Waterloo Cross, Devon by Marston's Inns

We were able to park overnight in our motorhome (Britstops) and received a warm welcome from the lady behind the bar. The pub was busy and the road outside was hellish due to the Wellington junction being closed. We were given a quiet table in the corner as we were accompanied by our Border Collie. After a couple of drinks outside (observed enviously by the queuing motorists) we enjoyed a tasty meal served by the friendly and efficient staff. I was able to swop chips with a salad with no problem and we really enjoyed our evening.

Luke served us this evening. Was an amazing evening and excellent food and service!! Would highly recommend to anyone in the area or as a stop off on your travels! All staff were accommodating and helpful. Can’t fault!! Will be here again!! Thank you

Great little find Easy check in online before hand so went to the bar and got the key immediately and actually got shown to the room - a rare thing nowadays. We had a room on the outside which was great as was going to be rather late back in the evening. Room spacious, comfy bed and had all the amenities. Will go back if in the area

On arrival it took ages to just get seated our booked table as there is only one girl at the till, serving a queue of drinks orders. Noone else around. Back to the till to order. Two of five meal orders showed 'red' on the screen (fish, beef) meaning she had to twice run off to the kitchen to ask if it was available - rather than kitchen telling the bar if something isn't. Each time she has to re-login to her computer terminal, and seems overwhelmed. Meanwhile an impatient queue builds because there aren't enough staff to serve. Small syrup fountain Pepsi is over £3 but filled with an inch left at the top of the glass. Food took 45 minutes to appear. Some building work going on in a room next to the restaurant, so loud hammering could be heard through the wall. A curry and strongbow was ordered as part of the weds deal (£12.95 incl drink), but the bill discounted the £12.95 by 30% (£3.88, from a voucher) then added the drink at £5.20 extra (also meaning the daily deal, and highly limited drink choice was actually pointless). The curry was exactly like Wetherspoons except with a floppy cold naan bread. A regrettable experience, they just don't have a grip here at all.
