The best place in the UK for honeymoon, scenic view of Ely Cathedal from the yard of hotel, and fireplace is usable!!

For our anniversary, my wife and I recently visited Ely. We spent a lovely 4 nights at The Old Hall and can confirm its reputation as an idyllic family run hotel. The building itself is has been lovingly restored and sits in beautiful grounds, surrounded by country side. It is sited for easy travelling to various places on the visitors trail. Our en-suite room was delightful, with a clear view of Ely cathedral just 2 miles away. All the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. Breakfast choices were plentiful and of good quality. The Orangery restaurant is only open on certain days but we did enjoy a lovely dinner there on our last night. All in all we can highly recommend that you stay here on your visit to Ely. As an aside Oliver Cromwell’s mother was born here when it was a farm house.

What a beautiful place! Outstanding hotel set in amazing gardens overlooking Ely Cathedral. Our third visit, and our room on the second floor with balcony had a spectacular view over the lakes and gardens. Spotless with every amenity you would want. All staff, including the gardeners, were welcoming and helpful - special mention of Lewis. We had breakfast each day - high quality food with excellent selection. We hope to return soon.

The rooms are gorgeous, the setting is totally picturesque. The hosts were super friendly and helpful. A superb atmosphere too, in fact it was so relaxing we missed breakfast for both days we stayed! This was removed firm our bill too! In the evening we had the grazing boards which were scrumptious! We look forward to staying again and trying the a la carte menu.

Didn’t stay but went for Sunday lunch; chose the roast on offer. How can you fail with a simple roast they did; no flavour/taste in the meat and when noted to the server was told “thats your opinion”and as no one else had complained so there was no problem. The setting is great the service and food are definitely not- save your money!

We were looking for somewhere to celebrate a double birthday and the Old Hall was perfect, offering old world charm with service that was not intrusive. We stayed in the Cromwell, which was bigger than a lot of flats and it certainly added a sense of luxury to our stay. You may need a hand up to get on to the four poster bed, boy was it high! Dinner, candlelit, was served in the orangery, and was a set price based on the number of course but choice was a bit limited and some came with supplements which we felt were high for what they were. Overall however the food was good and it was a lovely meal overlooking the gardens. The gardens themselves are beautifully landscaped and worth a wonder with areas to sit and enjoy the complimentary afternoon tea in bone china cups. Overall a great stay and happy to recommend

Stayed for 1 night to break a journey. The room was absolutely beautiful - interesting layout, wonderful attention to detail in terms of furniture and decoration and an incredibly comfortable bed. The service was both friendly and professional. The set up gives you the feeling of being a guest in someone’s wonderful house rather than staying in a hotel - something I really liked. Definitely somewhere I would happily return to and stay for longer.
