"We recently stayed at Residence Vue Mer , and overall had a very enjoyable and relaxing experience. The highlight of this property is definitely the view—true to its name, the ocean views are absolutely beautiful and make for a perfect setting to unwind. The location is also great, offering a quiet atmosphere while still being close to Deshaies village, beaches, and local restaurants. The accommodations were clean, comfortable, and well-equipped for a short or extended stay. It felt like a nice balance between independence and having access to support when needed. One thing worth mentioning—on our first night we accidentally tripped a breaker while making toast, but the on-site caretaker responded quickly and had everything resolved in less than 20 minutes. That level of responsiveness was really appreciated and set a positive tone for the rest of our stay. It was also our first time staying somewhere with an al fresco kitchen. At first we were a bit apprehensive with people occasionally walking by while we were dining, but it quickly grew on us and became part of the charm. There’s really nothing like enjoying a morning coffee with the sights and sounds of the surroundings right there—it ended up being one of our favorite parts of the stay. The staff were very friendly throughout our stay, and the pool was a great place to unwind at the end of the day. Guadeloupe itself is truly a beautiful gem, and this stay only added to our appreciation of the island. We will definitely be returning. Overall, I would recommend Residence Vue Mer to anyone looking for a peaceful, scenic stay in Guadeloupe. It’s a great option for travelers who want to relax and enjoy the natural beauty of the island. Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)"

"I spent a couple of nights here at the tail end of a long Caribbean trip. The girl who ran the place was friendly and helpful. Communication (in English) was good beforehand and during my stay. It's located a bit of town. Shops and restaurants next door. A nice beach at walkable distance. You'll need a car to get into town, or to go anywhere for that matter. I wouldn't try and come out here and get around by bus. My room was decent with a kitchen so I could make my own food. I believe there was also a shared kitchen. Common areas seemed nice to hang out in, not that I did."

"We felt that we were a nuisance when we arrived at 1.30 on a Sunday. We knew we were early for checking in but we were hungry and wanted some lunch so we’d kept our luggage in our car so that we could eat. Upon arrival we were told in no uncertain terms that check in wasn’t until 2.00 and when we said we wanted to eat first we were told there were no tables. However somebody left so we took their table. There’s no porterage so we had to struggle down a very steep slope with our luggage, I’m 80 and my disabled friend is 73. My friend asked for a small jug of milk to take to our room as we had brought a kettle plus tea and coffee with us, there being nothing in the room and she was charged €1 for it. One morning we had an early start as we were doing some bird watching and being picked up at 6.45 so we asked for a couple of sandwiches to take with us as we left before the breakfast started and got back after it had finished. We were told No but on departure we’d been charged €12 for it even though we didn’t get it and had paid for bed and breakfast anyway. There were no toiletries in the bathroom just some shower gel in the shower room. Would not recommend even though the grounds are beautiful and well maintained and the rooms are clean with a comfortable bed. Food also very mediocre. We definitely felt they did not like the English and apart from one member of staff, a very nice and helpful gentleman who spoke some English, we were not made to feel at all welcome."

"Nice pool area and a good breakfast. But even as a paying hotel guest they charge you $20,- for a pool towel. Ridiculous… There was no soap nor shampoo in our room and only very limited toilet paper. We had to ask for it. A shame. Wifi in our room wasn’t the best, but we were in the last appartment on the end of the path, so that could explain."

★★★ 9.9 (32 reviews)

"My stay at Piton Bungalows far exceeded my expectations. Valerie & Matthieu could not have been more gracious hosts. They were always available for any of my needs. I had always wanted to live in a tree house and this was the next best thing. The bungalow was open to the elements except for the bedroom which the door could be closed and locked if needed. I kept it open to enjoy the tropical breeze and all the sounds of nature. Be prepared for the sound of crickets and tree frogs in the evening and the roosters very early in the morning. (earplugs are recommended.) I was able to cook most of my meals with all the necessary cooking accessories. The bungalow that I chose was directly above a very nice pool and a view of the ocean, 3 km away at Dehaies. I enjoyed the fact that I could have my breakfast and sometimes my lunch poolside. Beautiful tropical flower arrangements and the ingredients to make Ti Punch, the island rum punch were provided by the hosts. Each bungalow is very private and even though I was above the pool it was not an issue."

