"The location and views are superb, and the staff provide top-notch service. The breakfast buffet offers excellent quality food, and the hot springs are clean and feature a semi-open-air bath. Overall, this Japanese-style hotel offers extremely high value for money. They even include a hot spring hopping pass for the surrounding public baths, have a wide selection of beautiful kimonos to choose from, and proactively offer shuttle service to and from the JR station. The room views are simply unbeatable. There are countless advantages, I highly recommend it!"

"This riverside hotel offers ample parking. The rooms are very spacious, and the lobby provides complimentary coffee and alcoholic beverages. There are both indoor and outdoor hot springs, with a full range of bathing amenities. The buffet breakfast and dinner offer a wide variety of options, and the dinner, especially the seafood, was of a slightly higher quality, though the breakfast felt a bit perfunctory. Guests can enjoy free access to the Kinosaki public bathhouse, and the hotel provides complimentary baskets, yukata robes, wooden clogs, and umbrellas. The service was warm and attentive; I was very satisfied."

"The hotel has a wonderful vibe. The location is great, the service is lovely, and the dinner was yummy. The extra little gift was a really nice surprise that made the stay memorable. I really liked the free drinks and snacks on the 3rd floor - it was a super chill spot. I'll be telling my friends about this place, and I can't wait to come back with my family. I'm super appreciative of the fantastic experience."

"This was the best place we stayed at by far! The staff were incredibly welcoming, making it a truly unique experience for tourists. They even picked us up from the train station in a shuttle bus and took us directly to the hotel. They provided us with yukata robes and explained everything thoroughly (the staff spoke excellent English). Although you can wear your own clothes, the overall atmosphere really encourages you to change into the yukata and immerse yourself in the Japanese spirit. The room itself was beautiful, decorated in a traditional Japanese style, as were the hallways, which featured small wooden statues and calligraphic scrolls. Soft music played subtly in the corridors, and a pleasant, non-intrusive incense aroma filled the air. It was absolutely delightful! And finally, the food: we opted for both dinner and breakfast, and the spread was incredible! Everything was delicious and beautifully presented, with generous portions – anyone would be satisfied. They even served delicacies like snow crab and premium meats. We definitely hope to come back here again!"

"The accommodation is right next to the train station, making travel super convenient – I loved it! I really enjoyed that the hotel offered foot baths and provided yukata and toiletries for the onsen. They also let us store our luggage. The room was beautifully Japanese-style! All the amenities in the room were easy to use, and there was a fridge with drinking water, which I really appreciated. However, on that particular day, since I was traveling soon, I had a large suitcase with me. Unfortunately, there was no elevator, so I had to carry my heavy luggage up to the third floor myself. It was incredibly tiring, but fun overall! 💖"

"Upon arrival, the hotel gave us 2 free tickets for aquarium next to the hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful with parking valet and our luggage. The room we were in had an amazing view and it is spacious. It’s a Japanese style room and the staff had to come to put out futon for us around dinner time. Communal bath is big with an outdoor onsen. We noticed that they use salt water in the bath and onsen instead of chlorinated water like many other onsen hotel we have stayed in the past. There are 2 restaurants in the hotel but they open rather late at 7 and 8 pm so we didn’t get to try them. Breakfast were the same the whole we stay but they are pretty decent so there is no complaints. I would consider this to be one of the best hotel we have stayed during our trip there."

"The location is convenient, with parking available, though not directly near the hotel. It's very close to the main street. The hotel is a bit dated, but it offers a unique perspective on the Japanese-style atmosphere. The hotel employs many Nepalese domestic workers, which facilitates English communication, but this also diminishes the Japanese atmosphere. The food is just okay."

Outstanding
GGuest UserNice, modern and new hotel in Kinosaki onsen with great hospitality from the hotel owner and his staff. I was welcomed by the owner at the door when I arrived, and they even prepared a beautiful greeting card on my arrival. Welcome drink was provided and the owner recommended good restaurants and provided the USP of each onsen in Kinosaki. The room is spacious, clean and new! I especially like the Japanese style of the hotel. Yutaka and 1-day onsen pass were provided for my stay. As the next day I had to move to another hotel, the owner very kindly helped me to transport my luggage to another hotel near the JR station. Overall, excellent stay, excellent people and excellent breakfast! :) Would love to visit Kinosaki onsen again and stay with Utsuroi Tsuchiya.

