If you venture to Dunkeld, the Atholl Arms and Z’s Bistro is the place to stay and eat. Tip: order the local Perthshire Steak Pie, yum. Before dinner make sure to have a beverage across the street at the Atholl Garden Terrace. Beautiful setting on the banks of the river Tay. The wait staff was absolutely wonderful. David welcomed us by showing us around and made our dinner reservations. Alyx working the Garden was so welcoming making our afternoon a fun experience. She loves Boston, so we became Thundah Buddies! Dillon and Martine were an attentive team making our dinner great. And Yvonne took care of us during breakfast, she was wonderful. She recommended the Birnam Wood (short walk from hotel), Beatrix Potter Gardens (short drive from hotel) and Iain Burnett Highland Chocolatier factory (15-20 minute drive) local gems we would have missed. Note if a 20 minute drive is too far luckily Iain Burnett has a shop in Dunkeld.

Stopped in Dunkeld for a break and a bite to eat; we fancied the Atholl arms due to the setting and the terrace by the river. We ordered a seafood basket to share and our young daughter chose chicken nuggets. Well when the food came I knew we’d been well overcharged! The seafood basket was £26 for a small piece of battered fish, a handful of chips, two tempura prawns, a few bits of scampi and the same of calamari. It certainly wasn’t worth what they charged, food was just ok, I’ve had worse. Our daughter received five chicken nuggets and a few chips, and we were charged £10! Drinks were £4 each for soft drinks. I wasn’t surprised to be honest as this is standard for Scottish eating establishments that cater for tourists that are passing through and it’s why I’d never holiday in Scotland. I regularly visit Northumberland and the Lake District where you’re tripping over good eating establishments.

Great location, friendly, helpful team, safe car park. Enjoy the view of the river while having breakfast or chill out by the river having a drink or coffee at their bar by the river. Lovely recently decorated rooms. Slightly steep staircase to second floor. Bistro good tasty food Definitely one to revisit

Had a meal from this hotel and it was quite clearly heated up in the microwave. We ordered steak pie and mash for my wife, and i had steak pie and chips. The steak was warm ( at best) on the outside and cold on the inside. The mash had to be cut with a knife as if it was a boiled potato, obviously kept in the fridge and heated in the microwave. We complained to the waiter who took our plates and did nothing. He ignored us as we left. We left a comment on their Facebook page and it got deleted and they blocked me from making any further comment. Will never eat at this place again, and will definitely have doubts about stating there.

Amazing food in Z Bistro. Brilliant service. If you have any dietary requirements then please go here. Attentive without the dreaded negotiation and explanation. Knowledgeable staff, freshly prepared, seasonal, local food. Prepared with obvious love and attention. Exceptional and highly recommend!!!! Five stars not enough

Had a Sunday lunch the vegetables and Yorkshire puddings were lovely. Beef was tasty but chewy. Drinks expensive but beautiful setting. However very poor customer service. Wait staff lacked proper customer service skills. Definitely need to try and improve in this area. Will try next door Tay bank when visiting dunkled next time .

Just wow - booked a couple of nights away for me and my hubby after illness and we couldn't have picked a more perfect getaway. The staff here really know what customer service is and we can't praise them enough - especially Aniko on reception, Zsolt the owner and his wife Edit who does a top job in housekeeping and designing all the rooms. The master suite was huge, luxurious and comfortable with views of the River Tay and the hotels fabulous garden, which during the summer months is the perfect spot for al fresco dining, sometimes with live music to add to the ambience and charm. Breakfast was relaxed in the main restaurant and was beautifully cooked and the waitress was extremely attentive. The lounge was comfortable and welcoming where we enjoyed a few drinks and relaxing music. We ate in the bistro both nights where the food was delicious and served with a smile from the friendly staff. Everything about the Atholl Arms Hotel shows so much attention to detail and eagerness to provide a memorable experience whether you're a hotel guest or a day tripper enjoying the food and drink in the nest setting. Dunkeld is a lovely place with lots of places to walk and enjoy the fabulous Scottish scenery. We walked to the RSPB osprey centre at Loch of the Lowes which was around 45 mins each way at a steady pace and well worth it. Birnam village is a short walk away where the Beatrix Potter centre is.

