We opted to do the hotel safari (although other options are available), and we had a great guide and saw tonnes of elephants (even males chasing each other!), leopards, monkeys, water buffalo, crocodiles, and a whole host of other creatures great and small. Our guide was top: knowledgeable and friendly. Driver great too. Food was great in buffet, and à la carte was fantastic: veggie wrap can’t be missed and this is coming from a complete carnivore. The entire property feels like a meticulously maintained natural park, where the landscaping seamlessly blends with the surrounding lake. The scenery, with the water and sky mirroring each other, is incredibly therapeutic. Walking around the grounds, you’ll see egrets gracefully strolling on the lawns or flying low overhead, and various small animals everywhere. Even lizards, which are “standard Southeast Asian fare,” add to the ecological feel – it truly feels like living in a wildlife park. The hotel's outdoor pool is large and expansive, offering direct lake views, perfect for photos and relaxation. There’s also a dedicated boardwalk by the lake, ideal for cycling or a stroll in the evening, enjoying the lake breeze and watching the sunset – it's so comfortable you won’t want to leave. 🏊♂️ **[Facilities and Rooms: Basic but Solid, Bathroom a Huge Plus]** The room generally boasts Hilton's standard configuration – clean and spacious. The bathroom, in particular, is very large, making it comfortable to use. Given that it's an eco-park in Sri Lanka, occasionally you might find small mosquitoes near the toilet, which is normal for Southeast Asian hotels and perfectly acceptable. The hotel has two restaurants, offering both à la carte and buffet options. The food quality is decent, and they support Alipay and WeChat Pay, which is much more cost-effective than using local currency directly. 🍽️ **[Dining Experience: Lacking Highlights, Buffet Rather Ordinary]** Due to an upset stomach, we didn’t try the buffet and ordered à la carte, which tasted pretty good. The breakfast buffet looked like it had many options and was quite crowded, but in reality, there weren't many choices that suited our taste. Also, because there are many Indian guests staying, both breakfast and dinner had dedicated Indian food sections. For tourists not used to strong flavors, this further limited the options. Compared to a five-star hotel's positioning, the breakfast as a whole was only average, which is a common issue with most hotels in Sri Lanka. 📍 **[Location and Travel: An Excellent Base for Safari]** The hotel is not far from Yala National Park's Safari area, making it very convenient whether you’re driving yourself or using a private car. We personally found that there’s no need to rush for an early morning safari; an afternoon departure offered a much better experience. We saw a leopard as soon as we entered the park and also spotted most of the iconic animals mentioned in guidebooks. There's no need to get up early and rush, and you can return to the hotel to relax right after – the pace was incredibly comfortable. Always prioritize using Alipay/WeChat for payments, as the exchange rate is much better than using local currency directly. Overall, this hotel is absolutely worth staying at, thanks to its stunning ecological environment and excellent location! If you're coming for the safari and natural scenery, this place will definitely be a highlight of your trip. The only minor regret is that the dining didn't quite match the overall quality."

"I would advise anyone planning to book this hotel to think carefully. Although it is advertised as a five-star hotel, the customer service and the way our reservation was handled were extremely disappointing. We originally booked two double rooms for 27, 28 and 29 June. We paid the full amount of LKR 360,000 through Boundless Travel Company for a two-night stay on a full-board basis. Unfortunately, my mother accidentally injured her leg, so we were unable to stay on the original dates. As the full payment had already been made, we contacted the hotel, explained the situation and requested a change of dates. We were initially told that we could reschedule our stay within one month. We then requested 25, 26 and 27 July. The hotel first agreed to these dates but later changed its decision. We were told that a foreign wedding would be held at the hotel during those dates and that they could no longer accommodate us. The hotel then asked us to choose another date, so we proposed 15, 16 and 17 August. However, those dates were also rejected because the hotel claimed that it was the peak season. Later, the hotel asked us to provide a medical certificate for my mother’s injury. They then said that because we had not submitted the medical certificate within one week, they could not accommodate us. However, this one-week deadline was never clearly communicated to us when we first requested the postponement. If this was an important condition, it should have been clearly explained from the beginning—not introduced later after the hotel had already accepted our full payment and asked us to select alternative dates. For clarity, we have no complaint against Boundless Travel Company. The company was only involved in arranging the booking and processing our payment. We are confident that the problem lies with the hotel and the way it handled our request. We are mentioning this clearly because we do not want the hotel to avoid responsibility or attempt to place the blame on the travel company. Despite paying LKR 360,000 in full, we were neither given the accommodation we paid for nor offered a fair and consistent opportunity to reschedule. The hotel repeatedly changed its response, rejected the alternative dates we proposed and introduced new conditions that had not been clearly explained earlier. This is not the level of customer service or professionalism expected from a hotel advertised as a five-star establishment. We are simply asking the hotel either to honour our fully paid reservation on a mutually acceptable date without introducing further unreasonable conditions or to provide a full refund of LKR 360,000."