GGuest UserWe had an unforgettable stay at Matsuya in Kinosaki. From start to finish, everything was exceptional. The service was truly some of the best I’ve ever experienced—warm, attentive, and genuinely thoughtful. A special shoutout to Cho, a new team member from Vietnam who is studying Japanese. She was incredibly kind and made our stay even more memorable. Our room was spotless, beautifully appointed, and offered such a cool and authentic traditional Japanese experience. The kaiseki dinner was incredible—relaxing, beautifully presented, and absolutely delicious. We had an early train and couldn’t stay for breakfast, but based on dinner alone, I’m sure it would have been amazing. At check-in, we were given yukatas and traditional sandals to wear around town, which made the whole visit even more special. The onsens were wonderfully relaxing, and the town itself was friendly, charming, and exactly what we hoped for. I highly recommend staying at Matsuya if you want to experience the absolute best of Japanese hospitality, culture, and relaxation. Truly a highlight of our trip. We are a LGBTQ+ traveling couple and felt very welcomed.

GGuest UserGeneral impression: This is a super decent house with an excellent view of the kinosaki village. You could feel the management put lots of efforts to maintain the best comfort of every guest and the whole team operated under warm & effective process. While we are having breakfast or dinner in the dining area, their staff make a very efficient turn to change our yukata, towels, bottles of water, making up mattress on our room. That impressed us so much! Onsen quality: The onsen inside the house is well managed and run until mid night. We can go outside with the free pass of public onsens, but we also enjoy ourselves in the in-house onsen because of more accessories provided there. You can feel the onsen owner care about guests more than the public onsens outside. Dining experience: We enjoyed the half board experience for 2 nights, especially the 2nd night with the tajima beef sukiyaki. The flavors & taste feed us well. Though breakfast is a bit simple, but we could make up some room in our stomach to enjoy snacks or ice-cream in the village. My friend & I would definitely give 5 star rating to Yamamotoya, and will recommend our friends to visit you again.

GGuest UserI had low expectations for this trip and was pleasantly surprised! Firstly, the town itself is so beautiful and cozy, you can take your time and just enjoy it! Secondly, the hotel is top-notch! The service and politeness of the staff are amazing, and the hotel's interior and courtyard are beautiful! The onsen at the hotel is stunningly beautiful, with everything thought out to the smallest detail! The rooms are very authentic, as is everything else, and the breakfast buffet is amazing! The transfer service was also well thought out, and of course, the yukata is simply wonderful and fits every size! I can go on and on about how much I enjoyed it! Thank you!

DDmitrii_Kornet7This hotel is wonderfully located in a quiet and secluded spot. The staff are friendly and helpful with everything. We had a room with a garden view, a waterfall, and direct access to the garden. Special thanks for that! Regarding the food: If you choose breakfast and dinner, note that dinner service is 2 hours long, and breakfast is 1 hour. Keep this in mind when planning your day. The meals are served in classic Japanese style at the hotel restaurant. Food is served in courses, and everything is fresh and delicious. There's a lot of food – in fact, it was almost too much for me. Dinner, especially, offers an enormous amount of food: fish, crab, appetizers, and so on. The hotel staff, particularly Kunvar Niruta from Nepal, assisted us with everything, including explaining how to properly eat the various dishes. For the onsens: there are private baths with fruits and flowers, which can be booked once a day for 40 minutes. There are also other private baths with unlimited usage time, and public baths available. The hotel also provides a shuttle bus to the station. Everything about the hotel is good: it's beautiful, cozy, interesting, and authentic. The only minor inconvenience was the short faucet in the bathroom sink, which was quite awkward. Otherwise, everything was excellent.

