Kunming is a city that simply feels good.
Nestled at an altitude of about 1900 meters, its climate is like spring year-round, earning it the nickname ”Spring City.” Even in late May, with bright sunshine during the day and a gentle breeze in the mornings and evenings, strolling through the streets is incredibly pleasant.
If it's your first time in Kunming, one of my top recommendations is Cuihu Park (Green Lake Park).
Cuihu isn't huge, but its water is crystal clear, and it's shaded by lush trees. Walking along the lake, you'll see elderly folks exercising, locals singing and dancing, and people simply lounging in the sun. There's no entrance fee, making it perfect for a leisurely stroll to soak in the Kunming way of life.
However, it's worth noting that many visitors come for the seagulls. In fact, from around November to March each year, red-billed gulls from Siberia flock to Kunming for the winter. By May, they've already begun their journey back north, so you're unlikely to see any seagulls at Cuihu. If seeing the gulls is your main goal, I'd suggest visiting in winter.
Even without the gulls, Cuihu is still well worth a visit.
The blooming flowers along the lake, the quaint pavilions and ancient structures, and the rich cultural atmosphere all add to its charm. Especially in the evening, with the sunset reflecting on the lake and a gentle breeze, it takes on a truly unique and beautiful ambiance.
For travel planning, I recommend combining Cuihu Park and Yunnan University into one day. These three attractions are very close to each other and easily reachable on foot. Start your morning at Cuihu, enjoy some Yunnan rice noodles or 'steam pot chicken' for lunch, then spend the afternoon visiting the Yunnan Military Academy and Yunnan University. It's a perfect day trip.
If you have more time, you could also head to Nanqiang Street or Dounan Flower Market in the evening. Dounan Flower Market, in particular, is one of Asia's largest flower trading markets, and the incredibly affordable prices of various flowers are a pleasant surprise, making it definitely worth seeing.
Kunming might not boast breathtaking grand landscapes, but it possesses a special charm. The sky is incredibly blue here, there are abundant flowers, and life moves at a leisurely pace. It doesn't feel like a tourist city eager to show off; instead, it's more like a gentle old friend, quietly accompanying you on walks, for tea, and soaking up the sun.
And this comfort, more often than not, is far more memorable than any grand spectacle.

The hotel's location is super convenient, really close to Cuihu Lake and the Military Academy – just a short taxi ride away. Plus, there are plenty of restaurants right downstairs, which is great for meals. I asked for a quiet room at check-in and they put me above the car park, so it was nice and quiet at night. I also thought the breakfast was excellent, with local Yunnan specialties like rice noodles and flower cakes.
I really enjoyed my stay here and it became one of my preferred places in Kunming.
The atmosphere is calm and comfortable. Staff were helpful and easy to communicate with. The room itself is spacious and practical, with a fridge, washing machine and balcony area which makes a big difference for longer stays.
Location is very convenient near shopping areas and transport links.
The bathroom is functional but slightly older, and cleaning is not daily, so that’s worth noting for longer stays. However, overall cleanliness was good.
If I were returning to Kunming, I would happily stay here again.

Fantastic experience and exceptional service!
Our first stay in China couldn’t have been better. We were incredibly fortunate to receive a complimentary upgrade to a suite. The room was exceptionally clean, massive, and featured two bathrooms and a very comfortable bed. There was plenty of living space. What impressed us the most was the outstanding service from the staff. Although they didn't speak much English, they went above and beyond to help us. Highly recommended!
The environment is absolutely fantastic—very clean and comfortable. The service is exceptional! They even have a gym. I forgot some clothes in the laundry room, and the staff kindly dried and folded them for me. I also mentioned to the front desk lady the day before that I wouldn't have time for breakfast in the morning, and she had it packed up for me to take on the go. The service is incredibly thoughtful!
Kunming is a beautiful city, and the Senyue Hotel boasts a prime location, close to both the subway and bus stations, making getting around super convenient. The front desk and housekeeping staff are all very friendly and eager to help with any issues. The rooms are well-equipped, offering great value for money and an affordable stay.

