The Metropole is an old style hotel with good facilities and comfortable accommodation. The food is good and the service is excellent. Slightly shabby in places, but this doesn't detract from the charm of the place.

We booked the metropole for our wedding evening party. Everything was perfect from start to finish. The buffet was just out of this world that all our guests stated it was the best buffet they'd ever had, massive compliments to the chefs. The communication between Lauren and I from the first email to the last was prompt and professional and she went above snd beyond to cater to all my needs. The staff there were polite friendly and efficient. The bridal suite was lovely and complimentary with the booking and the breakfast the following morning was second to none with quality produce and cooked perfectly, very tasty and plentiful. I would highly recommend this place without a doubt x

It looks nice from outside but within the bedrooms are in deep need of a refresh of their decoration, odd little things that just really date it. As a wheelchair user I was given a ‘disabled’ room which was oddly, the first hotel bedroom I’ve had with two bathrooms and a tiny study area. I don’t mind the two bathrooms, I do mind the two single beds, I’d much rather have had a double bed. The single beds were on wheels that weren’t locked off so every time I went to sit down the bed slid away from me, causing a near accident every time. Dinner was ok, very much a menu to cater for a lot of tables, a lot of coach party guests, so everything was pretty much false teeth friendly. But it was ok, I have no complaints on that score. Breakfast was more of a disappointment. The cereal was in one place and the fruit and yoghurt elsewhere. Very little choice of cereal. The pastries looked nice but were finished by the time I went to get one. The whole place smells like baked beans. I didn’t try the hot food, being vegetarian and not a fan of baked beans. One thing to note, staff have been very friendly and helpful. Mind you nobody seemed to want to help when I was scooting backwards with a hot coffee in my only hand. All in all a reasonable experience. Could have been a lot worse, but could have been better too

Once upon a time this must have been a grand hotel..... However, a long weekend at the Hotel Metropole left me and my brother rather deflated. Why?? Well, the furnishings throughout the hotel are antiquated...plus dusty plastic flowers...and the furniture in our suite was scratched, more than "well used" and also broken, for example most of the handles on the drawers were broken off. In the bathroom, the wash basin was well and truly cracked by something heavy that had fallen onto the surface at some point of time. The carpets had definitely seen better days. Now we come to the food. Evening meal on day 1 + 2 was very good and more in line with a 4 star hotel, but sadly on day 3 it was pretty much a big disappointment and my "salmon en croute" did not win any prizes for optics or taste...a lot of it remained on the plate despite hunger. Breakfast for those who like English Breakfast is good, but if, like me, you prefer continental breakfast, you won't be overwhelmed by choice (no cheese, no sliced meats, no honey etc etc...and if you want a boiled egg, then you have to ask for it), though the bread rolls were good. The staff were friendly and attentive but that I am afraid, did not make up for the so-called 4 star experience....this hotel is more 3 star and that's what you get! Don't expect luxury

Stayed 1 night in June 25 Good - large free car park easy to find at the rear, easy fast check in at reception, clean room including clean bathroom, good location on main road Bad - some furniture in room chipped and worn, room in general felt dated and tired, breakfast does not start until 7:30am which is no good for my circumstances

We stayed here for our silver wedding anniversary, we checked into our room which was in desperate need of updating but we didn’t want to let it spoil our anniversary and as our daughter had phoned and had wine put in our room we went with it. We then went down to the spa which we enjoyed apart from one of the grids was missing from the filters and my heel got caught in there causing some skin missing!! The 1st time we used our toilet it was completely blocked forcing us to use the public toilet downstairs as we felt it was a health risk but it just seemed to be run of the mill when we reported it! The most annoying part is I emailed the manager over three weeks ago now stressing my complaint and unfortunately we still haven’t received a reply!!! When you pay £195 a night for bed and breakfast you expect much better than what we had.

I joined a coach trip from the Sussex coast spending 4 nights at the hotel. My single room on second floor accessed by 2 lifts was clean and had everything I needed, albeit dated. Meals in the dining room were very good, varied and plentiful. The ground floor is large with plenty of seating areas, a nice bar and terrace. All the staff were lovely, helpful and friendly. This is a Victorian hotel and as such has history and character which I loved.

The hotel is clean, very dated rooms with a useless shower. No value at £180 night. Breakfast was just ok. Worst coffee ever. The public areas are quite nice, bar is quite expensive. Plenty of room for parking, out the the rear of the hotel. You could film a period drama here.
