"The location is great, very close to Chinatown and the Manchester Art Gallery, making it convenient for dining. I stayed here in mid-December for my graduation ceremony. The exterior walls were under maintenance with scaffolding up. It was also right before Christmas, so prices were quite high. Last year, I came at the end of December, and the hotel was much cheaper, probably past its peak season. I forgot to take photos, but compared to the Midland where I stayed last time, the value for money is pretty good, and it includes breakfast, though it's quite basic."

"The location is a bit hidden, with no clear signs, and the name didn't match what I booked. I reserved a 4-person mixed dorm, which was clean and had an attached bathroom with a shower! There are plenty of places to eat and lots of bars nearby, but it can get quite noisy at night, so it might not be suitable for light sleepers. The front desk staff was a lovely lady who spoke English and Spanish. **Note: The hostel entrance is pictured in photo 1 – remember that!**"

"There is a direct bus to hotel from airport and a bus stop at 10 mins away from hotel back to airport. The walls have no stains which is nice and the bathroom is clean and tidy but the bed linen has quite a lot of stains. Some dust also appeared on the pillow and it is actually hard to spot them because of the dim lighting. The water pump is also working fine. The staff are super friendly when I forgot to bring a plug and realised that there is no USB charge spot."

"This was my third time in The Alan so they must be doing something right 😄 Was guest at Room 403 this time which was the handiest room to get to/from the elevator. Definitely can't be lost. Very spacious room with a bit of lounge area, free digestive biscuits, fresh water bottle and compact bath tub (yes, yes, yes!) which is perfect for short people. Window is a little high in this one and no floofy rug. My favourite things: the gazillions of plugs and the full length mirror. As usual, bring your own summer duvet if you're a cool sleeper and your battery tea light candles for a cosier bath tub experience. A cortado at the nearby Nero overlooking St Peter's Square is a must."

"I booked the windowless room because it was the cheapest option. This hotel truly has no views, so I figured a windowless room was actually better. However, if you're sensitive to ventilation issues, I recommend booking a room with a window. There's no air conditioning or refrigerator (which seems to be standard for mid-range hotels in the UK). No breakfast either. I noticed the name was similar to the Britannia Manchester Hotel nearby and wondered if they were the same company; it seems they are, as the amenities are identical and the furniture and lighting are similar. However, the bathroom here is a bit more modern, and it has a shower hose. Wi-Fi is free, I'm not sure why Trip.com states it's paid. You just need to log in with your email. I came to drop off my luggage before check-in, and since it was a weekday morning, they kindly gave me an early check-in for free, which I really appreciated. If you don't need air conditioning, this is the most recommended budget-friendly hotel in Manchester near Piccadilly Gardens."

"It was amazinggggg, from the design of the hotel inside to the people. The hotel looks amazing, the staff are really nice and the staff at reception are really sweet and welcoming. At first I was skeptical with booking this place on trip but doing it was literally a blessing in disguise. I am not getting paid for this at all so trust me when I saw this. It was amazing and the breakfast was really good, the rooms are amazing and aesthetically pleasing to be in, the towels are great!!! It was worth it for the price I paid and room I got. The spa was amazing as well!"

GGuest UserThe location of this property is excellent and was easily the highlight of our stay. Staff were friendly and helpful whenever we needed assistance, and the bathrooms were clean and well maintained. Unfortunately, there were a number of issues that affected our overall experience. The blackout blinds do not fully cover the windows, allowing daylight through the sides from very early in the morning, which made it difficult to sleep. We initially had to change rooms due to cleanliness concerns. In the first apartment, we found some soiled items in the bathroom bin and a heavily rusted tin opener. In the second apartment, there were unpleasant smells coming from the fridge and the cupboard under the sink, and while the tin opener was in better condition than the first, it also showed signs of rust. Some areas also appeared to have been missed during cleaning, including around the fridge hinge. The biggest disappointment was the comfort. The sofa beds were uncomfortable to sit on, with the cushions constantly sliding forward. The main bed was even more disappointing. It appeared to be two beds pushed together, was noisy whenever you moved, and provided one of the poorest nights’ sleep I’ve had in accommodation. By the end of our stay I was waking up with a sore, stiff back, which was particularly frustrating as this trip was supposed to be a break after several weeks of physically demanding decorating work at home. For a bed advertised as a large double, it also felt surprisingly short. We also experienced an issue with our room key after arranging a late checkout, which meant an unnecessary trip back to reception to have it reprogrammed. Noise from furniture being dragged around in the apartment above was noticeable during our stay as well. Overall, the apartment had the facilities we needed and the location is hard to fault, but the comfort, maintenance and attention to detail fell below expectations. While I appreciate the friendliness of the staff, I would think carefully before choosing to stay here again.

