The Westin Kansas City at Crown Center

We stayed at the Westin Crown Center and were very disappointed with the cleanliness of our room. When we checked in, we found several hairs in the bathtub and on the shower walls. It was obvious the bathroom hadn’t been properly cleaned before our arrival. My wife was upset that we didn’t have time to wait for housekeeping, so we had no choice but to shower in a dirty bathroom. As a Marriott Elite member and for a hotel of this caliber and price, this was completely unacceptable. The cleaning staff clearly missed basic sanitation standards, and it left a stark first impression on my wife who had never been here before. We expected much better from the Westin brand.

This hotel has everything you need: big rooms, exercise facilities, meeting rooms, catering, and a mall. It’s also within walking distance of most of the downtown attractions. The parking garage is huge, but some of the clearances are 6 feet 4 inches high. That’s a tight squeeze for a truck.

Enjoyable three night stay at Crown Center Westin as first time visitors to KC. The hotel itself is somewhat outdated, but the reception and lobby bar area are all renovated. Hotel is attached to the Mall which is a nice feature for dining and just general window-shopping. Our room was very spacious, clean, and quiet for sleeping with good aircon. We had a view overlooking the pool and striking war memorial tower. There was a quasi-balcony, which did not open to the outside, which was too bad. The pool is nothing fancy and needed to be cleaned, but still a pleasant spot to relax and take a dip. They really do try to cheer things up with beautiful flowers and decorative grasses, but there’s a lot of unattractive cement to detract from. TIP – There is a water refill station in the gym, which is near the pool. We used the paid self-parking which is attached to the hotel with easy access. Once you park and take a ticket, the hotel will replace the ticket with your room key for in and out privileges and it’s billed to your room-very convenient. For breakfast we went to Panera across the street and Starbucks in the Mall. We did go to the lounge at night a few times, which was bustling with conference attendees. Location is convenient for WWI Museum, Union Station and the “street car”. It’s about a 15 minute walk to Crossroads or oppositely to KC Wheel and Boulevard Brewing.

In town for a convention being held at Union Station. It was so convenient. The hotel is connected to Union Station via the Link. It was late September but humidity and thunderstorms abounded. It was nice to be able to walk in the air conditioning to Union Station. Staff were attentive and friendly. My room was on the 13th floor and quite spacious and well appointed. We were checking in Sunday afternoon at a particularly busy time but staff worked as quickly as they could. It's also connected to the Hallmark Crown Center - lots of food opportunities and shopping. The free light rail/trolley is also steps outside. This was a great location to explore Kansas City!
