The Fox Goes Free

I did not stay at the hotel I only had a meal. My choice of a curry from the menu of the Fox is Free was absolutely ruined by the deceit of the chef. A note to the chef. Please do not advertise a dish as being a curry when it doesn't have any of the spices that go to make a curry. A curry is NOT a stew sprinkled with Cayenne Pepper, as was served to me. A curry contains spices such as Cumin, Coriander, Turmeric, Garlic, Ginger, Mustard Seed, Fenugreek, and Black Pepper. Other spices are also added, but not Cayenne pepper.

Cosy dinner by an open fire - home-made ice cream was a highlight. Friendly & attentive staff. Comfortable, quiet room with good en suite. Excellent breakfast - the most perfectly poached egg I've had in a long time! Overall, would definitely recommend for a night away.

Really welcoming place with the friendliest team working there - made us feel very welcome. Room was nice and we had a good meal (Sunday menu) with lovely vegetables and oodles of gravy in the evening and a nice breakfast in the morning. Would like to return when weather good and we can enjoy the garden.

We arrived early evening without a reservation. Surely not busy on a Wednesday? The FGF most certainly is! Christain shoehorned us in for a lovely early dinner which explained its popularity. Goodfood. Sensible prices and friendly staff. Such a shameits 80 miles from home.

The Fox Goes Free have accommodated us for Lunch & Dinner over the Glorious Goodwood week for a fair few years now and every time, we have been so pleased with the service provided! From the initial conversating over email to being served the lovely food on the day, the Team are extremely consistent and we never have any complaints! Thank you Team, we look forward to coming again next year :)

Very disappointing lunch. I just had the soup of the day, which was OK. But it was served with the stalest bread I have ever had. No excuse for this. It is advertised as homemade which it may be but certainly wasn’t made in the last few days. Otherwise a nice ambience and good location.

Very comfortable room with everything we needed and all spotlessly clean. Friendly, efficient staff who did everything possible to make our stay a success. Very good restaurant with excellent breakfasts and dinners. My husband and I were very satisfied. No hesitation in recommending.

Wow what a great found - stopped on the way back from a wedding and wowww - what a lovely pub ans the views from the garden are amazing - only had a drink but will definitely return for food - every plate which was brought out looked fantastic - will definitely recommend and will return for dinner

There is no disputing that the garden here is absolutely stunning. We phoned ahead to check if we could eat in the garden. We were told that the pub was fully booked for dinner but they would see what they could do to feed us in the garden. At the start of service people were asking if they could eat in the garden and were rudely told it was fully booked. I just don’t understand why any pub won’t serve food if you are there and seated. It’s a restaurant then? Anyway whatever the policy - please please please tell your staff to stop being so RUDE. We live in Singleton and have been here three times in three years. Each time we’ve been spoken to like we don’t belong. Do you not want local customers? We are yet to eat here as they just don’t want to serve us food. Back to the Partridge we go!
