Given key to our room which we discovered hadn't been serviced. Called reception, said they would send someone. Waited 30mins then had to go down to reception. Check in is supposed to be from 4 but only got access to an inferior room at 5.10. Never happened before at any hotel. Decided to cancel breakfast - too expensive and didn't like to give this hotel any more money. Had we not been booked with friends we would have left. No compensation though I did ask to have parking fee cancelled given the fiasco on arrival and that was agreed but NOTHING OFFERED. It was a very hot weekend and the room on the 2nd floor was very stuffy. Would not stay here again however quirky and historical it looks.

Quirky and the old part is beautifully mock Elizabethan. Modern part uninteresting. We stayed in one of the old rooms that had a sloping floor you could have roller-coasted on. Great for taking a reluctant partner who is forced to roll down on the bed onto you! Clean and pleasant though a bit pricy.

This review is long overdue! Staying at the Feathers, dining, drinking and seeing and learning about the history of the hotel and the surrounding area was a truly memorable experience! Grace, Kelly, Lou and Glyn are the best! I hope to see you all again in the future!

Stayed here for a birthday treat and was lucky enough to be upgraded to a junior suite. Great place just oozing history - first becoming an inn in 1670. Lovely rooms and excellent food. We had dinner in the restaurant and really enjoyed it. My husband had lamb which he said was excellent and my Stilton parcel was delicious.

Hotel itself is lovely with character. Parking poorly sign posted and hard to find. On check in there was no one there so someone came from the bar to check in but the whole process was not smooth and quite unwelcoming. Dinner in the restaurant was a bit of a disaster. Heritage tomato stuffed with lentils and cheese turned out to be a very overpriced tasteless tomato on a bed of green beans. I ordered a side of veg which when they came didn’t even have the same vegetables in as described so I sent them back. They were just sat in a watery bath and absolutely tasteless. Very overpriced. Staff took 20 minutes to take my order and apart from one girl who was very good the rest just stood about talking. Breakfast staff very good and breakfast nice. Overall for how expensive it was I was disappointed. It felt like the staff let it down. I’ve stayed in similar coaching inns before at similar prices and felt much more welcome and like it was worth the extra money

Really nice hotel, beautiful old building. lots of attention to details like coffee pod machine in room, complimentary bottles of water etc. Was going to give 5 stars but was stitch up for service charge in the restaurant. Was told by reception that we didn't need to book dinner, so we came down at 6pm wanting to eat at 7pm to be told by the waiter that the restaurant was busy and they will try and fit us in. After drinks we came back at 7 and we were squeezed in to a half full restaurant. We then sat with our menus in front of us for 20min waiting to order, the staff only realised we were there when a waiter brought someone elses food to our table, I pointed out that we were still waiting to order. The rest of the meal went fine, great food, nice wine, bit pricey. I woke in the night and it occured that our restaurant bill was high, when I checked the recipt in the morning I found we'd been stitched up for a 10% service charge. This infuriates me, where else are you expected to pay extra for someone to do their job. Of course there's the get out clause "ask to have it removed" on the recipt, but I'm sure they rely on most people not noticing until too late or too embarassed to ask. I feel cheated and will not be returning.

We had booked a late lunch table on May Fest Sunday, we were seated quickly by the very polite staff. The choice on the Sunday specific menu was good, and the cost reasonable for the quality. Portion sizes on the starters and mains were good, the mains accompanied by a lovely large bowl of perfectly cooked vegetables. The roast beef was a dream. Perfectly cooked, delightfully tender, and an exquisite taste. The roast pork did not disappoint either. Too full for dessert, we looked on enviously as desserts passed by destined for other tables and the cheese selection enjoyed by a neighbouring table appeared very generous. If you want good quality Sunday lunch in smart but unpretentious surroundings in Ludlow, you should certainly consider eating here. Well done, we hope to be back soon!

Although the this building is iconic and absolutely beautiful, the room we had was a real let down. The modern design was not in keeping with this historic building and we found it bland and commonplace. Avoid the rooms in the back of the hotel - unfortunately we stayed a modern, charmless block overlooking the car-park and bins, room 143, at the end of a very long corridor and accompanied by the sound of the kitchen extractor fans. Considering the amount charged per night, to say we were underwhelmed is a huge understatement. The room is at best adequate for the price and we were both bitterly disappointed - if we wanted to stay in a Premier Inn, we would have made the appropriate arrangements and it is a shame that Crest Hotels decided to refurbish the main interiors in this lacklustre style. The public rooms downstairs, including the restaurant, are similarly disappointing, although the first floor function rooms (the three windows you see in the middle layer at the front) are absolutely stunning with ornate Jacobean plastered ceilings and fireplaces and a palpable sense of history, but they are empty with stacked chairs and not furnished for sitting in. Take lots of photos of the outside but don't bother to stay here.

Lovely character hotel in Ludlow. Parking available but its a bit of a squeeze in the car park. Our room was quite close to a pub with music playing outside in the evening but the windows did a good job keeping the room quiet. Heating in the communal areas was insane - b it we weren’t there for long