"Ravana Garden was a haven for our 7 day stay. It's right on the beach with a calm atmosphere, at a 100m walking distance to a natural pool (with less dangerous waves), meals with locally-sourced ingredients and surrounded by a lot of nature. Also there are many activities that are arranged by them through Whatsapp. We felt entirely at peace and taken care of at this resort. Another main highlight was the sustainability that people really come here for. Ravana Garden has won many awards for their practices including the compost, usage of solar power, locally sourced ingredients, self-manufactured spices etc. No TV in the room, but we never felt the need for it. Open bathrooms, well designed spacious rooms, comfortable king beds, such varied and delicious food! In April, it was quite warm outside, but in the common area there is a nice flow of breeze and fans that do a decent job of keeping you cool. The room had an AC & a fan to cool us down."

"It has the standard and amenities of a typical star-rated hotel, but it's probably the newest and most modern hotel in Sri Lanka! If you're visiting Yala, you don't necessarily have to choose this hotel. If you're not picky about the age of a hotel, I think there are several other good hotels nearby! The main issue is that staying here for over 10,000 RMB for three days and two nights really doesn't feel worthwhile! Everyone at the hotel is trying their best to provide service, but it's really disappointing. Perhaps due to a small staff and a difference in mindset, the efficiency is just too slow."

Ziba Luxury Villa
"Minimalistic hotel rooms well located off Silent Beach in Tangalle. Nice communal pool and a small amount of rooms makes the villa quite tranquil and never busy. The staff are wonderful and the chef cooks delicious food which is all very reasonably priced. I just recommend you stay away from beef in this country as it’s quite inedible, this seems a common theme whether you’re buying a cheap burger or an expensive beef dish. The only detractions to the accomodation was a foul odour emanating from the shower in the mornings, but it did dissipate thereafter. Also I find there is little point of an in-room safe if it isn’t bolted to the ground. You can literally walk in and pick the safe up and exit the room making it redundant. Rooms are well appointed and well priced for the area given the two luxury alternatives are the Amanwella resort which is quite dated and much more expensive and the Anantara Peace Haven which is more expensive but also a fantastic product. The local beach here is beautiful. I would stay here again, but I expect rooms will be hard to come by as the country lacks 5 star resorts at this time. I would stay here again no doubt and recommend the property."

Breakfast has an incredible variety of cravings. But there is a small problem. Kamal prepared a seafood platter for our dinner. Kamal said there was fresh fish, but the fish we got was very old and had no taste."

"A new hotel that manages, despite the best efforts of its charming staff to get is slightly wrong. The hotel is reached down a long unmade track which would challenge the suspension of all but the hardiest 4x4. The beach is un-swimmable, for all but the best and bravest of swimmers, thanks to a sharp drop off and a rolling swell. The lakes behind the hotel are a breeding ground for particularly vicious insects. The architecture is Dubai meets Sri Lanka and lacks an understanding of the importance of proportion and detail Not bad, but not worth a detour."

"Our stay at O2 Villas was honestly incredible. I couldn’t recommend it more. We stayed for two nights and did the safari one afternoon, which ended up being one of the highlights of the whole trip. Our guide from O2 Villas was amazing and really went above and beyond. We were lucky enough to see a leopard, and he also took us to the red sand beach and dunes to watch the sunset, which was absolutely unforgettable. The villas themselves are stunning - a real touch of luxury in such a peaceful setting. We loved spending time just relaxing at the villa and completely switching off. The staff were all fantastic and made the whole experience feel very special. If you get the chance, definitely book the bonfire restaurant evening. The setting was beautiful and we had the most incredible grilled fish and so much delicious food. An unforgettable stay… 11/10."

