Sheep Mountain Lodge

We stayed 2 nights at Sheep Mountain Lodge, my hustband, my son and I. We had the best stay. We had a Premium cabin and it was better than we expected, the beds was really comfy and the porch with the chairs was perfect with a beautiful view. The staf was wonderful, easy to talk to and really helpful. The resturant had the best food for morning, lunch and dinner. We went on a helikopter ride with the owner Mark out to Matanuska glacier and it was an experience of a lifetime - we were the only ondes out there and Mark gave us time enough to walk on the glacier and he took pictures of us for memoires. What a wonderful place to stay or stop for a great meal! We only spent one night in their very comfortable and gorgeous cabins, but it was fantastic! A beautiful setting with so many options if you want to hike or take a helicopter ride. The restaurant served some of the best food we ate during our entire 10 days of traveling in Alaska. Highly recommend!

Excellent stay at Sheep Mountain Lodge. The entire property is very well maintained, and the beds were comfortable. We stayed in the mountain house, and really enjoyed our stay. The mountain house is large enough for a family to have space, and has really amazing views out of the windows - front windows and porch have nice mountain views, other windows have nice views of flowers and nature. We liked that there was nice seating area on the front porch, and also a large common spaces with comfortable couches inside when the weather got a bit colder. Staying in the house we had the option to cook for ourselves or enjoy the property restaurant a few steps away. Restaurant food was very good, and an easy place to pick up a morning latte -- and the most amazing fresh oatmeal cookies! We also did the lodge's summer ATV and gold panning tour. The ATV tour was a lot of fun (our guide was great) and we had fun learning how gold panning works! Also, Lodge is conveniently located near the Matanuska glacier - so we were able to a tour to walk on the toe of the glacier as well. The Lodge also has helicopter tours to the glacier - looked like fun, we just ran out of time at this trip. We would definitely stay at Sheep Mountain Lodge again when in Alaska.

An excellent place to stay. The cabin was spotless and perfect in every way! The check in is at the restaurant which by the way is also a great place to eat! Be sure to book an ATV tour or a helicopter ride. We would really like to return were some day!

We stayed at Sheep Mountain Lodge for two nights in June, 2024 and enjoyed our stay. The cabins are first-class with everything we needed including full kitchen, plenty of hot water and fans. We ate several meals at the restaurant and enjoyed the food. We hiked the trails on the property. We saw moose in the area but did not see any on the property during our hikes. The locals say the moose are like squirrels in that area. We were close to Matanuska Glacier and the Twin Lakes Area. We would definitely stay here again.

I’ve done day trips to the area many times. Stayed overnight. Absolutely fabulous experience. The service is superb, prices very reasonable, clean, comfortable, and beautiful. The owners are involved and great people. Amazing experience. Wonderful overnight stay. While there, do whatever it takes to schedule a helicopter tour, one of the best experiences of your life, guaranteed. Landing on the glacier is a wonderful experience.

We wanted to explore east of Anchorage. This was great home base for our touring and hiking. Stayed three nights. Terrific quiet, private modern cabin and view with full kitchen! The restaurant’s food was outstanding. Wonderful owners!!

I imagine many people stop at the lodge for a lunch or dinner when they are driving Glenn Hwy. Everyone should consider staying at least a night or two, as there is a lot to do in the area. Hiking, rafting, glacier tours, flight seeing, etc. Helicopter tours launch right from the property. Other types of flight craft are available nearby. With enough elevation, you can see the Chugach, Talkeetna, Wrangell, and Alaskan Mountain Ranges, all at once. My family of six stayed in the Mountain House for three nights. It was spacious and comfortable, with plenty of hot water for showers after our excursions. We ate dinner at the lodge all three times and enjoyed every meal. We took advantage of the trails on the property and the nearby Old Nelchina Trail. All staff were welcoming and friendly.

We have had lunch at Sheep Mountain Lodge in the past traveling to and from a family cabin on Lake Susanna, but never stayed there. So glad that changed this summer. Mark (proprietor and all around handyman) and his crew bring the Sheep Mountain area alive, with their rich local knowledge and warm hospitality. We had a nice 3 night stay in one of their basic cabins, delicious breakfasts and dinners. Best sourdough pancakes ever! Wanted to give them 4.5 stars rather than 4 but the TA system just allows whole numbers.
