The thing that really stands out from this place is the very strong sense that the staff feel you should feel honoured to stay here and be grateful that they allow you to eat in their restaurant. We have done our fair share of pretentious dining over the years and know the inherent ‘snobbery’ of these places and the staff. ‘Hey guys you are just servers…get over yourselves.’ But this place was the worst in our 40 years of travel. They leverage the renovated English castle ruins thing. Bought and funded by a rich American academic (go figure) the hotel is grand from outside and nice from the inside. Our room was dark and dingy. But the window nook was cool. The ‘drawing room’ was pretty but is just a large room filled with some old furniture bought online I guess. Now to the really bad stuff. They have this ridiculously rigid dinner routine. Guests must congregate in the drawing room at 5.45 pm. Pre-dinner drinks must be ordered, drunk and paid for. Then menus brought out, once food is chosen, you still don’t go down to the dining room. You must sit around like a shag on a rock until told that your food is cooked and ready to be served. Thus we had booked for 6.00 but were seated at 6.45pm. When we walked into the dining room we were taken to a table around the corner from the restaurant door. Squashed up against the rear wall. We sat and I went to take a photo of my partner. But I didn’t take the shot when I saw what was behind her. I saw a view of the restaurant door and the sign ‘Exit’ in big bold letters. I looked around the restaurant and there was only 1 other couple in the while restaurant. I called our waiter to get us the Manager. He arrived after 5 minutes. This young man was totally unsuitable for this role or any role in hospitality. I explained that I wasn’t happy with the table and asked why we were placed here. He said ‘the restaurant is fully booked tonite’. I looked around and said there is no one here. Why did you put us here? He said with a dismissive shrug of the shoulders ‘someone has to sit there.’ I repeated why us and why now? We had booked the hotel and the restaurant 5 months earlier. There was certainly space to put us at a better table. Why not put the people who booked later or arrived later in this bad table at the rear with the view of the exit door. His condescending and arrogant response made us feel 10 cm tall. I stood up and we moved to another table. Furious. We gobbled down the food in 15 minutes and asked for the bill. To add salt to the wound the ‘Manager’ continued to harass us through our 15 minute dinner and in giving us the excessive and completely waste of money bill. A terrible night only made worse by the horrible attitude of this entitled young man who delighted in our misery. We hated this hotel and would never return.

This hotel is in an excellent location, and is a really excellent retreat for a stay. Close to Hexham, and Hadrians Wall sites, including the magnificent Vindolanda. The restaurant is superb, staff are friendly and really helpful. Menu options are very good.

fabulous place to stay steeped in history. luxury hotel with nice spacious rooms and very helpful and friendly staff. nice grounds. don’t miss the daily castle tour at 1015 each day. a few minor improvement points that stop me giving 5 stars. - slow check in process - no fridge or mini bar in room - the restaurant isn’t quite fine dining particularly the service - no nibbles with bar drinks. - no salt or pepper on any tables at breakfast or dinner. - the castle tour was nice but the lady doing it had a very strong local accent which was difficult to understand. also the nice film about the history had a super fast commentary which was hard to keep up with.

Very comfortable stay in a period castle. Great food for vegetarians too. Service is great. Staff is cordial and cooperative. Beautiful ambience. Great view from top of the castle. Very near to a part of hadrian wall Vindolando.

Lovely castle with great accommodation and dining options if you’re looking for ye olde experience. Note; very Limited rooms in the castle itself. We booked online only to find out our room was actually in another building when we checked in. Very disappointed as it was not clear on the booking site. The grounds are lovely, the tour around the castle was very interesting and our guide was fabulous. Dining was okay, not an exactly high end, but enjoyable enough.

Located just off the A69 in the wooded grounds of the rolling Northumberland countryside lies this fantastic piece of history that offers a secluded and peaceful environment that is worlds and time away from the hustle & bustle of everyday life. We stayed in a Castle View Room, which is a stones throw from the main Castle Building, and offers a scenic view of the Castle and beautifully landscaped gardens. The adjacent car parking is close to both the Castle and accommodation thus facilitating easy luggage transfer. Check-In was simple where instructions for dinner and breakfast were provided. Our first floor Castle View room was huge and tastefully appointed with period decor. There is complementary Tea, Coffee and Biscuits to enjoy with Sky TV and Free Internet provided. The Bed was comfortably firm and a good night sleep was easy with no disturbances. Service was impeccable and attentive but not overbearing. Kudos to all staff with a special mention to Rachel, James and Lily, who presented her first History Tour around the Castle after breakfast the next day, which was again delicious. Even the Peacocks paid us a visit for the hope of some tastey morsels...no chance... There is plenty of opportunity for local works or just sitting reading a book in the Historic surrounding. The History Tour after breakfast is well worth staying a bit later for. Learn about the history of this iconic Castle and the people who have lived and owned this piece of Englands Heritage. Highly recommend a staycation when visiting the area or just a place to retreat to for a piece of mental relaxation. Thanks Langley, you made our stay memorable and definitely top of our list for a repeat visit...

Absolutely superb in every aspect from fantastic service, food, location and atmosphere. Langley Castle is one of my top three of stays in the UK, we had an amazing experience and would not hesitate to return nor recommend to all. The room was comfortable, tastefully decorated, spacious with good facilities, the evening meal and breakfast were cooked to perfection and the staff were constantly on the ball. There is a service charge but the staff truly deserved it, nothing is too much trouble, you can even have a tour of the castle which includes the battlements, highly recommend and is a do not miss

Not our favorite spot in the area. The rooms are comfortable but don't expect to stay in the castle - more like a castle view. The food was less than spectacular and the service was lacking. Our orders were all wrong and the dinner situation is bizarre. You place your order upstairs at the bar 20 minutes before you are taking downstairs to the dinning room and there is clearly mis-communication with the staff. Would not recommend. Spend your money and time elsewhere.

What a beautiful and comfortable place. I was a bit hesitant knowing that old structures (and this is really old) might be uncomfortable but this was anything but. The staff were exceedingly professional and gave the feeling of formal training in hospitality. I was thoroughly impressed with how they were able to modernize the interior to make it into a proper modern hotel while still preserving the essence of the castle. I stayed in the cottage “castle view” and this was cozy, opulent, and serene. The restaurant was equally elegant and the menu complex but approachable. Breakfast was lovely. The only downside was that I could only stay for one night. If you have the opportunity, treat yourself and stay at the Langley
