The Monadnock Inn is historic and charming, located in Jaffrey, New Hampshire. Hosts are very friendly, helpful, and our room was very comfortable. We will definitely be back. The large veranda with rocking chairs is the perfect place to sit and enjoy an early morning coffee.

We stayed here in 2009 and were returning to the area again, was expecting a full bar and restaurant. Website said breakfast not being served, but nothing about no bar or restaurant. When we arrived nobody there, had to call a phone number. Looked around saw that the grass hadn't been mowed in a few weeks, paint peeling off the outside shingles, overgrowth hanging from the gutters...Carpets looked like they hadn't been cleaned since we were there in 2009. Totally changed. Yes, I was aware of their cancellation policy and being charged, however not having any person to person contact and the way the place looked and not having the restaurant and bar (which was not advertised in their website, only the breakfast notice) we decided to look elsewhere...a few days later my CC was charged for the full amount of the cancelled stay. So I don't recommend this once charming inn as a nice place to stay.

The name placard outside of this run-down dilapidated building should read "Bates Motel". My husband and I booked a room for a family event, upon arrival we both thought the GPS directions were pranking us. The paint was peeling, the grass was overgrown, the porch was filled with a variety of garage sale items. The parking lot was pitted and unsafe. We went inside and went to the "front desk", a table with an old curtain wrapped around it. The staff person was really untrained for accepting guests, and frankly he was a little, ok a lot creepy. He gave us a key and showed us to our room. The room, bathroom and chairs were not dirty, they were filthy. Fortunately, we were dressed for the event and not in need of a shower. During the car ride back we spoke as to whether or not we could actually sleep there. 9:30 at night, we were going to try. We met another couple outside who said they were in the same situation however their drive was 7 hours versus 2.5 for us. Walking back into the building we were met by terrible retching from a nearby room, and the staff person started following us around.......very uncomfortable. We decided to get our things and leave. We are grateful we did. I will be asking for a full refund and reporting this establishment to the consumer protection agency in New Hampshire. Something is definitely wrong with the Bates Motel.

I'm sorry to say that this Inn was a disappointment. It is in need of much renovation or at least cleaning and the rooms are beat up. Our room looked like no one had cleaned under the bed for months, litter and dust all over the floor under the bed, the bureau drawers of the old bureau hadn't been emptied out and I found an unused adult diaper in one drawer. The stairway rugs are dirty. I must have missed the section of the advertisement stating that they no longer do breakfast we had to make alternate plans for that. Just overall, the Inn is in need of some major TLC.

I feel sorry for the older proprietors since they have so many maintenance problems to contend with inside and outside. Apparently this was once a lovely b&b but no longer has food and barely any service. We had a check-in experience from hell due to no staff and a locked room. The room had no shades and was barely acceptable, apart from the renovated bathroom. I shall say no more.

This Inn is old, dirty and doesn't look anything like the pictures online. The back stairway, was covered in what the woman said was bird poo, looked like mice droppings. Nobody to help with bags we were on third floor, no breakfast or even continental breakfast, WAY overpriced. To boot, I came down with a skin rash after a couple of days only stayed one night, one night too long.

To call the Monadnock Inn a dump is an insult to dumps. Located in a lovely rural setting near Mt. Monadnock, this place appears to have been a stately bed and breakfast at one time, but that time was eons ago. Driving up, the total lack of maintenance was obvious, with peeling paint, loose shutters, weedy lawn, and stacks of pallets on the wraparound porch. No one was there to greet us. Instead, there was a hand-written note (the most personal attention we got the whole stay) that told us that our room was on the 3rd floor and that the bath across from it was our private bath. It appeared that we were the only guests in the whole place. The room was tiny and poorly appointed...a lumpy double bed that squeaked every time we moved, and almost no room to move around at all. Since we were the ONLY people there, you'd think they could have at least given us a larger room. The bathroom sink was just the right size for a kindergartner, and the faucet was so low, I couldn't fill a water glass for a drink. The good news: no bugs in the room...that we know of so far, that is. We would have turned around and walked away, but were leaving from Boston early the next day and were just too tired to continue on. Take it from my husband and me, you do NOT want to stay at the Monadnock Inn, not ever! I'm not a fan of cheap chain motels, but at least they have a human being at a desk to greet you and comfortable beds and decent bathrooms for their guests.

When I first pulled up, I was disappointed to see that the Inn had obviously seen better times. But once I walked in the front door, all trepidation quickly left as the historic ambiance of this 197 year old Inn overtook any negative feelings I may have had. This old dame has had its share of problems and still needs some tlc but the feel has not left her. Each room is unique & special and if you are looking for a true New England Inn experience, you have found one. There are no cookie cutter rooms here and the welcome with which this 1830 Inn embraces you will not disappoint. I enjoyed my lavender walls, comfortable bed and claw foot tub and will definitely be back!