GGuest UserThe hotel itself was fine, aside from the lack of bottled water, luggage racks, and absolutely no toiletries – everything else was normal. However, their parking lot is a huge problem. Firstly, guests aren't told in advance that parking requires a reservation. Secondly, I'm not sure if their drop-off point is only for disabled people or what, but there's a 'no entry' sign at what looks like a drop-off entrance. Thirdly, even if you don't have a reservation and the car park is fully booked, the gate will still open. But if you don't pay 60 pounds, the car park attendant will make it difficult for you to leave, even if the hotel reception has already entered your license plate to give you 1 or 4 hours free and told you to move your car to an open-air car park about a 15-minute walk away. In the end, several guests were in the same situation, blocking the car park exit. The first guest had to go back to the hotel to grab a receptionist and bring them to the car park entrance to negotiate with the car park staff for half an hour before they finally opened the gate and let people leave.

GGuest Userno parking at this establishment and no dropping off available at times as their maintenance and delivery vans might take up the small space cut into the front pavement. They do provide you with a discount voucher at nearby public carparks. Rooms are clean but the decorating is a patch up job throughout. The noise from the tram it is horrible and through the night as windows are not soundproof. In our room the heating was out of order and oil filled radiators were put up instead. Television sets have either the option for TV channels or to connect to your phone: bad aerial prevented viewing most channels and TV only connected to the staff's androids and not to our iphones. There was no options for apps such as youtube or netflix and kids have to entertain themselves on their tablet. Swimming pool is the size of a private one in a residential home. Staff is courteous and the breakfast is way and beyond satisfactory. The majestic hall from their photos was nowhere to be seen. Would go again if no other options shall be available at the time.

GGuest UserAlthough there was a small problem with the system when checking in, the receptionist handled it extremely professionally, which made me appreciate it very much. The room is extremely clean, comfortable and has an extremely impressive view. The gym, swimming pool, food...all make everything more perfect. I will definitely introduce more friends and come back next time.

ZZj_mit• The hotel staff were extremely polite, kind, and very helpful. This meant a lot to me. • The overall atmosphere and location of the hotel are good. The room was generally clean, the bed was clean, and the room was spacious. • However, there were several issues that would make me reconsider staying here again for a longer visit: - The electric kettle had visible dust and did not seem properly cleaned, so I didn’t use it. - The hairdryer was not clean. - The white accessibility support rail in the bathroom had rust and buildup, which made the bathroom feel uncomfortable to use. - The shower head had a lot of limescale, and some other areas also looked like they hadn’t been cleaned properly. • Breakfast was unfortunately very poor. Most items were already finished when I arrived. The scrambled eggs and hash browns were badly cooked and very low quality. I couldn’t eat anything and only had a cup of tea before returning to my room. Because of these cleanliness issue, I might choose another hotel next time.

AAnonymous UserDuring my recent stay at this hotel, I found the overall experience to be enjoyable with top-quality fittings and furnishings. However, there were areas that required improvement. The hotel itself is pleasant, but enhancing the service and room cleaning would significantly improve the guest experience. A standard room was paid for but a disability-accessible room was provided. We requested to change it to a standard which was done immediately without any questions. No water bottles were provided in the room initially; they were only given on request and only two small bottles were provided. Additionally, the room cleaning service was unsatisfactory. Despite requesting it twice over 4 nights, the cleaner only changed the sheets once and neglected to take out the bins vacuum, replace towels or clean the bathroom. This was particularly disappointing given the length of my nearly week-long stay. The breakfast was beautifully presented with various options but unfortunately remained the same every day lacking any variation. Some areas were particularly poor. For instance, the scrambled eggs had a distinct smell and were overly watery. Adding tomatoes or simply varying the options every few days would have improved the experience. One concern we had was the cleaning team. Twice the cleaner used his universal card to enter our room without ensuring no one was present. My partner was in the shower and our young baby was asleep. We heard a knock but were unable to reach the door in time. Upon reaching it we realised he was already entering. This occurred twice and on the following day we decided to chain the door for privacy reasons. In other hotels we have stayed in, privacy is of the utmost concern for staff and they would never even risk opening someone’s locked door without making sure. A better system needs to be in place here.

RRuidianshirouyuanI first stayed here 19 years ago when it was around 500 RMB. Now, due to a game day and exchange rates, it's about 1000 RMB a night, so the value for money is a bit worse. The lobby and staircase have been renovated, losing some of their old-world charm. Pros: 1. Excellent security – they check everyone entering after 10 PM. 2. Great service – they took very good care of my luggage. 3. Good location.
