If you are considering Sultan Sands - book it and get your suitcases packed! We are currently staying here, 1 week in, with 1 week to go. It is a charming, traditional, rustic, low key resort - suitable for all travellers; families, couples, friends and solo guests - all are warmly welcomed here. There are activities to join in with, but in the main is fairly laid back and peaceful. I have dietary needs for medical reasons, and my gluten free requirements have not been a problem. I have found gluten free options for all meal times, but have been informed if there is anything I’d particularly like to speak to a server or chef and they will attempt to assist. I have not had to do this yet however, as I have found a good choice of quality fresh foods on offer. We booked our holiday via TUI and although they state long trousers for evening meals, however, nice tailored shorts are accepted at the hotel. On arrival we were met by Kevin and Mike, 2 managers at the hotel, and although we checked in slightly earlier due to our flight times we were invited to have breakfast and shortly after our room was ready for us. Kevin is the General Manager at the hotel and he regularly makes himself available, talking to guests and checking that everything is ok. He genuinely wants you to have a great holiday and takes on board any feedback you may have. We had a minor issue with our shower head, this was reported, checked shortly after and a decent replacement fitted within a couple of hours - all with minimal fuss or disruption. I am usually affected by mosquitoes and always travel with a plug for my room, deterrent spray for the evenings and bite remedies. I have not been bitten at all, the rooms are ‘turned down’ by maids of an evening, with the rooms sprayed, and a mosquito/insect net secured around your bed. There is a UK style plug socket in the room, we’ve brought a 4 gang extension with us, I have been able to power my Shark hairdryer and GHD straighteners with no problems at all. The air conditioning in your room is excellent too. The WiFi has been intermittent at times, but overall we’ve managed to get good coverage across the resort. There have been a couple of power cuts, but these literally last a few seconds and are no big deal. We purchased our visas and local government health insurance in the UK however this was also easily arranged on arrival at the airport. There is a hotel doctor if needed, who takes a walk around the hotel grounds approx 11am, he makes a point of saying hello to the guests and checking everything is ok. There are Maasai’s and other local sellers on the beach outside the resort, they like to walk and chat to travellers, and are really quite friendly. They do listen if you say no thank you, if you are concerned though the resort and neighbouring sister hotel have around 3 uniformed security guards on the beach, who can assist if needed. Although we had a long journey, you are made to feel very welcome right fro
