Dining: The hotel restaurant is noted for offering delicious local dishes, with breakfast and dinner experiences that shouldn't be missed. Dining with scenic views adds to the charm, although some guests suggest improvements in breakfast variety.

We booked this hotel in January and had been looking forward to our two night stay on our drive back to Santander for the ferry to Plymouth but it has been amongst the most disappointing stays we have ever had in a hotel. To begin with, the satnav couldn't find the hotel and whilst that was not the hotel's fault, when we booked we had asked for directions to the nearest car park but never received a reply. Check-in was straightforward and the receptionist was helpful, the room was ok and it did have a fabulous view. The problems started when we tried to log-in to the internet which proved to be a tedious and hit-and-miss process. We eventually logged in to the slowest wi-fi we have experienced for long time but even that failed completely around 10.00pm and did not reappear until the following morning. Throughout the night, there was an intermittent banging (possibly a door or window?), it stopped about 7:30am, probably when someone properly closed whatever was banging, but it did disturb our sleep. Then we discovered we had no hot water. It transpired that the hotel knew there was a problem but thought it was fixed on the day we checked in - clearly it wasn't. It became clear later in the morning that it wasn't going to be repaired. Being a Saturday, all other hotels in the town were fully booked and the only thing that the hotel could offer us was a hotel 7km from town with a pretty poor rating on Google and Tripadvisor. At that point, we decided to check out and went to our room to pack and find another hotel. About 15 minutes later, we were offered a different room in the hotel but by then we had found a different hotel (at great expense) and had packed. Finally, the breakfast offering was very poor, especially for a Spanish hotel. The quality and range was lacking and the buffet layout was little short of a disaster. The hotel did not charge us for the night's stay and as we said previously, the receptionist did try her best to help, but at 170 euros/night, we had expected much better. Perhaps an example of a hotel resting on its laurels?

Great views If you want amazing views this is the place to stay. We had a small balcony overlooking the gorge. Downside is there is no air con & it was very hot. They provided us with a fan when we requested one. We had dinner on both nights we stayed & the food is excellent. We had reserved a table for our first night when we booked this hotel so we had the best table on the terrace. Amazing views. If you want a terrace table reserve as the terrace is quite small. They gave us the same table the following evening. We had breakfast on the first morning which was not very good. No meat/cheese vegetable laid out. A girl eventually brought out some plates of cling film covered ham & cheese. Some hard boiled eggs that looked like they had been in the fridge for a few days. There were some pastries & fruit. We were the only people at breakfast

We absolutely loved staying at the Hotel Posada San Jose. The views of Cuenca from our room and from the dining room were priceless and so beautiful! The staff was warm and welcoming and very helpful. You step outside of the hotel and you are within walking distance of all of the lovely sites of the historic center of Cuenca. I loved the "old way" of leaving your big room key at the front desk.

Wow! What wonderful value. A superior room gives you magnificent views. Lke world class. It's a historic hotel so the rooms are of course dated but super clean. And The bathrooms are modern and excellent. The owners and staff are super nice. In late March I paid $100 euros. Exceptional value.

Charming, nice views Charming older hotel in the steep streets of old town Cuenca. Beautiful views and nice proprietors. Breakfast was only “so so”. Good restaurant next door for lunch and a good restaurant up a steep hill for breakfast.

Our room was huge, interesting with hand hewn boards, tiles, a huge bathroom and stunning views over the gorge. The night views are even better. There was one woman working most of the time during our two night stay who was beyond kind and helpful. My husband got sick during our stay and she ensured we had everything we needed to make him as comfortable as possible and kindly helped us call a taxi on our check out day. Such amazing history blended with modern convenience.
