I visited Datong this week and stayed at the Meijing Heyang Hotel. From the outside, the hotel looks unremarkable, but after checking in, there were many highlights that impressed me: The service was attentive and thoughtful, and the staff were warm and patient with guests. The lobby always had several types of tea available, and in addition to standard toiletries, the room also provided laundry detergent, skincare products, and hand cream. It's clear they pay great attention to detail for their guests, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The rooms were clean, and housekeeping was prompt and thorough. The facilities were well-arranged, making for a very comfortable stay. Furthermore, I noticed over these past few days that the hotel was almost fully booked every day, which speaks volumes about its mature operations and professional, dedicated staff. The only minor drawback was that the bathroom vanity was a bit too low, making it slightly inconvenient for washing up. If it could be raised a bit in the future, the stay would be even more perfect.

On my trip to Datong, I booked a stay at the Howard Johnson Jindi Plaza Datong, located right by the ancient city, through Trip.com. It's rated 5 stars online, and it truly lives up to the hype! As soon as I checked in, I was upgraded for free to a deluxe business suite. It was my first time seeing a suite with a dining table big enough to host over 10 friends and family. After one night, I switched back to my originally booked business king room. The king room was also incredibly comfortable, measuring a spacious 62 square meters. Opening the curtains revealed views of Datong's streets. If you walk to the end of the corridor, you can even see a panoramic view of the ancient city of Datong. What truly stands out is the fantastic Chinese restaurant at this 5-star hotel. I stayed in Datong for three days, and除了one lunch I had in Hunyuan Ancient City, all my other five lunches and dinners were enjoyed at the hotel's Chinese restaurant. Here, a bowl of Shanxi's specialty knife-cut noodles is only 6 RMB, and a bowl of cold noodles, even tastier than those in Hunyuan, is just 3 RMB. You can order half portions of shumai, and during the first dog days of summer, they even had dumplings. I tried the braised deer tendon with scallions, something I'd never had before, and it was superb, as were the husband and wife lung slices and jellyfish salad – perfect with drinks. Dining here is delicious and affordable. If you top up 200 RMB, you even get a complimentary plate of Shanxi's signature 'guoyourou' (fried pork in sauce). A huge shout-out also goes to the restaurant staff. They are warm, thoughtful, and genuinely care for guests, even advising against ordering too much, ensuring just the right amount! In summary, I give a 5-star rating to both the hotel and the F&B department. The last photo is of the hotel's breakfast, which was also excellent. The hotel has two breakfast restaurants, so even with many guests, it never feels crowded!

Facilities: The facilities are excellent, with smart home controls for everything – curtains, lights, TV, alarm clock, all powered by Tmall Genie. Everything looks quite new. Cleanliness: The hygiene was okay, but I'm not sure if it was an allergy specific to Datong or something else, but after one night, my nose felt itchy and I kept sneezing. It got much better after I turned on the air conditioning. Environment: The hotel's internal environment is good. It's about 2-3 kilometers from the ancient city, which is a comfortable bike ride away. The hotel also has slow-charging stations, so if you're driving, you can charge your car overnight. We just went directly into the ancient city for meals. Service: The service attitude was very good.

The location is absolutely fantastic, right in the heart of the ancient city. For dining: Xi Jin Dao is downstairs, Fenglin Pavilion is a 10-minute walk, and Long Juxiang offers delivery directly to your phone. Every time we took a taxi back to the inn, we'd get off at Huayan Hotel and walk two minutes. The popular Heshengcai is a 10-minute walk (though the taste was just so-so, and none of the pastries even had an ingredient list). For sights: Huayan Temple is a 5-minute walk. I visited Shanhua Temple at night, which was about a 15-minute walk. During the May Day holiday, there were only about 10 people in the entire temple at night, so we could enjoy a peaceful visit. On the way back and forth, we also saw the city wall's light show and passed through a lantern festival. Rumeng Datong (Dreams of Datong) was also within walking distance. Service was great too. On our last day, we had to leave for the train station at 7:30 AM, and the owner even packed breakfast for us. The lamb offal soup with vermicelli every morning was delicious. The furniture is all elm wood. The loft family room was perfect for our family of three. The only downsides were that the room rate was expensive during May Day, and the bathroom design was a bit impractical.

We stayed here with our child, and the hotel's location is excellent. It's very close to the East Gate of the ancient city, and if you walk south from the hotel, there are many small eateries. The interior environment is clean and tidy, and the facilities are very functional. The sleeping environment is great, quiet with no noise, and the bedding is comfortable. The service attitude is superb; they genuinely care about guests and provide many conveniences and benefits.

I chose this hotel primarily because of its location right next to Datong Ancient City, offering great views and convenient access. It also has a parking lot, and the restaurant's dishes are quite distinctive with a good variety of choices. Although breakfast was average and lacked variety, it was nutritionally balanced and met basic needs. Overall, the hotel's location and the scenic views were what we were most satisfied with. Environment: Located in an old neighborhood in Pingcheng District, it is relatively quiet and has a good geographical location. It is located in the southwest corner outside the ancient city of Datong. It costs less than 8 yuan to take a taxi to the Qingyuan Gate of the ancient city. When you go out of the B&B and turn north to cross an intersection, you will reach Yunjinhui and Zini 369, which are convenient for dining and gatherings. Not far to the east is the starting station of Bus Company 4. You can take Bus No. 3 directly to the Yungang Grottoes, and it is also convenient to take the bus to the Qingyuan Gate of the ancient city. Service: Satisfactory. The boss also gave me a small gift package during the National Day. Due to the rush of the trip, I didn't take any pictures of the indoor facilities, but compared to the level of a B&B, it's still very good. Compared with the prices of big hotels, the price/performance ratio here is really good.

Had a fantastic stay! We booked the 'sky-light room,' which was very quiet, allowing us to sleep soundly until morning. The front desk attendant was incredibly warm and helpful; she brought ice packs for my wife's sprained ankle and even lent us a charging cable. The guesthouse is conveniently located directly across from the old town city wall entrance, where you can climb up for free to enjoy panoramic views of the ancient city.

The hotel has a very artistic and modern style, and the rooms are comfortable with a well-designed layout. It features smart home technology throughout, and the bathroom has a wet/dry separation. They even offer complimentary cocktails and in-room drinks. Being newly opened, all the facilities are brand new. The staff were very enthusiastic and upgraded my room, giving me more space. Any requests I had were promptly addressed. The breakfast was quite comprehensive and had everything you'd expect. I would definitely choose this hotel again.
