Hôtel les Roches Blanches Cassis

An absolute scandal. When we arrived at the hotel, there was no parking space available, even though our hosts had paid €15 in advance to have a space. Eventually, a friendly voiturier took our car away and found somewhere to park. We descended the many steps to get down to the « Lou Bar » restaurant, where we enjoyed a fabulous view onto the bay of Cassis and the Cap Canaille. From there it all went downhill. The service was slow and inattentive - it took several attempts just to get an aperitif, let alone place our order. The entrees were small but delicious, but the main courses - BBQ chicken, red tuna (tasteless) and octopus took forever to arrive. We waited at least an hour for our main courses. The chicken consisted of two baby wings and two legs plonked on a plate with zero presentation - absolutely banale - and the chicken was still raw in parts! When we complained about the wait and undercooked meat, the supervisor, to give her her due, offered desserts and took the chicken off the bill. The desserts were commercial cookies, straight out of the supermarket . Furthermore, the prices are outrageous ! €12 for a beer, €92 for a 2024 white wine from Cassis, €8 for an espresso (see bill). A very disappointing visit to a very lovely location. The food offering had absolutely no culinary art, and you pay through the nose for the view.

Hey, thats a first class hotel. Close to the port, you can walk or be taken by the hotel charming car. Room is perfect (towels could be better). Breakfast and the restaurants are incredible. Pool is a dream by the sea and you can dive into the ocean (The extras by the pool are very expensive). Staff is impecable, including concierge.

No need to dwell on what’s already flawless: the unbeatable location, the genuine warmth of the staff (special thanks to Célia, Pauline, Romain and the entire concierge team, and others), and the impeccable cleanliness. Yet, given the hotel’s category, ambition, and price point, I was expecting absolute perfection. Instead, over just two days, I encountered several issues: The washbasin in the WC was completely clogged (is this not checked by housekeeping?). The in-suite telephone handset was out of order — calls could only be made on speakerphone, with several buttons apparently broken. The laundry service didn’t fulfill my order correctly — items requested “folded” came back on hangers, and a billing error charged €45 for a pair of socks instead of €4.50. At the Belles Canailles restaurant, the wine I ordered was unavailable, and service was excessively slow. Some bathroom amenities were not replenished. Each time I reported a problem, the staff handled it graciously and offered compensation — thanks to them — but these issues simply shouldn’t arise, especially not in this quantity. As for the “Belles Canailles” suite itself, the bathroom ventilation was insufficient: the mirrors fogged up completely after a shower. In a hotel of this standing, one expects either an efficient extractor fan or heated, anti-fog mirrors. The suite’s layout also puzzled me: there is no door between the first living/sleeping area and the corridor leading to the WC and bathroom. Adding one would give much better privacy for guests in that room, especially when sharing with the second bedroom. In a two-bedroom suite, full independence between the rooms should be the norm. Finally, the automated pre-arrival messages from the hotel contradicted arrangements we had already made directly, creating some confusion. Nothing catastrophic, of course — but at this level of luxury, it’s a pity not to deliver entirely on the promise of perfection. It felt so close… yet just out of reach
