We had a mixed experience. The room was clean, and the mattress was comfortable. The restaurant had limited hours after Labor Day, but the limited choices were good. The room did have a microwave and a refrigerator. Our particular room did have air conditioning (but it is not available for all rooms), and the heat worked as well. A hair dryer must be requested. The location was optimal for rock hounding and there were lights to guide you back to the hotel at night which was helpful. The gift shop was well stocked but only open if the restaurant was open. As it was after Labor Day, the office was closed for check in, so a key was left in the room. You then leave the key for check out. Warning signs are everywhere regarding policies, but no one is there to talk to if you have a question. If you have a problem, you are to email. There is no emergency number. We had a serious plumbing issue at 11:15 pm. We sent an email and even tried the phone number. We seriously discussed leaving given the issues and inability to get in touch with anyone. The return email came at 6 am and then we could call. Upon request, we were given an alternate bathroom to use. We departed as quickly as possible. There was a verbal apology, but no monetary credit. It may be better during "peak season" but know the pros and cons before selecting.

I wondered how this place could have good reviews when its a literal dump until I wrote a review and first it got deleted . I re wrote the review and it got changed. Now it says I loved my stay and the staff is friendly.. none of that is true...this place is a scam, its a dump, and they will steal your money..they are doctoring reviews...look me up on tik tok to see videos of what it really looks like ...Andrea Herwig

This place is not all what it is advertised to be. The website shows its a nice place "on the beach" and shows it has good reviews. Thats how I was fooled. After my stay and talking with other guests and locals around town I got the full story. Apparently it used to be owned by someone else and maybe someone passed away. It was held up in court for a while and TADA. This place is HORRIBLE. I love Grand Marais and even after pulling in a seeing how run down and crappy it was I still gave it a chance. We just went down to woodland park campground. When we got there there was no welcome, just your doors unlocked and the keys are inside. The resturaunt was closed and the place was like a ghost town. After we went exploring in town we came back to the room to take a shower and the knob fell off, The bad was literally like one of those box mattresses. Maybe 10" thick and felt like a camping Kot. Then try to watch some TV and there's no internet. No Cable. NOTHING. I tried to go ask about the internet and again the office was closed with a note saying to go to their restaurant. Where the only staff i ever see, the one lady told me she only works there, and I would have to email. But i couldn't email there was no service no Wi-Fi. I went to town emailed then no response. finally later i get an email saying is it working now. I spoke with other frustrated guests outside who said there hasn't been any Wi-Fi since they got there the day before. The hallway smelled like moldy water and the door did not go all the way to the bottom so there was a gap with light shining in all night and you could hear people talking clear as day. I woke up really early because I couldn't sleep and still no Wi-Fi. Finally at 6 I left. I was supposed to stay 3 night but it was so bad. I tried calling, going to the office , email..i couldn't reach anyone until like 5 the next day when they finally answered their phone and the guy told me he was the "owner". I told him i would pay for the day we stayed, but i wanted a refund for the other two days. He got real aggressive with me and hung up the phone, then refused to answer again. Then he ran my credit card for $420 and sent an email saying my stay was cancelled. He charged my over $200 a day and probably rented the room to someone else. This place is a SCAM. its literally a crack hotel in a parking lot kind of close to the beach. I wouldn't say on the beach at all.

Run..Run far away from this place. This is not at all what its advertised to be. They make you believe this is a "resort" on a private beach with a good resturaunt. They are selling g you a dream. It looks like a crack motel about a half away from the beach that you can drive closer to and park. The restutaunt sucks, if you can ever eat there because its ALWAYS closed and im pretty sure there's only one lady who works there. There's no wifi, and No tv service. The room does have a tiny 32 inch TV but no channels. There is a gap under the door and light shines in all night. You can see and hear eveything going on in the musty wet smelling hallway.I booked three nights before knowing how scrappy this place was. When I tried to cancel I couldn't get a hold of anyone. I finially spoke with a guy who said he was the owner who refused to give me my money back from the two days I didnt stay. He just went on and on about how great of a place it is..clearly that man is delusional..he cancelled my room then charged my card. Then he hung up on me and refused to answer again. Dont waste your money or time. Its just goi g to ruin your day. I love Grand Marais, but if you go just stick to the campground

Came to rock hound with a buddy and we had a good experience here. Very large room with two full not queen beds. Furniture was new and beds comfortable. Small fridge and microwave too. No breakfast but options were close by. This is a 2 star level motel but they do a nice job here. Great location and it was quiet. I’d return if in the area again.

Our adventure to Fletchy's Pictured Rocks Resort in Michigan's Upper Peninsula was wonderful. We received personalized, 5-star attention and service. The rooms were large, clean, and comfortable. We enjoyed the spacious great room with the fireplace, comfortable couches and chairs, big-screen TV, Games, puzzles, free coffee, and popcorn. There is an on-site delicious restaurant and gift shop. To be right on Lake Superior was amazing.
