Heron's Landing Hotel

Terrible experience at this hotel in July 2025. We booked with friends a long planned trip to Campbell River back in May of 2025. We also called to confirm that we have a 1 bedroom suite with 2 beds and a kitchenette. Instead, on the day of the arrival, we discovered that the hotel staff somehow switched our reservation to a smaller room with only 1 bed. We travelled as 3 unrelated adults in one group and 4 in the other and the purpose of the trip to stay together to keep up with our schedule. The hotel refused to take any responsibility for a screw up with the reservation. We were lucky to find 1 available suitable for us room in a nearby hotel, Ramada ( would always recommend them!) at a higher price. The owner of the Heron’s landing refused to compensate the difference, instead going after their staff to figure out who made the mistake in reservations. The owner did not care about our inconvenience ( we were able to settle in our room at Ramada only at 11 pm, after a day of travel, and had to wait for the owner to speak to him till noon the next day ). A complete indifference towards guests at the Heron’s landing. In fact, said does not care if we write a bad review for them. I would not risk it or recommend to stay there ever again.

Terrible breakfast, limited parking, terrible customer service and management team , owner doesn’t speak English , hotel needs renovation

The reservation was not simply mismatched, but resulted in leaving us without any suitable option late evening on July 20 th. We had a confirmed reservation from May 6 th 2025, for a 1 bedroom suite, with a kitchenette, and 2 queen beds, was changed to a room with 1 king bed, no kitchenette or a large fridge, as you have in your suite rooms. We’ve reserved for 3 adults, not related, it was impossible for us to sleep in that bed, as well, no where to store our food for a week ( the king room bed had one little fridge). When we arrived, unloaded, and came up upstairs with all our luggage, times 3 ( the room was booked for 3 people), we discovered that the room has only 1 king bed, instead of 2 queen beds. Immediately we went downstairs to the reception to let the receptionist know. The receptionist said that our room was switched for some reason sometimes during the week and the hotel is fully booked. After calling for help, the receptionist said there 1 room with 2 double beds left available. It was very inconvenient for us so we had to search for other options. Thus, we called the Ramada hotel near the Harold Landing and luckily they had a room available which worked for us, but for a higher price. That night we had a long drive and were able to settle well past 11 pm, which brought additional inconvenience for our organized trip, as we had plans early morning next day. It was my first time bad experience with the hotel , worst customer service and management team . The owner doesn’t speak English and only was yelling at the manager over the phone. They don’t take responsibility for their own mistakes. Stay away from this Hotel

Some of the latest reviews were a bit dodgy, but, I decided to try it. The hotel is aware of recent bad reviews. The staff were friendly, my room was clean. The bed was super comfy and I had a big balcony overlooking the sea. Discovery passage is literally across the street. I chose this one over the Ramada next door because they didn’t have AC and Herons Landing did. Breakfast wasn’t up to much, but, the coffee was good. If you’re just looking for a clean, nice room with a great view and don’t mind dated furniture this place is ideal. It also has a laundry, just an FYI.

Communication problem on checkin (oceanview is not always what you think) suite was nice however, dirty dishes in dishwasher and garbage not emptied. Esthetically needs attention, peeling paint, crumbling gyproc. The soap dispenser in the bath was empty and in need of repair. A regular weekend (not holiday) Fri. Night traffic was horrendous ALL night. Sat.traffic was quiet. Bed was comfy, clean. Nice suite for the price but needs detailing.
