We stayed here while traveling with 2 other couples, including Ali M (see their review). Adele’s response to Ali M says she was in hospital at the time of our visit, but we met her because she introduced herself to all of us when we arrived. She was also there for the very poorly orchestrated breakfast. She obviously uses an array of excuses including a death in the family (!) to cover her unpreparedness when it suits her. In reading all the other reviews, it seems like it IS possible to have a very nice stay at the Cornerways Guest House, but that was not our experience. My advice to interested guests would be: take your chances. 50/50 it might be OK! Personally, I’ll never stay there again.

Stayed in Room 4 from 15-19 September. The room was clean and comfortable, excellent choices for breakfast. As someone posted in July the firedoor at the top of the stairs was wedged open,In Room 4 which is a single room be aware there is no window opening and the door with toughened glass is an alarmed firedoor.Room not serviced each day but host supplied more tea/milk when requested

Our party of 6 (3 couples) arrived after completing the first part of the Hadrians Wall walk (26km). Three en-suite rooms had been booked several months previously and payment had been made some time in advance of our trip. Our ‘hostess’, Adele, was immediately thrown into disarray because she had ‘not expected us all to arrive all at once!?! As we removed our boots she said that she still required payment for one of the rooms. She was shown the payment note from the bank account from which the payment had been sent. She spent the next twenty minutes trying to find the payment on her computer system whilst keeping us waiting in the hallway. She did not find it but finally agreed that it could be sorted out the following morning and we were given the keys to our rooms. My husband and I were in room 8, although we knew we should have had room 9 as per our booking. This was on the top floor The room was small with a sloping ceiling and had no en-suite, as had been booked but was otherwise adequate. We went back downstairs to speak to Adele about lack of en-suite and she immediately apologised and gave us the keys for room 9, which had an en-suite. Back upstairs and my husband opened the door to room 9 …. to find a couple lying on the bed! Back downstairs to see Adele who seemed unable to explain the mix-up. She gave us back the room 8 key again and assured us that we had ‘exclusive’ use of a bathroom along the corridor. She also asked us ‘please’ not to give her a bad review! We set off again to room 8, feeling that we didn’t actually have a choice. Back upstairs, the room 9 occupants (who had by this time composed themselves) offered to swap rooms with us. We declined saying it was ok because we had exclusive use of the bathroom along the corridor……this was when we discovered that the couple’s adult son in room 10 also had exclusive use of the same bathroom!! We decided that since there was actually no alternative, we would just have to accept this. Next morning we went down for breakfast to be met by Adele telling us that she hadn’t expected all the guests to arrive for breakfast at the same time and that she only had two hands! In the breakfast room, there was a limited choice of cereals, there was no milk other than a carton of oat milk and the tea/coffee which was in thermos jugs was only luke-warm. As we waited for the cooked breakfasts (ordered the previous evening) to arrive, Adele came into the room waving all the breakfast order sheets and asked how she was supposed to know what time people would come down for breakfast when no one had told her. She then threw the sheets on the table in front of one of our party repeating her question. The member of our party who had been ‘presented’ with the sheets proceeded to point out where we had all written the time (8am) that we had requested breakfast! Adele lifted the sheets and left the room. We did not see her again. Eventually, her husband, slowly, began se

We had a fantastic night stay at Cornerways last night. The place is perfect location just a very short walk from the centre. Adele was such a lovely and welcoming host. She is very proud of her B&B and this showed throughout our stay. The place is spotless and we had a great night sleep with comfortable pillows and mattress. The breakfast was a good size with quality ingredients. Thank you for a lovely stay. Rachel and Daniel

An interesting stay, gorgeous house. Unfortunately when we arrived the host said she was normally behind the scenes and two of her staff were not there due to a family emergency. The two days we were there, our breakfast orders had gone missing therefore made breakfast delayed resulting in us rushing to get to an important event. Unfortunately again the second morning, the host said she had had a catastrophic night with a customer dying in the night (?!) not sure why we needed to know that. Due to breakfast being messed around she did try to give us some money, which we did not take. The rooms were a good size, however my TV kept turning itself on during the night and the macerator toilet making a noise every 15mins so did not sleep very well. Otherwise, very central and was given a parking permit to park nearby!

Very clean, quiet, good breakfast (good sausage!), pleasant land lady Adele, centrally situated (free parking permit available), close to dining options, everything you would want in your room, nothing worn or tatty but above all great value.

Gorgeous B&B in Carlisle
Lovely B&B. The building is grand and the rooms are big and airy. Free WiFi, iron and board, huge bathroom, dressing table with cotton wool balls etc Breakfast was lovely, full English, cereal, fruit and yoghurt nothing was too much trouble. If we are ever back in Carlisle we will stay here again 😊

Excellent!
This is a lovely place to stay, and ideally located for onward travel. Host is so friendly, room was basic but comfortable. Unfortunately I couldn't stay for breakfast but it smelt great as I left! Will definitely return. Very good price for breakfast and parking (not on site but close) included.
