The Coal Exchange Hotel

"I’m so glad we decided to stay at The Coal Exchange Hotel in Cardiff. I’d been given the very important job of finding a place to stay overnight for my friend’s special birthday. I didn’t really know where to start, so I compared prices of hotels in the area. I was surprised to find that the ‘budget’ hotels Premier Inn and Travelodge were no cheaper than The Coal Exchange for the given dates! I had a look at the photos and reviews and it looked perfect for a special occasion. It was steeped in history with the interior design staying true to the period in which it was built. Originally, as there were five of us, I had booked the sextuplet room. It looked amazing and we were all really excited about staying there. Unfortunately though, due to maintenance work being carried out on that part of the building, we had to change our plans to three double rooms right next to each other. The rooms were beautiful. Floor to ceiling double windows, opulent wallpaper, ornate period furniture and a lovely comfortable centrepiece bed. The bathrooms had gorgeous jacuzzi baths and stone basins. The following morning we had a delicious breakfast in Culley’s Restaurant situated inside the Coal Exchange. The staff here are very friendly and go out of their way to ensure you have the best stay. Can’t wait to go back."

"Our stay at hotel was good. The staff was very good and they did take care of adjustments related to luggage early check in. Breakfast was awesome and they go beyond extra mile to serve vegetarian options for us . Location is 1 2 kms from cardiff central which is good . Would love to stay again"

Holiday Inn Express CARDIFF BAY by IHG

"Receptionist Anshika helpful and apologetic Breakfast boring 😴 When I asked for vegetarian/vegan I was directed to PORK sausages, very off handedly, by Lisa. Which was totally disrespectful,rude and upsetting 😡 The croissants were totally inedible when I went on Sunday morning around 8am There were 3 "broken" croissants left, which nobody touched Until I asked if they were going to top it up! The hash brown were dry and inedible"

Premier Inn Cardiff Bay

"Hotel is ideally located and the rooms are as you would expect from Premier Inn, but avoid the breakfast! Stayed for three nights and went for breakfast on the first morning. Scrambles eggs were like crumbs, obviously cooked in the microwave, and had a dark crust on them where they had been under the heat lamps for so long. Fried eggs and bakeded beans were no better, both suffering from the effects of prolonged exposure to the heat lamps. I am sure it was all fresh at some point. The staff just seemed to ignore the fact that multiple customers looked at what was on offer and walked away. Tried Weathrespoons the next day, only marginally better but at least it was cheaper. Recommend Greggs round the corner or a meal deal from the co-op opposite."
