Located in the south side of Maui on South Kihei Road, the Maui Sunset is a condominium complex comprised of individually-owned vacation rental properties. There is a management office onsite that takes care of check-in/check-out, administration, and facility maintenance. My wife and I spent eight nights here in mid-October 2024. We stayed in Unit B-402, which is a one-bedroom condominium. It features two small bathrooms, each with a shower, and a fully furnished kitchen that includes a dishwasher, full-sized refrigerator and wine cooler, as well as a washer and dryer unit. Adjacent to the kitchen is a trundle bed, a dining area and the living room. Beyond that is a large furnished balcony (actually more of a lanai) with a partial view of the ocean. The property owner kindly provides beach towels and mats, pool toys, and a multitude of board games. There is no central air conditioning, but there are room AC units in both the bedroom and living room. There are also two ceiling fans and several floor fans available if needed. During our stay, everything (plumbing, lights, AC, flat screen television, wireless Internet, etc.) worked fine. The mattress on the bed felt a little old and sagged in places, but we ended up sleeping OK. The common areas are well-maintained, especially the highly manicured landscaping. The pool area is very pleasant, and the property connects with Waipulani Beach, a small public beach where you can see some spectacular sunsets. NOTE that there is no food service or gift shop on site, but the property is only a few blocks away from the commercial section of Kihei, where you can find supermarkets, pharmacies, gift shops and numerous restaurants. The location served us well as a base for our Maui activities – Wailea, Makena, and Maalaea Harbor are all a short drive away. Kahului Airport is less than a 30-minute drive, and both Kapalua and Haleakala National Park are reasonable commutes. All-in-all, we enjoyed our stay at the Maui Sunset and can happily recommend it to fellow vacationers.

Really nice area very quiet great for couples not alot for kids to do. We were 2 mins walk to the pool and 3 mins to beach. Swimming in the sea it's lovely and warm and we had visitors from the turtles very cool. Highly recommended for couples. Nov is very quiet but just want we needed.

Great condo, though a little far from the better beaches of Kihei. Pool is small, yet we stilled enjoyed after a day at the beach. Hot tub is hot, which is great. Front desk upon arrival annoyed we were early, but front desk personnel very friendly upon check out. No swimming at the beach, too windy. Sand painful as it blows on your skin. Great to watch windsurfing, that is it.

Maui Sunset has some great features but they are in the verge of going downhill if they don’t invest in upgrades. Positives: Great views. Two bedroom units are roomie. Maintenance staff works hard (watched the pool crew every morning do a thorough job). Also, had a refrigerator issue on day one. The maintenance guy was prompt and very nice. Beachside lawn area is great for families. Pool towels, beach chairs, etc are all in the rooms. Free use of shuffle board, tennis gear, ice chest, etc. Free parking. All rooms have nice ceiling fans and the kitchen is well stocked with dishes. Negatives: Not a friendly check in experience. Woman never even smiled or looked me in the eye. I felt I was a bother for checking in. Street side/exterior looks rundown. When we drove up, we were concerned this was “a dump” (glad we were wrong). NO LUGGAGE CARTS. The lady that checked us in said there were grocery carts scattered around but we hunted and never found them till day 8 - we saw one and it literally is a grocery store cart. No way luggage would fit. It would have helped on day one when we arrived with bags of groceries but that’s it. Why no luggage carts??? Finally, because this complex dates back to the mid-70’s, the rooms have window air conditioners. That’s no biggee BUT they are nasty looking and NOISY. They need to upgrade to quiet, energy efficient units. Also, broken and filthy windows and screens. Ugh. A usable beach is a drive. The beach in front of the complex is rocky and small. You will not want to play/ layout here. Overall, we got a great price on the Maui Sunset but even at this price, I don’t think we will return.

The beginning of the trip was great. Loved the resort and the location. On the 4th day (a friday), workers on a unit above us dropped pain chips on our balcony, while we were eating. Even though we weren't advised, we ignored it as we understand maintenance is necessary. Then day 6, (Monday) they started working overhead at 8am. Load banging noises and shop vac lasted 3 hours and now our balcony is covered in paint chips. Again had they told us of the work and cleaned up after, it wouldn't have been an issue. When I talked to the office about the issue, they didn't seem to care or was willing to clean up the mess. The balcony is useless now

There are SO many things I liked about this condo complex. The units are exceptionally clean, Kitchen was well stocked, furniture was comfortable and clean, bed, sheets, pillowz were of very high quality. The bathrooms were spotless. Having a pin pad on the door meant not having to carry a key everywhere. The management company has high standards in keeping up the grounds, pool and spa and they are very responsive when you need to call them. We enjoyed the putting green as well. The beach is just a few yards away from the condos. We were there during a very sad time for Maui but I have to say everyone there at the condos, restaurants, golf courses and stores were extremely friendly. We couldn't have enjoyed our trip more! We will stay at the Maui Sunset again. We visit Hawaii at least two times a year. We booked this based on a recommendation from a friend in Southern California who has a time share in Kihei.

We stayed at the Maui Sunset Unit A-107 in Kihei at 1032 South Kihei Road. The location is excellent, sadly the condo is not. Tired and in need of some care and refurbishment the owner explained they had had too many booking to refurbish. A sofa bed held together with string, a loose toilet seat, sinks that did not drain properly, old electrical sockets, linen and carpeting. The owner is more interest in making money than the guest experience and sadly does not take feedback well. So much potential that could be realized. Would recommend the location but not this unit.

This place lives up to it’s name: The sunsets are truly spectacular. Nothing more is necessary than to just walk outside to the beach! There are plenty of activities onsite to keep everyone occupied. The resort is centrally located to anything on the island. Grocery stores and lots of restaurants are within waking distance. The customer service is five star!!