Family stayed here while visiting. During their visit I organised meeting them outside in the seating area during my work break. The moment I arrived and sat down I was asked to leave despite explaining my family were guests here.I was simply judged based on appearance due to my work uniform/ wealth. Disappointed that other staff also walked past and ignored the situation. I didn't put up an argument or stay I left and instead booked a meal for later that night with family elsewhere. We will not be returning.
Response from Property: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I’m very sorry to hear about your recent experience and that you were left feeling disappointed. However, I would like to clarify that the issue was not related to your uniform or appearance in any way. The reason our manager approached you was due to food and drinks being brought in from outside, which we kindly ask guests and visitors not to consume on the premises. This policy is in place to ensure consistency and fairness for all guests using our facilities. I regret that you felt the need to share your concerns across various channels rather than speaking to us directly at the time, as we always welcome the opportunity to address any issues promptly and personally. We value all our guests and their visitors, and I’m truly sorry that your visit did not reflect the standard of service we aim to provide. If you would like to discuss this further or provide additional feedback, please feel free to contact me directly.

As part of a birthday weekend, we had a meal for 10 people and 2 young adults. It is always pleasurable to be able to declare that the food was splendid, and indeed it proved so. Special thanks to everyone who looked after us, especially Mya, who was the consummate host.

We had a meal in the outside garden adjacent to the river. It’s a beautiful setting for a drink and/or food. The food we had was good but oddly, in our view, the starters and mains all arrived together. I emailed the hotel about this and they said there’s a sign that makes clear all food arrives at the same time. We obviously didn’t notice it. What is strange though, is the menu lists ‘starters’ and ‘mains’. Why do that if all food arrives at once. There is no starter, after all. We also asked for certain dishes as ‘starters’ and ‘mains’ yet the person who took our order didn’t say anything about all the food arriving simultaneously. It undermined what was otherwise good food in a pleasant setting.

We enjoyed a wonderful overnight stay at the Atholl Arms for a mini-break. First class from arriving to departure. Gorgeous room - well equipped, very comfortable, spotlessly clean, spacious, airy and lovely view. Really impressive. Staff friendly & helpful. Fantastic breakfast - made to order and great quality. Highly recommend the Atholl Arms. Looking forward to visiting again sometime!!

We had a one night stay here following our Land Rover Experience earlier in the day and were very impressed by this hotel. We stayed in a junior suite, room number 5, which overlooked the main road but was very quiet. The room has a four poster bed, with good quality linen and pillows, a bath in the middle of the room and a separate seating area. The adjacent bathroom has double wash hand basins and a large walk in shower. Quality toiletries (Arran Aromatics) are supplied along with a nespresso coffee machine and bottled water. Dinner was excellent, served in a very busy restaurant by cheery, good natured staff. Breakfast was also excellent with plenty of everything. This hotel is one of the very nicest we have stayed in! Highly recommended

What was a long-awaited break turned out to be somewhat spoiled by our choice of hotel in Dunkeld. We assumed that a 4 star hotel would provide the basics such as hot water and double glazing. Neither of those were present. On arrival we were told that the room we had booked was being refurbished but we were being upgraded to a junior suite. The suite was spacious and clean featuring a large bath in the middle of the room. It was situated on the first floor and facing the main road through the town. What was immediately apparent was the noise of lorries rumbling past and rattling the windows but we assumed it would be quiet by bedtime. The en suite was spacious and reasonably attractive with double sinks and a large walk-in shower. Unfortunately, after running the hot tap for over 5 minutes the water was at best, tepid. On checking that the electric shower was usable we discovered that it simply was not. An endless wait for the water to become luke-warm meant that the flow had diminished to a trickle. Goodness knows how on earth the huge freestanding bath in the bedroom could ever be filled. Needless to say, we reported this to the management and after two sets of staff attempted to resolve the issue we were left to our own devices. Dinner of 'home made pizza' and 'venison sausages' were at best, average and served in the Bistro instead of the Riverview dining room. Breakfast next morning was served in the pub. The food was not of a quality that the hotel website claimed and definitely not 'award winning'. To be fair, the staff were pleasant and did respond to our requests for assistance but the issue is that they have to deal with a building with antiquated plumbing but a 4 star hotel should be of a standard that meant I didn't have to wait until I got home to have a much-needed shower.
