Property Description
Escape to Camp McGu, a gorgeous log home with a magical lakefront setting in Monteagle's Clifftops, minutes from world-class hiking, the University of the South, South Cumberland State Park, Fall Creek Falls, and The Caverns. Situated on five private acres, the home has three fireplaces, an outdoor pizza oven, multiple outdoor seating areas and comes with three boats - two hybrid stand-up paddle boards and kayaks and one peddle boat. Camp McGu's (mick-goo) well-stocked, modern kitchen recently won the regional "Best Design" award from Wolfe appliances and is completely equipped to meet all your needs, with mixing bowls, pots, pans, utensils, griddle, blender, waffle maker, ice cream maker, pie pans, food processor and everything else you might need to prepare a perfect cabin meal. For coffee lovers, we have both French presses and a drip coffee maker, as well as a coffee bean grinder. The spacious bedrooms are beautifully appointed for your comfort. The bedroom on the main floor opens to the back deck with fireplace and has a wall-mounted television. The second floor bedroom has a queen bed and access to the full bathroom on that floor. As well, there is a desk and sitting area in the lofted second floor that includes a single-sized futon for another guest. On the lower level is a bunk bed that accommodates five people, a full bathroom, and a TV area. Outside, the huge deck is perfect for enjoying the views, watching the wildlife, and using the grill or smoker. Down at the lakeside gazebo and large dock, relax in an Adirondack chair, launch a boat, or fish for giant catfish. The Clifftops community is equipped with a pool, a beach club, tennis and pickleball courts, a playground and numerous hiking trails, all of which you'll have access to as a Camp McGu guest. * For people who are looking for a romantic getaway, Camp McGu makes it easy to unwind by one of the three fireplaces, sit on the expansive wrap-around deck, nap in the hammock or relax dockside for sunset. * For families with kids interested in hiking, biking, climbing, cave exploration, swimming, and more, the Sewanee-Monteagle area and South Cumberland State Park are great destinations. The Perimeter Trail around Sewanee is fabulous for hikes and mountain biking. The Mountain Goat Trail is a paved "rails to trails" mixed-use walking, biking, and running trail connecting Sewanne-Monteagle-Tracy City. Fiery Gizzard, Foster Falls, and Bigfoot Adventures are all within 15 minutes. At Camp McGu, we also have a tree pod, a ninja line, and a variety of board games perfect for family nights around the table. * For music lovers, The Caverns Amphitheater venue in Pelham is just 20 minutes away. In March 2018, Bluegrass Underground began performances in its new home, the Caverns, at the foot of Monteagle Mountain. The Caverns is a full-fledged music venue hosting performances year-round. Several of these concerts will air across the nation on PBS channels. * For golfers and tennis players, Sewanee has a wonderfully unique and challenging nine-hole/18-tee golf course with great views. Sweetens Cove (ranked by Golfweek as the 21st best course in the U.S. you can play) is just 45 minutes away. Clifftops has numerous tennis and pickleball courts, and there is a pickleball set for four people at the house. * For lake lovers, you'll need to go no further than Camp McGu for kayaking, SUPing, peddle boating, fishing and swimming. Other lakes nearby include Tims Ford Lake, Nickajack Lake, Normandy Lake, and Woods Reservior. Camp McGu was an ideal setting for my family of 5 to enjoy a fall getaway. The home itself is stunning, clean, and comfortable. It is very tastefully decorated. We spent most of our time enjoying the many outdoor spaces. My kids (10, 14 and 17) kayaked, paddle boarded, conquered the ninja line, fished off the dock, and read in the hammocks. Short excursions to Tracey City to hike the Fiery Gizzard and to Sewanee to tour the campus and eat at Judith were also part of the immense fun we had at Camp McGu. We hope to return.

We also enjoyed the community pool and tennis courts. The location is perfect. The house is very clean and comfortable. We hope to be back many times in the future.

We had a great stay at Camp McGu. Stayed with four adults and four kids and had plenty of hangout space for all inside and out. The house was clean, comfortable, and was the perfect space for us to hang out and relax with just the right amount of fun things to do. We loved that there were bikes to use, hiking and waterfalls nearby, and pickleball courts. Elizabeth was very easy to communicate with. We would definitly stay again. The kitchen is fully stocked too if you like to cook.

This place was so fun for us, our 3 kids and dogs. Endless fishing time, frog catching and kayak/paddle boarding. Not only did they have everything but it was all very comfortable and nice. The inside and outside furniture was great. The house was very clean and easy to be comfortable in. They also have the perfect amount of toilet paper, paper towel, cleaning supplies and all the little extras you usually have to bring/buy. They also supply beach towels that are very nice. The host was great and responds quickly. I would recommend driving a little extra to the Walmart/kroger about 25-30 min away versus piggly wiggly.
