Property Description
Appearing on the National Register of Historic Places, the 15-story building features a limestone and brick exterior with terra cotta embellishments. Designed in the Gothic Revival style by the Kansas City architectural firm of Smith, Rea and Lovitt, construction of the Kansas City Club Building was started in 1918 and completed in 1922. The club was organized for the purpose of cultivating social and business associations among the leading business professionals in Kansas City. The club remained at this location in the heart of the downtown business district for approximately 80 years. The majority of the spaces represent their originality from the early 1900's where hand-hewn walnut, carved stone, stained glass, and gilded plaster were often used. These architectural wonders have been preserved and returned to their original glory for the benefit of all to ensure a unique and memorable occasion. The Hotel Kansas City is a premier destination that seamlessly combines the old-world charm of a historic social club with modern luxury and elegance. The 144 rooms including 5 suites will also have 2 restaurants for guests to enjoy local culinary traditions with elevated and modern renditions.

Really cool hotel and great value. Highly recommend. The Classic Lobby bar has a cool, classic vibe, and the room I had was clean, roomy, and classic but with modern details.

My daughter & I stayed here and walked an easy few blocks to a concert at T-Mobile Arena. Everything was wonderful from the staff to our room.

Good: beautiful hotel, especially the lobby. Smells amazing. Interesting bar in the basement. Location is great for downtown (very close to Tom’s Town Distillery, which is fabulous). Breakfast was awkward to order from the coffee bar, but the taste was great, so I’ll take the walk up ordering system. I was told that globalist breakfast includes a meal, coffee, and juice. The room was pretty, and we had no issues. They gave us 2 free drink tickets for the bar downstairs, so that was nice. Not great: we used a Guest of Honor award from Hyatt. I saw that standard suites were available, but I think that because I was just GOH/Explorist, they wouldn’t give me a suite. I could have brought it up, but I just didn’t want to go there, so it is what it is. Bad: they charged me for one night when I booked on a free night and points night that they combined into one reservation. I asked for the charges to be removed. The front desk person said she’d have to get a manager to do it later. I got an email from the manager with an apology, but my card has been charged 3 different times, and I’ve received 3 different receipts. I was charged for mini bar purchases that we for sure did NOT make. I was charged for part of breakfast. None of the charges have yet to be reversed. I of course will give them a few days to correct this, but after that, I’ll have to take it to Hyatt, I guess. The whole billing things (when I tried to fix it in person) has been a total headache.

Beautifully restored hotel with a great atmosphere. Only one person at the check-in desk with a long slow-moving line started things off poorly for us. But once in our room we were very happy with the quality of the room. They had put out some special treats since I let them know it was our 45th wedding anniversary. The hotel has a great location being within walking distance to any entertainment downtown. We walked to the Kaufman Center to see the ballet after a light dinner at Yard House. However, we were both very uncomfortable with the low-quality mattress that was too thin and hard. We expected something a bit more luxurious at this higher caliber hotel. We both had backaches in the morning.

Overall, our experience was pleasant. The hotel itself is lovely. The staff was quite nice. We had a great experience getting a drink in the lobby bar and the bartender who served us was awesome. It always amazes me, however, how it is that the higher-end the property, the fewer services a hotel tends to offer and how they try to extract more money from you. For example, the hotel wanted $45 a day for parking, when the lot next door was charging $15 (which we opted for). But the most disappointing experience was when we visited the Nighthawk bar in the basement of the hotel after our very nice dinner at The Town Company. My wife and I ordered cocktails from the posted menu. My choice was a $15 old fashioned. When I ordered it, the bar tender asked me if there was a particular bourbon I would like, which I thought was a nice touch. I made my choice but upon closing the tab, I saw that I was being charged double the posted price. When I inquired why, he informed me that the bourbon I selected (Jefferson's) was an upcharge. I was neither informed beforehand that there would be an upcharge, much less told how much it would be. (By the way, a bottle of Jeffersons costs about $60 max, so it is not a super premium whiskey and certainly should not cost an additional $15 per shot). In any case, I feel taken advantage of and intentionally mislead. Not the kind of experience I expected.
