The best decision I made on this trip to Datong was choosing the Hidden Alley Homestay! It's located in an alley next to Kuixing Tower, offering a tranquil escape from the bustling city. You can walk to Daiwang Mansion and the Nine Dragon Screen in just 10 minutes, making it incredibly convenient for exploring the ancient city. The room was surprisingly spacious and clean, and the quality of the bedding was truly impressive. They even have a dedicated audio-visual room for movie nights, which made for a very enjoyable evening. The hot water in the bathroom was excellent, and the room itself was full of thoughtful details. The front desk staff was also incredibly warm and professional. They called me in advance to ask about my itinerary and shared some very practical travel tips. The local food and drinks they recommended were delicious too. Plus, there's a free parking lot, which is great for those traveling by car. That's why I extended my stay for another day! Next time I visit Datong with my parents, I'll definitely choose this place again. I've already recommended it to friends who are planning a trip to Datong – it's truly a hidden gem!

The second time I came to Datong, because it was the Dragon Boat Festival, I booked this hotel with the idea of booking first and then looking at other hotels. It should be the latest room to stay in. The store contacted in advance to inform the surrounding food and asked for the details of the stay in advance. There are many homestays in the ancient city wall of Datong, because I have traveled to other cities and stayed in homestays before, and my family has a bad impression of the homestay. But this time, I was really surprised. First of all, let’s talk about hygiene. The room was not cleaned before we checked in. We waited for a while in the yard. The beautiful boss made tea for us and took small snacks. After 5 hours of boating and car work, it was really warm. After the room was cleaned up, the boss personally checked it twice. He went in barefoot to check it, and every detail was not missed. The facilities are very good, all are smart, and direct drinking water is very convenient. The child likes the environment on the negative floor very much, so we lived in negative one, caught up with the tail of the holiday, the upstairs was almost full, and there was our family on negative one. The next day we slept until we woke up naturally and there was no noise. The homestay is at the foot of the city wall, and there is a scenic shuttle bus not far behind the house. It is very convenient to go to various attractions. It is very comfortable to bathe in the morning sun outside the campus. I hope it has been so good and will stay again next time.

Navigation led us into the underground parking garage, making parking convenient; the guesthouse entrance was right next to our parking spot. The lobby is stylishly designed, with the exquisite grotto murals directly opposite immediately catching my eye – perfect for photos. The rooms were clean and hygienic. The receptionist was incredibly welcoming, waiting to greet us early and handling check-in efficiently and quickly. She also introduced us to the hotel's facilities and nearby restaurants. Her professional and patient answers made us feel right at home. Our booked room was a tatami room, bathed in sunlight, perfect for enjoying a peaceful moment. In the morning, we saw Shanhua Temple right in front of us, and a short walk north brought us to Sipailou. There are many attractions and restaurants nearby, close to places like the Drum Tower and Zini 369, making sightseeing and dining very convenient. This stay was perfect; both the service and the facilities exceeded our expectations, and we would definitely choose this guesthouse again.

So, I picked one with unique traditional Chinese characteristics, and it completely exceeded my expectations. The breakfast was exactly to my liking – nutritious and light. The room was warm and cozy, and the toiletry kit was amazing, with thoughtful items inside. Even though it's been in the ancient city for ten years, the decor and renovation show no sign of age; it's incredibly well-maintained. The housekeeper mentioned they had just upgraded all the rooms before my arrival, haha! 😄 This guesthouse truly helped my restless mind calm down. It felt like staying in a museum. The aunties and housekeepers working here told me stories about every single object and corner, which deeply moved me. This is what a guesthouse should be – unpretentious and full of stories. The biggest surprise this time was having the chance to meet the owner, a wonderful lady. She was so nice, I initially thought she was just another staff member; she had absolutely no airs. More importantly, her experiences and background are incredible – she does extreme sports and has even climbed Mount Everest! Talking with her made me feel so comfortable and helped me let go of a lot of things. Thank you for the encounter; it was truly destiny. This was the most unexpected gain from my trip to Datong, and I will definitely go back if I get the chance! It felt just like home, with no sense of unfamiliarity whatsoever.

Booked this hotel and had a fantastic time in Datong! The location is superb, really convenient for dining. You're practically right next to Zini, Longjuxiang, and Fenglingge. During the summer holidays, it was quite busy, so we'd grab a number and head back to the hotel to relax while waiting – very comfortable. It was also easy to get around; we could walk to Huayan Temple, Guandi Temple, and several other ancient city attractions in about five minutes. For places further out, getting a taxi right outside was also fine. The decor is very antique and charming, and the cleanliness was good! Despite being within the ancient city walls, it was genuinely quiet, and I'm very satisfied~

Located within the ancient city, it was very convenient. It was raining when I went, and I was planning to visit Wutai Mountain later, so the receptionist even helped me check if Wutai Mountain was closed. Because I had a lot of luggage, she helped me carry it all to my room and even brought me some washed fruit. I loved the interior design; it was bright and spacious with a traditional Chinese style, and the whole room was controlled by Xiao Ai (a smart speaker). The shower water was very hot, and although it opened in 2025, the facilities were complete. Since I was traveling with an elderly person and my dog, the receptionist helped me carry my luggage to the car after I checked out! This was a great start to my Shanxi trip—I'll definitely stay here again next time I'm in Datong! P.S. The cats are all so cute!

Temporarily decided to stay in Datong Ancient City and chose the newly opened Furen Residential B&B. It is very close to the taxi drop-off point, and it takes a few steps to walk there. I have never lived in such a room type before, and I have a little bit of a cockroach at the beginning. But the experience is very good, the air is good and quiet. My child and I are very satisfied. There is an elevator to the room, there is a heated towel rack, coffee machine, mini bar in the room. When I checked in, I sent a personable Buddha companion, and the child was so happy! It is not far from the homestay to the central areas such as the Kaige Restaurant in Southeast Shanghai and Huayan Temple, and it is just a short walk away. It is also very close to the city wall. Butler Xiaolan is also very enthusiastic. I heard that I immediately gave me cold medicine because I had a cold temperature difference in Yungang. thank you very much! A small problem is that the bedside lamp can be fixed on the wall, and it is easy to hit the head.
