Carlsbad by the Sea Hotel

I would not stay here again. The staff was friendly and helpful, but the room itself was lacking. Outdated bathroom with a bathtub that had nothing to keep you from skipping to the bathroom tile that just as slippery even with the floor towel. The room was big and clean with a nice bed but the lugging was awful. There were 2 side tanks lamps, 1 floor lamp, and a desk lamp(didn't work). Even with the 3 that worked out was still very dimly lit. The pipes in the wall sounded like they were going to bust when a another room would turn on their water. It was so loud. When I booked this room it said it was a 3 star hotel, more of a 2. Without the staff a 1. There not being an elevator to the second floor was tough. Then there were 2 sounds at night. One sounded like something cheering on wood above me, and the other was something tapping on the wall. There was an extra charge when I checked in that wasn't on the site when I booked it. This could be the hotel or this dues fault, bit sure. My rating didn't really reflect the start because of the categories.

Awesome place to stay, definitely coming back if we are in town.

From the very first day (Wednesday) we got to the hotel, it was humid in the room. After being gone for the day, we came back to the room with a note on the door saying that the AC was out. I went to the front desk to see how long it was going to be out for. The receptionist did not know and suggested I leave the glass door open with the screen door closed. I explained that the screen door didn't have a lock, and I have two small children with me. I was told my option was to stay in an 80° room or leave. So I left and was told I would receive a refund for the night. It's been five days since we left, and I still do not have a refund for the night. I have called multiple times to get a dollar amount I will be refunded and am told they can see the dollar amount, but they can't tell me the amount I am being refunded since I booked through Booking. I was even sent an email that supposedly had the dollar amount on it. I called again and told them the email I received still did not have the dollar amount on it and was told, "Well, I see it here on my end." When I asked what it is, I was told, "Well, I don't know how much it will be." This whole experience has been terrible; I will never be back to this hotel. Very poor customer service.

Avoid staying here. Like others have said, this hotel has a lot of problems. I’d say it’s the worst stay I’ve had at a hotel in my life. AC was broken for our three night stay. 82 degrees in the room. It was awful. All you could hear all day and night was the freeway. You aren’t very close to the water.

Renovated but still looks really dirty and old. AC was broken so i asked for another room and they said, "please wait while we try to fix it" instead of just giving me another room. Plenty of similarly priced hotels within a few blocks. One and done. Definitely never coming back.

- Enjoyed the small patio with table and two chairs outside the room. - Hot tub water is dirty and gross. Jets very lame and temperature just warm (not hot). Overtaken with kids (happens everywhere). - Pool is large and has very deep end. Also gross water. - Room is remodeled but a bit musty smelling. - Only 2 hangers - No luggage rack - No shampoo - Nice shower & new towels - Large flat-screen TV - Ocean is about 15 minute walk, crossing busy streets, dirt paths, then ending up at large cliff overlooking ocean. Access to beach shore is another 10 min walk.
