Cork Factory Hotel

Historic, unique hotel restored from a previous cork factory. Still had many characteristics of when it was a factory. Large windows,brick walls and ceilings of pipes and industrial metal. We loved the character and ambience. Recommend for hotel. Only disappointment was that the restaurant and bar were closed. We read they had a great restaurant but were not told it was not open when we booked on phone with the hotel directly. Breakfast was coffee in the lobby with the only food being paid vending machines . Most hotels have at least bakery items, or bagels for their guests.

Unsafe for Seniors Beds consist of firm mattress placed on oversized, tall platforms with no toe kicks. The platforms are several inches smaller than the mattress and have solid side walls down to the floor that had no space underneath for your foot; I kept kicking the wall and tripping when attempting to get into the bed. The platform was so high that my short wife had to jump up onto the mattress. Good for the cleaning staff’s backs when making up the beds, but difficult to get in/out of. The bathrooms are equipped with tall, wide soaking tubs with glass walls and a narrow swinging door on L-Shaped Sill that make sitting on the edge of of tub, to swing your legs over the tub wall to enter the tub/shower impossible. The combined tub wall sill is so high that stepping over it is difficult and with no grab bars, the wide tub/shower dangerously conducive for falls. The plastic credit card key locks often failed and we to reprogram them several times, which as the front desk was frequently unstaffed and the telephone never answered live (they call back), quite a pain. The front door is locked at night, so heaven help you if that’s when your key entry card fails. The staff is quite aware of this problem as they warned us to keep card away from cell phones. While quaint, the converted factory with wooden structure, consequently has lots of heavy steel fire doors, narrow tread stairwells with inadequate handrails difficult to grip, that make the entire hotel unsuitable for the patron who has walking difficulties.

Parking was a bit confusing and seemed limited with the “No Hotel Parking Signs”. The front desk staff said we could park in those spots after business hours. I was worried I would get towed.

My only issue was with the room. It was a huge bathroom but no vanity, just a small sink that did not even hold a toothbrush. There was a small table behind the sink but make no sense why such a small sink. The only chair in the room was wooden desk chair. I have traveled a lot and first time there was not a comfy chair.

It’s a beautiful old factory converted to a hotel. The room was clean, the mattress was very comfortable and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was the first night of our stay the air conditioning stopped working and it was 76 degrees and stuffy in our room when we woke up. They got someone on it right away and when we came back to the hotel later that day it was working fine.

Refurbished historical industrial buildings. Very unique and very well done. Good size rooms. Pleasant and helpful staff. Restaurant was closed the day I was there so I cannot comment on it but it looked good. The only thing that could use a little improvement is the morning coffee bar. Perhaps a wider selection would have been nice, I.e. decaf/regular/whole milk as well as half and half. I would definitely stay there again next time I'm in Lancaster.
