(Family of 6,we had 2 chalets)Accommodation was poor, bathroom pipes leaked, leaving a horrible smell throughout the rooms. food was terrible, my son was served raw chicken. Staff at the restaurant were arrogant, housekeeping staff seem to have gotten away with a bracelet of mine. After leaving it was difficult to get ahold of them upon realising my bracelet is missing. A day later they still don’t have an answer as to who has taken my bracelet!!!!The only good thing was the game drive! We will never stay at this place again."

"Our first visit to South Africa, arrived on the Queen Mary 2, we drove up from Durban. Arrived for lunch and admired the beautiful setting. Lunch in the conservatory was delicious, steak salad for starters, chicken schnitzel with lovely vegetables, and a chocolate dessert par excellence. Service wonderful as was the delicious glass of local Sauvignon Blanc. A wonder around the grounds was delightful too."

The Old Mushroom Farm was recommended to me by a client, Alice, who lives on the neighbouring farm. She told me I wouldn't regret staying here, and she couldn't have been more right. Thank you, Alice! What was once a working mushroom farm has been transformed into something truly special. The owners have created a destination that perfectly blends thoughtful design, local creativity, and the natural beauty of the KZN Midlands. It's one of those rare places that feels authentic rather than manufactured, this is exactly what my wife and I always look for when traveling locally or aboard. We stayed in The Loft, and absolutely loved it. The space is beautifully simple, warm and rustic, while still offering all the comforts you need. The views from the main bedroom and lounge/ dinning/ kitchen are breath taking! It fits perfectly into the misty rolling hills surrounding Howick, and waking up there each morning was incredibly peaceful. Breakfast was exceptional every single day, and I have to give a special mention to the freshly baked breakfast bun, the scrambled eggs are incredible, which quickly became the highlight of every morning. Sitting outside with a lekker coffee, taking in the view while enjoying my breakfast bun, my daughter on my lap and my wife sitting calming next to me holding my hand was the perfect way to start each day. What really makes The Old Mushroom Farm stand out, though, is the wonderful community it has created. The artisan shops are full of genuinely friendly and passionate people who were happy to chat and share their stories. My wife and I found ourselves lingering far longer than we had planned. I was particularly captivated by Midlands Books & Collectables, where I happily lost track of time browsing through books, antiques and hidden treasures. If you're looking for a place that offers more than just accommodation—somewhere with character, creativity, fantastic food, beautiful scenery and genuinely warm people, yes the people are warm even though the midlands in winter are freezing, the warmth from the community resonated with us —The Old Mushroom Farm is difficult to beat. "7 years ago was our first visit on an overnight package. 13 February 2026 we just popped in for a day package. Delighted to see Fourdoun still going strong with many lovely upgrades. The floatation tank remains the main attraction for me. The aroma theraphy massage was FIRST CLASS. A lovely light lunch. Each part of the package gets a 10/10. Wonderful, warm and welcoming staff and relaxing setting. We will be back asap."
