The most welcoming atmosphere. We had a busy few days of gigging and were feeling wiped out. Matthew in the bar could not have been more friendly or accommodating. Gave a really personal touch. Food was 10/10

Okay but needs a refresh in the rooms I have been staying at the Waterloo cross almost every year for the last 22 years. In the beginning it was family run, basic but good value and with good food. Marstons took it over and refurbished which was great and provided a much needed enhancement in the rooms. My recent stay this year the rooms are tired. Only one bedside table where there would be two, the floor in the bathroom all lifting up and overall could be cleaner. Also little things have been taken away such as the biscuits that used to be with the tea and coffee facilities in the room and small bottles of water. The Breakfast although fine, the menus can be a little confusing with what is included, even for the staff as when I went to pay I was told Tea and Coffee was extra, until I pointed out on the menu that it was included. Overall our stay met our needs for two nights, but for the cost I think there are better places to stay.

Conveniently situated only 5 minutes drive from my first appointment of the following day, I got checked in with a warm reception from the staff. I have stayed there twice before so had an idea of what to expect. I had one of the external ground floor rooms which made it easier to go back and forth to the car park. Having dines there previously, I did so again and was well looked after with some sumptious food provided for a very reasonable cost. The room itself was spacious, clean and provided everything I needed. The Wi-Fi was a little spotty which was the only drawback. The surrounding area allowed for an hour long walk with lovely scenery. The shower was very powerful and the bed comfy for a good night's sleep. Breakfast in the morning was amazing with some locally sourced ingredients to get the day started off right. Can't wait to be back here again.

We were able to park overnight in our motorhome (Britstops) and received a warm welcome from the lady behind the bar. The pub was busy and the road outside was hellish due to the Wellington junction being closed. We were given a quiet table in the corner as we were accompanied by our Border Collie. After a couple of drinks outside (observed enviously by the queuing motorists) we enjoyed a tasty meal served by the friendly and efficient staff. I was able to swop chips with a salad with no problem and we really enjoyed our evening.

Shower cubicle was dirty and had dirt and dust marks all the way round. Not very much shower gel, family of 3 and only given x1 hand towel and x1 bath towel, 2 cups and 2 glasses. The noise from the room above was horrendous, the foot steps vibrated right through.