"After staying at Amangalla, which was absolutely fantastic, we came to Amanwella. We were a little apprehensive after having had such a great time at the first hotel. But Amanwella was great, too! The architecture by famous Australian, Kerry Hill, is stunning and smack dab in the middle of a dreamy tropical beach! The infinity pool cantilevers over the serene and gorgeous view, with beautiful sunsets a-plenty. We enjoyed spending time in the attractive library, read and saw books on local history, to Nixon. The whole place was immaculate. We really enjoyed our safari to Yala National Park. Rujitha and an our driver Chummly accompanied us and they were awesome! Thank you guys! We had a blast! We saw monkeys, elephants and even a leopard! We got very lucky. We enjoyed the food and the people who served us in the two restaurants and the people at the front desk and even the tuk tuk drivers. We happily did yoga everyday! We also went up to the rock temple. Definitely got our steps in for the month, but it was worth it. Our room was large, comfortable, and beautiful with a great view of the ocean. We can’t say enough about the place. It’s relaxing and beautiful and the people who work there are both well trained but also kind. If you go, don’t forget to eat the ice cream! Honestly the best we’ve ever had. We also took a great cooking class with the Executive Sous Chef, who was patient, friendly and knowledgeable. So fun and interesting. We enjoyed the musicians, too! We had fun meeting a few of the other guests, and ended up having very interesting conversations with people from the other side of the world. But it’s also a place you could go and if you wanted to , you could just spend time quietly by yourself. Highly recommend Amanwella. We will treasure our memories forever."

"We stayed with as a family of 4 with 2 children aged 12&8. This was a perfect quiet retreat to relax for a couple of days. We didn't head to Yala NP as many guests do and did the local basket weaving activity and bird tour, which were both great. The highlight is the accommodation, with peaceful balconies onto the lake and stunning rooms. We really enjoyed our sunset drinks on our tent balcony. The food was plentiful, good and the staff really friendly."

"We had a peaceful and serene stay at Malala. The hotel is perfect for those who would like to get away from the hustle and bustle and be with nature. Rooms are clean and have everything you need. What we enjoyed the most was the food. Chef Sri is very accommodating and the food is really good. We enjoyed a good string hopper breakfast one morning and a pol roti breakfast the next morning. The hotel staff is always obliging and overall had a lovely experience."

"We enjoyed a lovely couple of days at this small hotel with on-site restaurant and a massage centre over the road. Rooms are sizeable and functional. Pool and rooms enjoy stunning views over the ocean and sunrise. Its a short walk to the beach which was largely deserted: certainly no beach side bars. Swimming didn't look safe to us on the main beach beyond the breakwater. There is a simple, small beach side restaurant about 1 km away - lovely walk down deserted lane. Tangalle beaches are 30 min drive - fine if you've got a driver. Great place if you're looking for somewhere a bit "off grid"."

"Our second visit to Lankavatara SPA Hotel surpassed our expectations! Returning after a year, we were greeted by the same serene beach, the warmth and hospitality of the Sri Lankan staff, and notably improved culinary experiences courtesy of the kitchen team. Our room nr. 8 (Front ocean view) was as clean and well-maintained as a year ago. Anousha – the best masseuses in the world – still works at the SPA, and the overall vibe of the hotel is as relaxed but attentive as before. It seems the kitchen staff has changed, so the consistency, flavours and quality of food of the main restaurant have massively improved. Unfortunately, the beach did suffer some erosion during the heavy rains of the 2023 winter months, causing parts of it to collapse and wash away. This is a regrettable occurrence, not only for the natural beauty of the area but also for the local fishermen who now face increased challenges during their daily fishing trips. However, despite these changes, the wilderness experience remains unspoiled—the empty golden beach stretches endlessly. We loved it here, and highly recommend the hotel to other travellers."
