We secured a last minute booking for Sunday lunch and were not disappointed! Started out with dressed crab and white bait, which came with excellent tartar sauce, followed by outstanding roast beef and roast pork, perfectly cooked vegetables and delicious red wine gravy. A chocolate brownie, lemon posset and Eton mess were our choices for dessert. The mini carafe of Pinot noir was a nice touch, as was the bread with olive oil and balsamic glaze when we sat down. Super service, all in all it has to be one of the best meals we have had in any pub or restaurant.

Thank you so much to you and your fabulous team at the G&D for helping us celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary at our summer party on Saturday. Everything was perfect and I know you all worked very hard to ensure the garden and secret garden looked beautiful as an idyllic backdrop for our renewal of promises. Fantastic food! Amazing lamb and salads; and those spicy fishcakes were truly spectacular! Our guests all remarked how well they were looked after and how all your hard work had obviously paid off so handsomely.

Cannot recommend this place enough . We visited just for drinks and snacks but the food smelled amazing . Staff were extremely Attentive . They even gave us a loft back to our canal boat when we had finished even with a very dirty dog we had with us . Come visit you won't regret it

Spent last night at the G and D with a great evening meal and breakfast. Visiting Devizes for a family re-union in The Bear Hotel and other members stayed at The Bear and The Castle but they would not return. Planning next years re-union which will be in the G and D. Thanks for your hospitality Chippy.

This used to be our treasured place to eat, but not anymore. Menu now very expensive, cookery certainly does not match the price. Service indifferent didn't seem to care when we said we would not return. Chippy (the owner) sell up and move on old chap, you have obviously lost the love for this.

Lovely pub, with a good atmosphere, but I was left underwhelmed at some rather overpriced food. The food was tasty, but the dishes felt rather unfinished, which makes the premium price difficult to justify. For example the Prawns, at £28 for a main course consisted of around 8 prawns in a shallow bisque. Both the prawns and the bisque were delicious, but the dish was crying out for something to mop up said bisque, whether that be bread, chips, or a green salad. Instead one was left with a plate of shells sat in a nice sauce. Equally with the steak for the same price. A nicely cooked piece of steak on a plate of sauce, with some chips in a separate bowl. Again, it just felt to be missing something, some green vegetables, a side salad, something. A shame, because the food was tasty, and clearly expertly cooked, but the presentation needs more thought. The same was true of all the dishes our party had, with the exception of the fish and chips, which were excellent. All in all the food was good, the pub is nice, but more effort is needed to justify what is a very premium pricing strategy.

Warm friendly welcome, great service, very professional, knowledgeable and attentive. Lovely cozy pub with lots of charm, food was outstanding, five star quality ingredients, good price and portions and a good varied choice to suit all. Would recommend if in the area. Easy to miss when driving by, but friends had recommended and we can see why.

Had a wonderful time when I visited in september 2023. Lovely and large room and good food (dinner and breakfast). Very friendly staff. I was wondering if they ever had guests mentioning they heard certain sounds during the night? To be clear: The sound I heard wasn't disturbing at all and I only heard it once. It just made me think to myself: "that is odd, I have to remember this".

Had a lovely 2 night stay here with my wife. Very friendly village pub, with period room, en suite bathroom, all very clean and tidy. A good base for exploring the area, with lots to do nearby. Got roped into playing cards with the locals Monday evening, but sadly missed the quiz the night before. They also do some fantastic seafood, which was very enjoyable. All in all a very nice, friendly place to stay, would definitely go again.
