I'm giving this otherwise so-so hotel a "1" primarily because of their check-in policy. I arrived by boat from a wilderness location anxious to check into my room. It was 1:00 PM. I was told that my room was ready, but I would have to pay a $75 "early check-in" fee to occupy it before 3:00 PM. I was stunned. The room was ready, and my occupying it two hours before check-in would come at no cost or make a difference to the hotel. I travel considerably both domestically and internationally and have never encountered such a policy. The policy is just a clear effort to scalp guests. It's mean. It demonstrates a short-sighted, greedy disregard for customer satisfaction. I refuse to do business with a business that shows such avarice and disregard for its customers. The room itself was mediocre, especially for the $275/night I was charged for a single (I understand supply and demand and realize they can get that much for a basic room). The complementary breakfast was your standard bland and limited tasteless scrambled eggs with sausage. The restaurant staff was cordial and efficient.

The staff were generally very friendly. The young man who attended us at the front desk was friendly but knew nothing and couldn't solve any problems. We had reservations for two rooms, He told us that the reservations were not there, his solution was to try to give us a room with two beds for the four of us! And so on, two or three very bad details. The hotel, although the best in Kodiak, leaves much to be desired. It's old, poorly maintained, smells dirty, and is generally extremely neglected, from the furniture to the details of the building. Not at all recommended. Kodiak is incredible. It's a very beautiful place. The experience with the bears is wonderful. I recommend everything except the hotel. However, the people who work there are very friendly and attentive.

My room didn't have working A/C but I was never informed, and they would not let me change rooms. The ceiling fan/light used a strange controller that did not seem to work and there were no instructions for it. The bar and restaurant staff were excellent, but reception not so much. Location was good for me. Overall, way too expensive for what you got.

Kodiak is our home. We were born there. The KI uses to be tjw supreme place to stay. The room we were assigned was way at the end of the back building, which was hot at night, dispite a nice ceiling fan, opening the window helped. Customer service was great. When asked, cleaning staff were curtious and cleaned tje room for us. Definitely not a big city facility but okay.

Nothing special but accommodations were ok
With not to many options on Kodiak to stay, this was fine. Definitely outdated and could use some improvements for what how much they charge but it had the basics...clean, quiet, comfortable beds. Check-in was quick and you can walk to the liquor store and nearby restaurants (Henri's was very good) but otherwise...it is difficult to get around town without Uber and very limited taxi service. They have a restaurant onsite also that served a nice breakfast and dinner with a great view of the marina.

Overall the hotel was good for a short stay. The room was well worn, but was decently clean. Staff were nice. They charge $75 if you want to checkin before 230pm and the shuttle only runs to the airport for the Alaska Airlines flights. It is convenient to the harbor area. I would stay again if I were coming in to fish or fly out to another location the next day.

I liked the stream running through the middle of the hotel. It was very soothing. I enjoyed the hotub. I didnt like all the stairs.
