Stayed here on a date night with a lad I was seeing. Welcoming for same sex couples. Romantic room, I forget the name of the suite we were in but it was a beautiful room of greens and oranges and overlooked the main street. Absolutely faultless including the breakfast.

Stunning, traditional B+B. Uniquely decorated throughout. Good breakfast options and central location. Anyone looking for old worldly charm should pay a visit. Bonus free parking near by too.

I booked an overnight stay at this BnB as a birthday and anniversary treat for my husband, we were both looking forward to a relaxing getaway particularly after looking at the available online info. The website promised a warm welcome and a great on-site restaurant and bar, which had a special offer of 2 cocktails for £10 from Thursday to Sunday which were keen to sample. Unfortunately, this stay didn’t quite live up to expectations. Shortly after booking our visit I became aware that the restaurant might not be open for our stay, there was conflicting information online so I booked a meal at a local pub just to be on the safe side. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a note on the door telling us to use the Ring doorbell, which did, we spoke to someone on the other end who gave us the code to enter, where to find our room key and directions to our room - definitely not the warm, personal welcome we had imagined. The room itself was lovely—spacious, comfortable, and well-equipped with everything we needed for our stay, including a whirlpool bath. However, the jets in the bath didn’t work which was a huge letdown, especially since we had both been looking forward to trying it out. After having our meal out we returned to the B n B hoping to enjoy a cocktail or two at the bar, but when we arrived, the bar was closed and there was no sign of anyone around. In fact, the first time we actually saw anyone was at breakfast the following morning. Speaking of breakfast, it was definitely the highlight of our stay. The dining room had a cozy, welcoming atmosphere and was beautifully decorated, there was a good range of options— including cereals, juices, and hot dishes, however shortly after sitting down at the breakfast table the lady that was serving us began talking about the “lazy staff” that had been on the night before and then proceeded to show us pictures of an overflowing bin in the kitchen which was not only unprofessional but also unwelcome at 8am in the morning. The breakfast itself was exceptional and we were glad that things were going to end on a positive note. When it came time to check out, we handed over the room key at the office door. The staff member quickly checked us out, but there was no "thank you for staying," no good-bye, or any kind of polite parting words—just a “that’s you checked out” Overall, it’s a real shame that the lack of customer service and unfulfilled promises about the facilities really let down what could have been a great stay. Everything else, from the room to the breakfast, was great, but the lack of attention to service and the amenities mean we won’t be returning.

A bit of a strange one this.. Booked a night’s stay based on the location (which is perfect). Welcome was ok, explained where to park the car, which is conveniently just around the corner and checked in as our room was ready. First impressions were mixed: the room was ok but the paintwork around the door before we entered the room gave a poor impression: it needed a good wipe as was grubby. The bed was very comfortable and there was a well-stocked tea tray. The bath was a lovely jacuzzi bath which I enjoyed. However, the whole place needs a bit of attention. We were very disappointed that the bar was closed as we would have enjoyed a drink in our actual hotel (one of the reasons for booking). I also didn’t like having to close the curtains to have privacy in the bedroom and bathroom, even in the day. Breakfast was actually very good, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Overall, we had a reasonable stay but wouldn’t return sadly. This place could be a real gem if it was run more professionally.

We stayed for two nights (there’s a two night min stay requirement) over the bank holiday weekend in the Tudor Room which came to about £275 (including breakfast). We followed the online instructions that before you park up to go to the hotel and pick up a parking permit, check in was at 3pm but we got there at 2pm - not to check in but just to get a car parking permit so then we could explore the area a bit before going in. The whole building was locked up and empty. I used the Ring doorbell, house doorbell and called the mobile number listed on the door multiple times. We parked somewhere further away for a while and came back at 3pm as surely somebody would have been there to let us in then. Alas no - rang the doorbell and phone numbers. In the end someone rang me back said someone should have been there to let me in but wasn’t there and gave me access to the building via a door code and we checked ourselves in(!!!) The room left a lot to be desired. It was a very tired room and the en suite in particular needs a lot of attention. The shower leaked on to the floor via the bath and the toilet handle was broken. The floor boards seemed broken too and a bit precarious. The room itself was clean, the bed is big and it has tea and coffee facilities. When we went back to the hotel in the evening we’d hoped to see some staff to confirm our arrival (or just have any interaction at all) and there was nobody there. Breakfast is quite nice - there’s a good amount of choice. When we got back to the hotel on the second evening we’d hoped to have a drink in the hotel bar but - again- they were absolutely no staff around to ask. I’ve never come across anything quite like it. When we checked out on the second day it felt like we were inconveniencing them. There’s a laminated piece of paper in the room which explains about the building and the hotel and it says something along the lines of ‘this is a family run business if something isn’t great let us know and we’ll sort it out’ - there’s literally no one to tell. As it was a bank holiday weekend if they’d have opened during the day they’d have made a fortune with passing trade for teas and scones etc. A very disappointing stay which was a shame because it’s in such a beautiful area and building.

Nice hotel, but please consider group bookings Overall, a lovely hotel. We stayed for two nights. The room was lovely. Nice four poster bed, the chaise lounge was a little uncomfortable. The 1st night was really good. Given times were required by the hotel staff for breakfast which was really good and prompt. The 2nd night was less relaxing. A large group were staying & we were disturbed during the night, lots of banging, loud voices, heavy feet. Not really what you want when going away as a couple. Particularly without prior warning. When speaking to staff this morning, it was clear they were aware the rest of the guests were together for an event. Although guests are given staggered times for breakfast, the larger group came at the same time today all sitting together. Due to being a family gathering it was a little loud. This morning's breakfast was also less prompt & less variety due to the capacity. The poor waitress tried her best, but being on her own, literally didn't stop moving the whole time. Fresh juices were empty by having so many eating at the same time and weren't refilled. Relatives of the party also arrived although staying elsewhere for their breakfast with their group, meaning although we came down promptly for our slot, we were left waiting for a time. It was just a little loud and being the only guests not part of the group, felt a little uncomfortable personally. It was almost like we were intruding on a private event. It's just perhaps something for management to consider for the future.

I stayed at the Old Registry for one night 29th July 2025. I stayed in the Tudor room on the first floor. The overall impression of the room is ‘very tired’. The decoration is in poor repair and the soft furnishings are worn out and of poor quality. A good example are the pillows. These are like flat bags of cement with the same amount of bounce. The en-suite is in a very poor state. The bath leaked water into a puddle around the toilet. This had clearly been like it for some time as the floor boards feel very fragile and bouncy and not at all safe. The toilet cistern handle is almost falling off. The whole en-suite and bedroom need a deep clean. No bathroom should have black mould around the seal as this did. The breakfast was ok. The service was fairly slow, but without any interaction from the young girl who was doing one task at a time. There was no follow up as to if I would like more tea or toast. It’s such a shame as the overall building is interesting with many fine features. The whole place needs some serious refurbishment in my opinion.
