Cariboo Log Guest House

Guests appreciate the clean, updated rooms and friendly host. Convenient location near the lake and spacious, comfortable beds. Excellent, fresh breakfast is highly praised. Ample parking available.

We stayed in a standard king room at the Cariboo Log Guest House in Lac la Hache for 1-night in mid-Jul ($164). The log building sprawls across the top of a huge meadow facing Lac La Hache (the lake, not the town) across busy Hwy 97. Entry is into an area that serves as the office, dining room and sitting area, all clean and fastidiously maintained. Its sense of lightness and space, lacking in many log buildings, was enhanced by the many windows onto the deck and by the cheerful welcome from the owner. The rooms, off a walkway along the building's front, all had lake views. Entered through a sliding glass door, our clean, modern room had a comfortable king bed with side tables, desk, a chest of drawers, chair, all stylish and in impeccable condition - seriously, there was not a scuff to be seen anywhere in the room. There was a mini-refrigerator, coffee maker, and a small wall-mounted TV. The bathroom had plenty of space by the vanity. Although there was no AC, the log construction kept the room cool. There was some traffic noise, but it was only noticeable when watching TV with the door open. The included breakfast was excellent, with choice of eggs and sausages ordered the night before, complemented by fruit, toast, coffee, juice, nuts, etc. I have travelled through the central Cariboo for years and have always found it difficult to find accommodation that had that little something extra to make it special. The Cariboo Log Guest House has that special something, making it a superb choice for accommodation between Cache Creek and Prince George. It provided great value for the price.

This is a bit of a hidden gem. Julia works very hard to accommodate her guests. The log construction facility is quite neat and the setting over looking the lake is beautiful. The rooms are very well equipped and the bed very comfy. Was a quick one night stay (in late - gone early) but would definitely stay again and recommend for anyone looking to stay out of big centres. Very relaxing vibe.