DDaria GrWe stayed at the hotel in October 2024. We took two rooms for two. Pros: 1. Magnificent rooms in the style of a classic ryokan: everything is very beautiful, authentic, lots of small details, notes and tips for guests, interesting trinkets in the room. We had beds, not futons, but this is not a minus - the beds are very comfortable. The view from the room (3rd floor) is of the mountains. The cleanliness is perfect, the room has everything that should be in a classic ryokan room: from tatami to a low table for relaxing. 2. Incomparable kaiseki dinner. Excellent sukiyaki breakfast (you cook it yourself). 3. The most beautiful interiors of the hotel, it is interesting to walk around it, exploring it from the inside. The hotel is beautiful from the outside too. 4. You can smoke in the rooms (we did not do this, and the rooms are not smoked at all). There is a smoking room at the entrance to the hotel. 5. Wonderful staff. All requests and complaints are satisfied within minutes. They speak English poorly, but it's not a problem, we communicated through a translator. The guys are cool, cheerful. Quick check-in, a bunch of reminders about where and when to come / what and how to do correctly. 6. There is a private onsen (we did not use it). 7. They give a free pass to 7 public onsen. They give discounts on souvenirs. 8. They give excellent yukatas for onsen, for women - they will give beautiful ones, the choice is huge. Nuances: 1. The only downside of the hotel is the distance from the center of Kinosaki (15-20 minutes walk through not very beautiful places). But! There is a free transfer from the hotel to the city center, plus there is a transfer station-hotel-station. And the walk from the hotel to the center of Kinosaki did not bother us much. 2. This is not a business hotel, so there is no washing machine, iron or shower in the room. The shower (and in fact - onsen) is shared on the minus first floor - separate for men and women.

GGuest UserEnjoyed our stay and experiencing our first onsen and kaiseki! They provided us with yukatas and passes to access the public baths, also had 3 private onsens on site. Friendly staff, lots of food included in the dinner and breakfast which they serve in your room and set up/pack up your bedding, with option for continental breakfast on our 2nd day instead of japanese style. Quiet, clean and futon bed was surprisingly comfortable. It’s about 8min walk from the train station which was fine for us but there’s a bus shuttle option right outside the station, and the hotel also offer bag drop off for a small fee when you leave so you don’t need to carry them. It’s close to the ropeway that you can ride up for nice views. Also right near the best public onsen in our opinion. (Be sure to check the onsen hours we missed out on one and note 2 are currently closed for renovations). A few things worth noting - breakfast is served early, you can pick 8 or 8.30am. If you are sensitive to light, it’s not completely dark when sleeping, sun comes through the windows as it has the traditional paper screen style. Also there in not a shower in your room, you need to use the onsen showers (either the private ones on site which you can’t book so can’t guarantee availability but both times we wanted to use them we were able to, or at the public onsens.) Overall we would recommend staying here to treat yourself to some peaceful rest and relaxation.

SShadoWofAlex357A good ryokan. The room was large and comfortable, and the staff were polite. Even though the hotel is very old (you can feel it in places), it's very clean and cozy. The koi on the terrace are a bit of a mixed bag: The koi are beautiful, but they look scared and have very little space. I didn't get any aesthetic pleasure from them – I was more worried. Pros: - Amazing service - Very atmospheric room - Fantastic kaiseki dinner - Good breakfast - A pass is provided for all local onsens (you'll need to pay a symbolic 400 yen per visit to the onsens, but there are no restrictions on how many onsens you can visit, and you can even visit them for a couple of hours after check-out). Cons: - No smoking in the room or on the room's terrace (this is probably because their Gonzaemon hotel, where you *could* smoke, burned down nearby). - The air conditioner only heats the main room; the other rooms (hallway, bathroom, toilet) are very cold. - The hot tub is very small (it's photographed in a way that makes it look bigger). - The convenience store (combini) is very far away. - There are shared hot springs and a private bath in the adjacent building (you need to book in advance, and the last entry is at 11 PM). - The yukatas are rather simple compared to other local ryokans.

KKangfushishuijing- LeonaThe location is superb, nestled in an alley next to Jizo-yu (a traditional Japanese bath), quiet and away from the main street, so there's no noise from passing cars or the clatter of wooden clogs. Check-in is at 4 PM. Arriving early might mean no one's there; just leave your luggage at the door and wander around. There are security cameras everywhere, so it's very safe. Rooms vary in size; your assigned room is entirely based on luck. But rest assured, each room has its own unique character, very Japanese, with fragrant tatami mats and thoughtful touches. For one night's stay, each person receives two bath passes, so plan accordingly: one in the afternoon, one in the guesthouse's private bath in the evening, and one in the public bath at 7 AM the next day, then you can leave. The meals were surprisingly delicious, all Japanese home-style dishes. We were lucky enough to get snow crab, which we loved. The only inconvenience was communication. None of the staff at this family-run guesthouse spoke English, and even translation software wasn't accurate. Basically, they spoke their Japanese, I spoke my English, and my friend spoke Chinese—a three-way conversation! However, the owners were very welcoming.
