Reviewed 3 days ago Booked for a couple of days of relaxation. Have stayed before so knew We were in for a really high-quality experience. Really comfortable room, High standards throughout, but not stuffy. I’m going to get the one negative out of the way, there is some sort of problem with drains in that smell that comes into the rooms. I’d forgotten about it from our last visit (May), but was reminded as soon as we walked into our room (different one) this time. I wouldn’t want that to distract too much, as everything else is really good. The food was exceptional and a real highlight. The chefs are genius, that’s the only explanation I can think of. Beautiful, thoughtful, clever, delicious dishes. I had a mushroom tart starter that I will remember forever. Absolutely sublime.

I’m going to get the one negative out of the way, there is an unpleasant smell that seems to permeate the bedrooms. It seems particularly bad in the evenings, I’d forgotten about it from our last visit (May), but there is still an issue. Such a shame, as everything else about the hotel is wonderful. I stayed at Losehill House Hotel & Spa for one night, from 4 to 5 November 2025, to celebrate my anniversary with my wife. We booked the Dinner, Bed & Breakfast package, which cost just over £300 for the night. Overall, my experience was mixed, with both outstanding and disappointing aspects. The positives: The location is absolutely stunning. Set in the heart of the Peak District, the hotel offers magnificent views of the surrounding hills, particularly breathtaking in autumn, with the trees in full colour. The sight of sheep grazing on the slopes adds to the charm. The staff, all of them women during our stay, were uniformly courteous, attentive, and kind, both at reception and in the restaurant. The spa facilities were pleasant, though modest. As is common these days, the term spa is used rather liberally. Essentially, it consists of an indoor pool and, outside, a jacuzzi and a sauna. They are perfectly adequate, but nothing extraordinary, certainly less impressive than, for example, the spa at the Midland Hotel in Manchester or The Grand in York. The negatives: The only option available was a fixed menu at £67.50 per person. Since I rarely spend that much on a meal, I expected something truly memorable, a generous and refined dining experience. Unfortunately, this was not the case. For starters, I ordered the pheasant, which was tasty but consisted of three minuscule pieces. My wife’s fondant potato was underwhelming and equally small. For the main course, I had venison (again, three tiny slices that must have weighed under 100 grams in total) while my wife’s sirloin of losehill beef was equally meagre. We ended up ordering side dishes (at £5 each) to avoid leaving the table hungry. As a result, an already expensive dinner at £135 for two became £158. The food itself was good, but paying such a price and still feeling hungry felt outrageous. The waitresses noticed my dissatisfaction and kindly offered an extra portion of meat for both of us, a thoughtful gesture that I appreciated. Still, I find it astonishing that such small portions are considered acceptable. Personally, I would rather have a £20 Sunday roast at a local pub and leave fully satisfied. For dessert, my wife chose banana bread and I had carrot cake. The portions were again modest, but by then we had eaten enough. After dinner, guests gathered in a cosy lounge next to the dining room to enjoy tea, drinks, and conversation in a very pleasant atmosphere. The room and breakfast: Our room was comfortable and attractively decorated, with a lovely view. We slept well. Breakfast the next morning was excellent, both in quality and quantity. I had smoked Scottish salmon with eggs, while my wife ordered avocado toast with eggs. We then shared yogurt with granola and fruit, accompanied by freshly squeezed juices and tea. No complaints whatsoever: it was a perfect start to the day. Other observations: For a four-star hotel charging these prices, the lack of transport assistance

So we were lucky enough to stay for 4 nights and I could only say thank you to everyone for how amazing our stay was. We had a family suite and DB&B and it’s the first time in a long time we were so relaxed and chilled. Food was great staff were attentive and friendly. The location perfect for exploring and walking straight out the hotel. If you just want to unwind and have a good food with excellent service this is the place. Hotel was great room was just what we needed and I could charge my car to! Thank you so much

Our second visit here - we had a few days here this time last year. Feels off the normal track getting here, but nice car parking, plus some spots just a bit further for electric cars. Warm welcome in the small reception area and we were soon off to our room. We booked room 25 which is a suite. Was very comfortable and relaxing. Hotel has a spa area - to use pool/sauna/hot-tub area you are asked to book a time slot - this prevents the pool etc getting too busy. Pool is lovely - not big, but definately not small. Just outside from the pool room is a four person sauna and a probably six person hot tub. Graphine restaurant in the evening is very good. Menu choices are few, but the dishes are prepared with great ingredients and superb skill. Main menu has a vegiterian option and there is also an extra vegitarian option if needed. The restaurant area is also used for breakfast. Breakfast options are very good. Have as light a breakfast as you wish, through to full Derbyshire breakfast, and lots of other choices. From past and current experience the rooms are warm, comfortable, very well cared for and just what you need after a day out and about. All the staff have been friendy and very helpful. I would have no hesitation at all in returning for another visit. May have to let the lovely dinners wear off a bit1

Just perfection. It’s our second stay at LHS as we enjoyed it so much the first time and it certainly didn’t disappoint us the second time. The bolt on spa is great too for the hot tub and sauna. 🧖♂️
