"Friendly service "

"I booked a dog friendly room for 1 night, when I arrived, i was informed by Dave the room was not dog friendly. That the booking. Com had booked the cheapest room, this was not dog friendly! I was offered the lodge 1, for an additional £45, I asked if a reduction could be made, as to my knowledge I only had to pay £10 towards cleaning for my dog. Dave said I could pay £25. Which i paid. The lodge, was large, but basic, the mattress thin and lumpy. There was no curtain at the bathroom window. Limited tea / coffee offerings. Sue the wife if Dave, said there was an enclosed dog field, this had massive gaps in the fencing therefore I couldn't let my dog off. Breakfast was OK. Staff were lovely. I showed Bob the Chef the correspondence from Balcary hotel re my booking, he insisted dog friendly rooms were £175 per night. That i had paid £25 for an upgrade, even though i hadn't asked for an upgrade. As the hotel staff have stated it's a fault with booking. Com. I have contacted them. I don't feel that thus hotel is a 4 star more of a 3 star"

"A really fantastic family run hotel. Full of character and class. Fabulous rooms, bars and dining areas. Upkeep and cleanliness coul not be better. The food was wonderful with plenty of choice. The best hotel I've stayed in in Scotland and I will definitely be going back."

"Excellent stay! I had the pleasure of staying in this lovely rural country house. The hosts were extremely friendly, accommodating and welcoming. The bedroom was delightful - very quiet and peaceful. The food was top quality and there is a lovely atmosphere. A highlight was the resident hare family walking past the window as I ate breakfast. I will definitely be going back to this lovely b&b and would highly recommend a stay."
