This hotel is fabulously placed in the Otter Valley amongst stunning countryside. The hotel itself appears to be very well organised, putting the customers at the heart of it all. Most of all I liked the attention to sustainability, including a really interesting kitchen garden and amazing toiletries. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and the food was absolutely delicious, such an interesting menu. We stayed in the Hayloft which was massive and very comfortable, with a roll top bath and the largest waterfall shower head I’ve ever seen. The only quibble was when we needed to charge our Tesla and the staff member on reception couldn’t provide the right connector. Apparently they are there somewhere. But overall a wonderful place to celebrate our silver wedding.

We had a beautiful evening last night to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. A lovely meal on the patio Terrace. Food was excellent and the staff attention was 2nd to none. We then went over to the Folly where a solo guitarist was performing to a good size crowd. Finally sat and watched the sunset over the hills. Beautiful evening.

I rarely write reviews, but after our visit to The Pig at Combe last Saturday, I simply had to. Having visited The Pig in the Forest last year and leaving a little underwhelmed, our expectations this time were modest — but how gloriously wrong we were! From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel entirely at home. A charming and welcoming gentleman greeted us warmly and led us to the beautiful library room, where we enjoyed appetisers and aperitifs in front of the fire — the perfect start. We were then shown through to the restaurant, where the “shabby chic” style works effortlessly in their favour. Nathan looked after us for the evening, and his personality, attentiveness, and knowledge were simply outstanding. The sommelier, though a touch more reserved than the rest of the team, was nonetheless highly professional and offered excellent recommendations. The restaurant manager was an exceptional host — gliding calmly between tables, orchestrating his team with quiet confidence, and setting a wonderful tone throughout the evening. The menu is simple in concept but exceptional in execution. Every plate showcased beautiful, seasonal ingredients and clever flavour combinations. We savoured every bite, particularly the scallops and the summer pudding, both of which were faultless. We finished the evening in the lounge with coffee and “piggy fours” (a delightful touch) and enjoyed a wonderful conversation with Sergio. My friend, who has worked in London hospitality for many years, remarked on just how rare it is to create such an effortlessly warm and professional atmosphere — all the more impressive given how busy the evening was. Guests were everywhere, yet the team remained friendly, unflustered, and utterly charming. If I had to mention one drawback, it would be the prices, which we felt were slightly on the higher side. That said, the quality of the experience and the outstanding staff more than made up for it. A truly memorable evening — we will certainly be back.

We went as a family for a special dinner on a Sunday evening. Have been before when last on holiday so had high expectations! Still a stunning location but good not so good! Menu not that inspiring - and food very average. Fried vegetable fritter that was bland and hard to eat, porchetta with burnt crackling, petit fours that were very odd and very expensive - and only two varieties, not the four implied. Some of the food was ok, but general standard was a let down tbh. Other guests were a real mixture of families but also some very intolerant older couples who seemed to just want to scowl all evening, despite very well behaved children on all tables. Great shame. Don’t think we will be back again.

Lovely food and lovely staff but so overstretched. Why do you allow The Folly to get so full when you don’t have enough staff? Lots of people getting cross because it’s all taking so long. Not a nice atmosphere. Just put up a “full” sign or get some more staff in? We won’t be returning.

After hearing so many wonderful things about The Pig, my partner and I were excited to visit for what we hoped would be a lovely evening. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of expectations. Upon arrival, it took around 10 minutes before we were seated. Once at our table, we were offered still or sparkling water — we requested still, but it never arrived. We then waited a further 20 minutes before our order was taken, though our drinks did arrive promptly afterward. However, after an hour at the restaurant, our food had yet to appear. Watching guests who arrived after us being served first was frustrating. Eventually, a kind member of staff checked in and was surprised to hear we still hadn’t received our meals. We were then asked to re-order. Thankfully, the food arrived shortly after, but by that point, our appetite for dessert had been replaced by disappointment. Throughout the entire visit, we received very little acknowledgment from staff, apart from that one helpful interaction. No one came to clear our plates or offer anything further, and when we eventually got up to pay, the lack of engagement was noticeable. Sadly, the poor service overshadowed the evening, and we won’t be returning.

Just return from evening dining with fiends, very disappointed, the concept might have been well intentioned but I’m afraid you have sold your soul to the masses. Good luck

Absolutely beautiful place. Probably one of the nicest places we have stayed. So quirky, lots of nice touches ,beautiful grounds and gardens. The food is outstanding and all locally sourced. The people that work here are so helpful and friendly. Shout out to Will one of the managers who couldn't do enough for us. Loved every second and we will be back

This truly special place never fails to deliver. Stunning location and setting, great main room and terrace. Excellent service - attentive, professional, and friendly staff. The food was delicious, with standouts being the lamb, the sea bass, and the Piggy fours. (Two small issues: both starters were over-salted and the beans were stringy.) All wines were great too. But other recent reviewers have a point as regards pricing - it is eye-wateringly expensive here. However, the out of season lunch deals are a bargain, so we’ll stick with those!
