Holiday Inn Express & Suites Bryan - College Station

Cleanliness: Multiple users mention the hotel is very clean, with everything spotless. (based on 1 review)

I had two rooms. We arrived late at night on a very busy weekend where it was apparently sold out. I put my daughters in a room and my wife and I in the other. My daughters were in 302 at the end of the hall so they could get a good nights sleep as they had to compete the next morning. Well my daughters (who are both asthmatic start complaining about how bad the room smells of mildew. It was also quite hot in the room in spite of the A/c being on. We call the front desk and ask for a different room for them. They say they will call us back. They never did. So we had the girls come stay in our room. The next morning I go look at their room and I see the black mildew on their A/c, the toilet is shattered and appears to have been put back together with caulking. Then as I am standing in the room the vent above me is blowing hot air. I am thinking since there are no vents to remove humidity in either of the rooms that is the way they try to deal with it. I go back to my room to shower and when I get in the shower the water is black because of the dirt my feet have picked up just walking bare foot in the room and hall. I then go to grab some soap from the dispenser and the bottle is shattered. Upon check out I explain the situation with the one room and am told they can’t do anything but there will be no problem with the manager refunding the one room when they get in. Well nothing happens. On Monday I call and talk to someone who then offers me 10k points. I say, no I want the room credited. They then say that they can’t do that so they will need to talk to property mgmt (when this was supposed to be the property manager) in the end the best I could get them to do was give me half off of one room and 5k points. Neither of which have shown up yet. I’ve been a loyal IHG user for a decade or two. And this is the second time within a year I’ve gotten burned by being brand loyal to Holiday Inn and having the property either be in poor condition or poorly maintained. This is the last time I will choose an IHG property if there are other options.

I booked the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Bryan-College Station partly because of the beautiful pool shown on their website. Unfortunately, that pool is not part of the hotel at all—it belongs to a private facility called THE COVE, which requires membership or local residency to access. Guests have no access to it whatsoever. This is very misleading and feels like false advertising. On a separate note, the bathtub in my room was very slippery—I almost fell, which is a safety concern. On the positive side, the hotel itself was clean, and the front desk staff were friendly and nice (though some were not as approachable as others). Parking was convenient, and the pool area that the hotel does have is small, but it worked fine for us since only my son and I were using it. The breakfast was also very good. I would recommend this hotel for its cleanliness, breakfast, and convenience, but I can’t say for sure if I would return, mainly because of the misleading pool photo and the safety concern with the slippery tub.