My stay here exceeded expectations! The hotel's location is excellent, just a 5-minute walk to the subway station, with plenty of restaurants and convenience stores nearby. In the evenings, it's lovely to take a stroll and enjoy the city nightscape – super convenient.
The front desk staff were professional and efficient, even offering a complimentary room upgrade during check-in. The bathroom's wet/dry separation was well-designed, and the water pressure was great. The toiletries were also high quality.
The breakfast selection was extensive.
Check-out was quick and easy, and the front desk even asked for my feedback, showing how much the hotel values guest opinions. It's excellent value for money, and I'd definitely choose to stay here again the next time I visit this city!

The facilities are complete, the stay was comfortable, and it was clean. The staff were warm and attentive. Although the room was near the road, it wasn't noisy at night. There are many delicious and affordable food options nearby. The walk from Baiyun Station on Metro Line 2 to the hotel is a bit far, but walking through the underground mall was cool and kept me out of the sun.

Facilities: This is a Shangri-La Group express hotel, boasting a stylish and modern design. It shares the same building with the main Shangri-La hotel, so guests have access to their gym and swimming pool. The brand-new amenities make for a very comfortable stay.
Location: It's conveniently located near the Parc 66 shopping mall area, and the Tuodong Sports Center Metro Station (Line 3) is right outside, making travel easy.
Service: The hotel's Kaitang Cafe offers an excellent breakfast with a wide variety of high-quality dishes, including local specialties and outstanding bakery items. The restaurant staff are very friendly and helpful. The fitness center also provides fantastic service; they even offer complimentary coffee after your workout.
I'd also like to thank the front desk staff, ISABEL, LOUIS, and HALINA, for their excellent service during my stay.
After a long search, I finally decided on C'est la vie, and it truly was fantastic once I entered the room.
**Location**: It's about twenty minutes from Kunming Railway Station, not far at all. There are two shopping centers and a popular photo spot nearby. I arrived quite late, and the front desk recommended a night market across the street to explore.
**Cleanliness**: Both the hallway and the room were very clean.
**Room Size**: The room was very spacious, and the bathroom had a separate wet and dry area.
**Bed**: It came with both high and low pillows, and the bedding was super comfortable; I just wanted to lie down and sleep.
**Soundproofing**: The room was on the eighth floor, and the windows were soundproofed, making it very quiet.
I was very satisfied with the room, and the front desk lady was incredibly enthusiastic with excellent service.

The environment is very good, the sanitation is also very clean, the accommodation is convenient The service attitude is very good and there are disposable towels, and the care is very thoughtful
1. The hotel is newly opened and very new. The rooms didn't have any new renovation smell, which shows the housekeeping staff put in a lot of effort! The pillows were meticulously chosen, and I also want to give a thumbs up to the person who chose the kettle!
2. The breakfast was also very good. I especially liked the wooden floors in the restaurant; the color was very comfortable, and even the room key cards were made of wood.
3. Juno and Xiao Jin at the front desk genuinely put themselves in the customers' shoes and were very considerate!
4. The washing machine worked very well. I could check its status on the TV and my phone, and I received a notification when it was finished.
I really think this is the most cost-effective hotel I stayed in Kunming. The room is very clean. The bathroom is well separated into wet and dry areas. It is also very clean and has no odor. There are disposable toilet covers. It is about 1 km walk from the subway station. Anyway, there is nothing else to say. This price is really suitable for college students like us to stay
The front desk staff were super friendly and helpful. The room was clean, and the facilities were great. It's really convenient for getting around to nearby attractions. They even upgraded my room for free and went out of their way to help with parking. Breakfast was just okay, but it was enough to fill me up.
The location is excellent, the subway station downstairs is directly connected to the airport, the first choice for the transfer station for the transfer plane, the room is 50 square meters, very spacious, clean and tidy, the floor is high and the view is good, I want to go to Nanping Street and walk a few hundred meters.
I have to rave about this round table! The solid wood texture is amazing, it feels so smooth and substantial, not that cheap, laminated stuff. Paired with those bright orange chairs 🍊, it instantly livens up the whole room, and it's perfect for photos! There's also a long desk behind it, more than enough space for working or doing makeup, and the outlets are conveniently placed. Full marks for the details! 💯
Facilities: Well-equipped.
Hygiene: Clean and tidy. The service was excellent, and the front desk staff were always helpful, answering all our questions and solving any issues we had. This made our trip much more convenient and made us feel right at home.
