If it weren't for the location, I wouldn't have booked this hotel. After all, it's very historic, and even after the renovation, it's not very good. There is no elevator, so it's not suitable for heavy luggage.

My wife and I spent a night here recently when we were unexpectedly in the area, and we had a mixed experience. We checked in rather late (around 10 PM), and the night check-in clerk/manager was brusque and unhelpful. While our bed was comfortable, the bathroom was tiny with multiple fixtures in need of repair. The TV in the room was a nice modern touch, but the remote barely worked and we found only local channels. It's a historic inn built over three hundred years ago, so uneven and creaky floors are to be expected, but the constant noise through the night made it hard for me to sleep. If you want charm more than comfort, this may be the place for you. By contrast, breakfast was excellent. The service was friendly and efficient, and the food was hot and tasty (and reasonably priced). The morning staff were also friendly and helpful with a special request we had. It was a very positive note on which to end our unexpected stay at this lodging.

Great location for exploring the Lexington and Concord area. Positives: Location in center of town, parking, clean & comfortable room, water bottles, polite & helpful staff, good restaurant (will provide separate review). Negatives: No elevator (we were traveling light, so not an issue for us), small bathroom with pedestal sink (minimal space for toiletries), & biggest issue was a humid feeling in the room and a damp feeling in the bed (despite the AC working).

If I could leave a negative star, I would! What a disappointment! We lived in the Concord area 30 years ago and the Colonial Inn and it's restaurant, was the highlight of many family gatherings. But how has this place changed. Starting with some of the front desk staff, who were only mildly interested in answering our question, then being lied to about breakfast (we asked where breakfast would be served on Monday, were told to check in the morning with the hostess, only to find out on Monday morning that there is no breakfast during the week). The TV in the room would not switch on. The hot water faucet in the what they call a bathroom was only producing drops of water, and the noise level with the road right outside was the killer of any attempt of sleeping. Our hopes that at least the restaurant would bring some consolation, but unfortunately, that dining experience with a steak, ordered rare, delivered well done, was not acceptable. The waitstaff was hopelessly overwhelmed, with only one waitress serving the entire place taking orders, while three others sat in an adjacent meeting room, having a good time. Our attempt to speak with the manager at check out, was also denied, respectively ignored. We are still waiting for the promised return call.

The room was fine, although there were a lot of stairs to go up and down with luggage. Our main disappointment was learning in the morning that breakfast was only served on weekends. As we had chosen a hotel with breakfast so we could get to our event on time, this threw our entire schedule off. Being told it was only a five minute walk to the restaurant was not useful, as we know there's always a wit for a table there in the morning. If you're not serving breakfast, don't put a breakfast menu on your hotel website.
