Tru by Hilton Columbia Downtown

I stayed at the try by Hilton for one night while vacationing in Columbia. Overall my stay was quite nice with only a minor hiccup at the start on check in. Check in I elected for the digital check in with the Hilton app. The day prior to my stay I selected my room, chose my time, and arrived at the hotel an hour after my check in time. To my surprise I was told there was no king beds available (despite my booking and selected room), and asked if I’d take a queen. I asked what the issue was , and apparently they weren’t clean. I chose to wit for a room to be clean for approx 30 min and disappointedly got a room on a much lower floor. The room Room was clean, tidy and smelt nice. No complaints about what the room itself provided. The bed: The bed was comfortable except it had a rock in it that I had to remedy by folding tissue over several times and Puttin under the corner of the bed. Really bad rock Free breakfast: Breakfast was your standard hotel free breakfast. Not great, not bad. Checkout: I checked out using the Hilton app and it was seamless This was their first few days opened so I’m sure these issues will be fixed in the future

The hotel has only been open one month. The staff is courteous. It is very clean in all areas. The breakfast is amazing with a pancake maker, waffle makers, cereal, muffins, eggs, potatoes and breakfast meats. There is a mini fridge but it did not have an in room coffee maker.

Good location. Beautiful new facility (two hotels under one roof is an interesting experience). Front desk staff was quiet with little interaction / conversation - no information about hotel or bill when checking in / out. Breakfast was excellent - food was very good, and the staff was friendly and helpful. Room was very basic (and small) but clean. Declining to clean room (make bed / new towels) each day is disappointing - stating the rationale for this common service limitation is for guest convenience is disingenuous. Parking - another disappointment. Outsourcing "self parking" on your property to a third party is ridiculous (especially an added per day "$5 service charge" which is not disclosed as part of the pricing).

I want to report extremely poor customer service by front desk clerk Chenetta! She refused to charge items to my room after I tried to pay with cash, after being told she did not accept cash. She forced me to make a separate credit card charge. That is extremely poor customer service! Additionally, when told that people who did not have TVs were parked in the dedicated EV slots preventing me from charging my car, I specifically came to this hotel for that service, and Chenetta acted though it was my fault and she could not and would not do anything. These two interactions will cause me to rate this hotel extremely poorly AND this is not the way you should treat Hilton Honors members.
