Property Description
No.4 Bartlehill is a delightful, traditional, stone built semi-detached cottage situated in beautiful rural countryside in the heart of the Scottish Borders.
Overlooking the Cheviot Hills, the cottage sits in a quiet, elevated position and affords stunning views over the surrounding rolling countryside. Set between the lovely Border towns of Kelso and Coldstream, Bartlehill is located along a private road and is the perfect haven to visit with family, friends and/or pets and explore all the borders has to offer.
The cottage, which can sleep up to six guests, has been completely renovated & furnished to a very high standard, and is exceptionally well equipped to ensure our guests have all they need for a comfortable and relaxing stay.
The living area downstairs is open plan but retains its features and cosiness with its the log burning stove (logs supplied), and ample comfortable seating; there is a 39" Smart TV and DVD player and free Wi-Fi; a large DVD library suitable for all ages, and a selection of board games, books and local maps to plan trips and walks.
The kitchen has also been tastefully refurbished with its ample cupboard space and marble worktops and (hopefully) has everything you could possibly need, featuring a large table and chairs from which you can enjoy the beautiful scenery whilst dining, a dishwasher, washing machine and all you would expect in a kitchen.
Also, downstairs is the first bedroom with a small double bed and an ensuite with full facilities.
Upstairs there are two good sized bedrooms which are light, and airy. Both can be made up either with two single beds or a super king size bed in each room. There is a large bathroom, again with full facilities. Central heating throughout.
The garden, set mainly to lawn with shrubs and its lovely plum tree is secure and the perfect spot to relax, if the weather is good enjoy some al fresco dining (barbeque available), and ideal for children and dogs.
There are wonderful walks straight from the door, the closest being along the path cut through the small woodland immediately behind the cottage. We happily accept dogs and there is no additional charge for bringing them. There is off road parking with enough space for several cars, and we have converted the garage into a games rooms with a table football and ping pong - perfect for letting off a bit of steam. There is a tennis court and a full-sized cricket net which are both available upon request.
In nearby Leitholm, is the popular village pub ‘The Plough’ which is cosy, serves good food and allows dogs.
Coldstream on the bank of the River Tweed and the bustling market town of Kelso, both just 10 minutes away have shops to browse, restaurants, cafes and pubs, golf courses, race course and historic houses. From culture and heritage to outdoor pursuits, the local area offers endless opportunities including walking; golf; fishing; cycling; riding ( Saint Foin Stables are just down the road); historic houses and castles such as Floors Castle in Kelso, Alnwick Castle (Harry Potter), Bamburgh Castle on the beach, Lindisfarne with its causeway and historic priory, and Manderston with its silver staircase; the stunning coastline with the pretty harbour at St Abbs (sea fishing trips can be organised), and the lovely beach at Coldingham with its surfing and great facilities, including lifeguards, toilets and cafe, the charming town of Melrose with its great shopping and restaurants, St Boswells with its award winning Bookshop and restaurant, and Yetholm at the foot of the Cheviot Hills offering wonderful scenic walks and a good beer in the Border Hotel afterwards (dogs allowed) as well as locally based quad biking, sailing, canoeing, and clay pigeon shooting etc.

Lovely, peaceful cottage
Overall a lovely location and very well equipped and furnished cottage. Would love to go back. Two or three minor points worth attending to. Written instructions on how to get there seemed ambiguous. (Ended up using Google Maps.) Loose slabs on back steps. Markings on cooker knobs worn off in places making it difficult to set temperatures. Far more positives - too many to list!!

Bartlehill Cottage
Fantastic comfortable property with everything you could wish for including a games room and tennis court and cricket practice net also on site. A superb welcome pack included everything you could wish for, the location was peaceful and far enough away to be rural but only 12 minutes from Kelso and Coldstream. Overall an excellent property and holiday

A lovely holiday in the Sottish Borders
This was our first time staying at Bartlehill & it certainly didn't disappoint. We had such a lovely holiday. The cottage is bright & airy, very comfortable with plush sofas & a beautiful fireplace. The whole cottage along with the views and garden are as good as they look on line. We visited both Holy Island & the coastline down to Almouth. Plus the villages within the Scottish Borders all within easy reach from the cottage. We were extremely lucky with the weather too (mini heatwave) Will definitely return to this little gem.

We had a superb stay at number 4 Bartlehill cottages. The welcome tray was tip-top - the best we've ever had.
The cottage was comfortable (especially the beds) and warm, with excellent views out to the Cheviot.
The games room was a bit too chilly to use much, the legs on the table football were unsteady; plus we missed a measuring jug for custard-making!

Just perfect!
The most amazing property with a truly wonderful host! A home away from home that was relaxing, cozy, wonderfully comfortable and had everything we needed and more. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. We will be back!