"This is a beautiful and very quiet place very close to the beach (about 75 meters). Very clean and comfortable and I recommend that you reserve a room with a terrace so you can enjoy hearing the ocean while relaxing in your hammock. No TV but that adds to the feeling of relaxation. We ordered contintal breakfast (at an extra cost) which was brought to the room and it was really fresh and nice. If you want to go to Deshaies the bus stop is only about 200 meters from the gite (make sure you have the exact fee). Vasco and Sofia are excellent and warm hearted hosts and they can help you with transfer arrangements, recommendations for tours etc. We will definately come back!"

Résidence Vue Mer ★★★★
"We chose Residence Vue Mer as an affordable alternative to the Langley Fort Royal hotel. The hotel has good signage from the main road and is easy to find. Its location is great - at the top of a hill with lovely views in all directions and several swimming pools on the terraces. That said, it is a drive to Des Haies. Within walking distance is Bruno's Pizza and the Jungle bar at the Tropicana Suites. Our room had a covered verandah. The room was simply decorated and had a kitchenette. The bathroom was basic. The shower didn't have a door/curtain and there wasn't a tray or dam to keep water inside the cublcle. The supplied towels were small and not the most absorbent. The supplied soap and shower gel were not replenished during our stay. We had access to a pool, shared with the room next door. We were offered breakfast at EUR 12 each, which we declined. We bought a jar of coffee from a supermarket and boiled the kettle in the room and went to the boulangerie in Des Haies. On balance, you get what you pay for. Residence Vue Mer offers unpretentious, comfortable accommodation and we would probably return."

"Perfect location with a gorgeous garden and views. Lovely traditional bedrooms and a fantastic breakfast . Everything here is authentic and a perfect hostess. We love it .We arrived by taxi and used the local buses which were better than we expected and very cheap .Eating and drinking in nearby Ferry was very good but we didn’t rate the nearby Hotel Rayon Vert . Lovely people but poor food . Roger and Sara Mitchell"

"We have had a great stay: the staff is welcome, laughing and attention. The frame is beautifully wooden, the spacious suite with a hamac is a real more, and the cabins and lounge room bring an original and pleasant touch is the cherry on the cake. However, great disappointment at breakfast: at this price level it is hard to accept to ask us to wait 15 minutes due to egg break, jam, No orange juice (however the base) ... We have not seen the promised crepes minutes."

Piton Bungalows Ecolodges ★★★
"We enjoyed an incredible week in March 2024 at Ecolodge Piton Bungalows and we’d highly recommend this lovely bungalow-style hotel to anyone. My daughter and I stayed in the Zen Lodge with its own hot tub. The open-air kitchen, dining and living area made for easy breakfast and snack preparation or reading/relaxing in the hammock and enjoying the views. At 300m, there was always a nice breeze to mitigate the heat and humidity of Guadeloupe. The bed was very comfortable and we used the mosquito netting (but didn’t really notice any mosquitos) and the shower was lovely as was the swimming pool. The free washing machine and dryer helped to dry towels and swimsuits quickly after a day at the beach. The location is perfect, up a curvy hill about 2.5 km from the Plage de Grande Anse, one of the most spectacular beaches in Guadeloupe, from where there is an easy hike to the adjacent Plage de la Perle, nearly deserted the day we swam there. Valérie kindly lent us snorkeling gear and she and Matthieu had helpful tips to make our stay extra memorable. We really enjoyed “Basse-Terre” and mostly stayed within about 40 km of our gîte because there is just so much to do in that part of Guadeloupe. We really enjoyed our boat excursion with Blue Lagoon including snorkeling and the mangrove tour, our kayaking and snorkeling adventure at the Réserve Cousteau (we rented kayaks from Kristal Kayak at Plage de Malendure), our visit to the thermal baths in Bouillante, the Jardin Botanique in Deshaies, the waterfall swimming hole at Cascade aux Écrevisses, and a hike on Grande-Terre at Pointe de la Grande Vigie. The food was wonderful, whether we went to an open-air beach cafe, a food truck or a finer restaurant. Of particular note for unforgettable dining were “La Kaz du douanier” in Deshaies and “L’Exotic brefort Lamentin guadeloupe” in Lamentin. It is pretty essential to have a rental car to get around, and we speak French (although we’re American), which was very helpful although some Guadeloupéens have working knowledge of English. Frankly it was refreshing not to encounter many Americans. Guadeloupe is not overrun with tourists although some beaches and parking lots were busy, but you don’t encounter the “all-inclusive” resort/Spring Break party types at all in this wonderful French “département outre-mer.”"
