Property Description
Seabird Cottage is a charming, traditional Cottage situated in the delightful fishing port of Brixham, It is a great 'bolthole' escape to get away from it all. An authentic fisherman's cottage, it has been modernised to ensure comfort and convenience whilst retaining many traditional features including exposed beams believed to be reclaimed ships timbers and masts. Enter from the street into a cosy sitting room, with multi-fuel wood burner (in additional to full central heating) through to a fully fitted kitchen made bright and airy by roof windows above. For those who like to cook you will find what you need to try out some new recipes having sourced the ingredients from the deli, butchers and grocers as well as well stocked supermarkets just across the road. For those who don't want to cook, there are many great restaurants just as close and a very nice pub in our street! The bathroom, also on this level, consists of large shower, wash hand basin and toilet. Access to the furnished raised terrace garden outside, is through the rear door and up some steps. In summer, the sun is there most of the day so it is ideal to start with a coffee or to enjoy a glass of wine after a day of exploring South Devon. There are two good sized bedrooms accessed by the winding traditional 'Brixham' staircase, a double bed to the front and two singles in the rear bedroom overlooking the terrace garden. Seabird Cottage is the perfect place to base your holiday to enjoy the delights of South Devon, with seaside walks, sailing, fishing and boat trips, or travel by steam train along the beautiful South Devon coast. Apart from deepest winter the very reasonably priced ferry service goes to the heart of Torquay, Paignton, Totnes and Dartmouth so no traffic or car parking hassle even in the height of summer ! If you prefer, you can relax in the town's pubs (one of the best is in our street but has never disturbed us) There are many great restaurants especially if you like fish. You can have a coffee or a cream tea and browse round the shops. Explore the winding streets and numerous 'steps' linking the streets and areas of the old fishing village.. The walks along the coast both towards Berry Head and towards Broad sands along the South Devon Coastal Path (Blackbeard's Trail) are not to be missed. Literally 3 minutes away is the harbour and main high street. Our favourite pastime is to walk round the harbourside towards Berry Head to Breakwater Beach for breakfast, lunch or afternoon tea and watch the sun rise or set all year round. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Price quoted is to rent the cottage with a party of up to 4 persons. NB Bank Holidays are charged at the appropriate weekend rate NB This is a self catering property and whilst you are welcome to cook in our lovely kitchen, however our insurers will not allow us to the use of air fryers or slow cookers. "There is no Washing Machine provided, (but who wants to wash clothes whilst on holiday !)'However, there are laundrettes in the town for those emergencies! Fuel for the wood burner is to be purchased by the guest. As household waste disposable is a challenge in Brixham if you are not there on a friday when it is collected. Please dispose of your waste on a daily basis or take with you on departure. CHILDREN Children are welcome but due to the 'Brixham Stairs' and the steps to the garden it is suitable for older children only. PET POLICY Sorry no pets allowed. Lovely little cottage, so close to the harbour. Free parking in the vicinity. Cottage had a musty smell, maybe not been used much lately. Customers in the pub down the road are very noisy but that can't be helped. Thank you letting us stay

Seabird Cottage, Brixham The cottage was beautiful, very tastefully styled and everything was spotless, a much appreciated bottle of milk and tea / coffee. The walk to the harbour and lovely shops and restaurants was very short, a few steps to get back to Higher Street but once you knew about them, it was fine.We did get a bit of a surprise with the stairs leading to the bedrooms, we didn’t expect so many and small steps and no landing to step into the bedrooms, but again something that you adapted to, it was the original fisherman’s cottage which we worked out.Our main problem was outside the cottage, we had travelled from Australia and on a 7 week trip so we had lots of luggage and therefore had to hire a car big enough for it, (an MG SUV). We entered Higher Street but didn’t know what number the cottage was so we kept going past to the narrow opening a little way past the cottage, this caused a small scape on the side mirror, We had to turn around and work out the number of the cottage. After we had unloaded we were going to follow the map supplied for parking but a neighbour told us that they did mit think the car would pass through a particular spot so we had to go and find somewhere to park, we found a spot on the harbour near the University which was safe and secure for 4 days and just a short walk back.We loved our holiday in Brixham and would go to Seabird cottage again, the only thing I would suggest for visitors is to advise the street number and not just the cottage name.
