"We stayed overnight at the Fugen-In. The monastery is very stylishly decorated. The rooms are very simple but traditionally beautiful. The location in the heart of Koyasan is excellent; everything is within walking distance. The dinner and breakfast are vegetarian and very delicious. In the morning, you have the opportunity to participate in the morning ceremony. We highly recommend the Fugen-In."

"It was mostly a good experience for me but not without issue. But first of all, massive thanks to the staff who were so kind to drop me off once at the destination where I was late for and once for the pharmacy when grandpa was sick. The issue was the next day at 9am or earlier they were even hoovering and doing cleaning …… I’m really shocked. First of all, compared to the world 10am check out is very very early. But on top of that, it’s not even reached check out time and you’re doing cleaning? It was such a bad rest, when I had a long day of travel for me and the last thing you want is to be disturbed on your holiday. Not to mention that as we left the room; all the cleaning things were out such as people’s bedsheets and towels … it just looked messy and not nice. It is customary around the world for people to do cleaning a while after check out time when guests have already left or are having fun outside so we don’t have to be woken up or look at the mess outside. Another thing that kind of ruined my day is that because I lost my contact lenses, I had to use the cup in the bathroom. When I put the lenses back in my eye, it burned my eyes and therefore I couldn’t wear my contact lenses any longer. I had to take 5 or 6 trains, for about 8 hours. I ended up getting on the wrong train at least twice and lost. The issue was because the cup in the hotel must be disinfected maybe with some chemicals or something? It must be something very harsh to make me contact lens water burn my eyes like that. It could have been very dangerous. Even though the cups are of course not used for this purpose, but none the less it’s something we put in our mouth so it should not be washed with bleach or other harsh chemicals because it’s super unhealthy for the body. I feel so lucky and grateful that I didn’t drink from the cup or that my eye was not seriously burned but the effects kind of ruined my day. When I tried to tell the staff in the morning, he walked away from me so I wasn’t happy about that. All the other staff were exceptionally nice apart from one dropping me off at the wrong location for my tour. But he was such a nice guy and I’m so grateful so it’s no biggy but that also created problems for me because I ended up being late for my tour. In the end because of the eye issue, getting on the wrong train added me at least 2 extra hours on my trip today and lots of stress. On the positive side, the location is perfect and the food is yummy and they also let me take some breakfast to my sick grandad which is not customary. The room was lovely too. Thanks so much to the staff that took me to the pharmacy too."
