FREIgeist Göttingen Nordstadt, A Member of Design Hotels

I stayed with my family for two days this Summer. I can't say that I found Göttingen itself particularly interesting, but FREIgeist Göttingen Nordstadt is a very nice visit. The wive had booked us a "Sundeck Loftsuite", and I can heartily recommend that. Large, open room. Comfortable beds. Lovely sundeck with an excellent view of the sunset. Clean, free parking, excellent dinning experience, and an interesting cocktail menu in the bar, which I unfortunately didn't get a chance to experience. As the description of the hotel says, this is a "design hotel", and I can only agree with that description. The decor of the hotel follows a common theme, and it looks good. Service was fine, and the people in the reception spoke English well. The only two "downsides" I can really point to with the hotel, are: 1) Location. It's not badly situated if you want a hotel that's relatively easily accessible from the Autobahn. But if you want to go into the center of the town, to visit the pedestrian area, you will have a bit of a walk, unless you take your car. Don't get me wrong. It's an entirely manageable walk, but it's along a large busy road, and it's not a 5 min. walk. 2) If you are traveling with a kid that goes to bed before you do, and who need to use the sofa that folds out into a double-bed, be aware that you are all sharing the same room. If the weather's good, you can of course just go out onto the sundeck, and sit there with your partner. But if you have to be inside, and in the room for half the evening, do consider how well your kid sleeps if you have the light on, and are talking. And do be aware that you will probably be sitting in the bed. In other words, I'd love to stay at the hotel another time, but without our son ;-) A little tip, concerning the breakfast. The hotel has an excellent breakfast, but it is a bit pricy. If you want to save a bit of cash on that, there's a supermarket (Lidl) within a few minutes walking distance. You can get some breakfast from there for a fraction of the cost. Won't be as good, but it will be cheaper. Also, if you don't want to eat at the restaurant in the hotel (which is good!), there's also a little greek style restaurant nearby which is OK. It's not fancy, but it's an alternative.

We love the Freigeist Hotels and have stayed many times Air conditioned rooms would make the rooms perfect, especially in the hot summers that we have recently had
