Great location & wonderful condo with some issues. A great price close to town but more geared towards older couples. No one under 14 yrs old can use the hot tub. Biggest issues are lack of lighting on the covered patios with a 9 pm curfew and snorkels, masks & fins are provided but access to the surf is hazardous with no beach - just slippery lava rocks. You can't hang towels or clothes on the lanai fence nor even make cell phone calls there despite poor reception in the unit. There's no bathtub. Needed maintenance to fix the unstable toilet & replace ceiling fan light batteries but they responsed quickly. Well landscaped grounds. Bed mattress firm and comfortable but couch pull out mattress needs replacement. Kitchen mop needed for tiled floors.

After reading the reviews, I remember why I stay here; it’s not kid friendly and I LOVE that. It’s quiet and perfect without kids ruining your lovely peaceful vacation. Everything was clean and I’m working condition, we will be back.

IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN - DO NOT STAY HERE! IF YOU DO NOT HAVE CHILDREN DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!! The pool rules are ridiculous, children ages 14 and under are not allowed to use the jacuzzi. It does not state that anywhere when you book the condo, upon arrival there is a sign tied to the jacuzzi stating children are not allowed in jacuzzi for “safety and health” purposes, yet children 14 and under are allowed to enter the pool that goes to 8 ft in depth if supervised, which makes absolutely no sense at all. The residents who live there are rude to guest and call “security” at the slightest thing. You basically have to whisper while walking the property. We witnessed a beautiful family enjoying themselves at the pool, only to see a mother get yelled at by security for her children enjoying themselves at the pool. We do not have any children and do not agree with what was told to this mother. The security was yelling so loudly at her we could hear him from our room which caused us to move to the balcony and witness him screaming at a mother. we witnessed this security guard say to this mother “RESIDENTS TAKE PICTURES OF GUEST WHOM THEY FEEL ARE NOT ABIDING BY THE RULES and SUBMIT THEM VIA TEXT TO HIM.” This is a violation of privacy. We are appalled at the way this gentlemen handled hisself. He continued to scream at the mother telling her he was going to fine her. $100,$200,$400 if she did not keep her children quiet or out of the jacuzzi. He proceeded to tell her she can check out and get a refund if she didn’t like what he had to say, his dinner was interrupted by residents sending him pictures of her family at the pool because they were “breaking the rules.” This behavior by the security guard is appalling, we do not have children yet feel for this family and the way they were poorly treated. We searched the description online and they fail to state all jacuzzi and pool rules which is false advertisement. Shame on Kona Makai and staff for such POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE towards this family. For allowing families to book the condo then placing restrictions on jacuzzi use. On a separate note, My husband went to the room when before I was ready to leave the pool and luckily I had my cell phone with me. I was unable to exit the pool without him coming back to let me back out. I asked a fellow resident at the pool if she could kindly let me out as my husband had gone back to our room and taken they key with him, she refused. I am a 50 year old adult and was locked inside of the pool. WE WILL NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN and we encourage other to not waste their money on a location that treats human beings in such a disgusting manner.
