We’ve stayed at the Westmorland twice before the stay in January and without issue. However, we won’t be coming back. 1st night we arrived after travelling from work, the sofa bed wasn’t set up for our 7 year old. We were given bedding to make it ourselves which was fine. Until we opened the bedding and what can only be described as sick was over the bedding. We notified the person behind the bar who was the only one working and we were told that they couldn’t do anything about it. Three of us then had to share a bed which was terrible. The bathroom drain was leaking behind the toilet omitting a foul smell throughout the room. The table lights weren’t working so it was either, sit completely in the dark or with a full beam on. The tv didn’t work. Not ideal when you put your kid to bed and then you’re simply sat in the dark. The bedding was sorted the next day and We got a refund for the first night. The staff were very apologetic and polite. The room still smelt and nothing else could be done about the drain, tv and lights. However on the second night, the noise from the room above was horrendous. The young men upstairs informed us that they were play fighting at 2am. It continued throughout the night. All in all, an unpleasant stay.

Unfortunately stayed here and left after first night of a three night break stayed in room 8 , emailed property twice with issues and still no reply. I was not happy with: The bed which seemed extremely small, rickety and uncomfortable; the radiator on all night and unable to switch off; black painted walls in the room / bathroom; the bathroom sink not draining out as it should; black mould up the bathroom tiles; broken hangers discarded in the bottom of wardrobe! Room could do with a deep clean.

Great location, friendly barman. Collected my room key and walking up the scruffy stair carpet already knew I wouldn't be staying. Stair carpet set the tone for the room. Grubby, dirty and smelly. I suppose you get what you pay for. Took the two bottles of water, walked back down the stairs, left the key in the box and wiped me feet once I got outside.

Stayed in room 1, pretty small and overlooking the front of the pub and main road, but wasn’t an issue despite it being a Saturday night. In a great location with a car park a 2 minute walk away. Pub was heaving on arrival but check in was swift. Room is basic but comfy double bed. Tiny shower room but suited our needs entirely. Clean towels provided. Tea/coffee facilities always well received. No hairdryer, which I was a bit gutted about as I like to wash my hair daily and would rather not have to pack one but it’s only my personal preference. Fan provided which we were grateful for! Decent storage space in the wardrobe for coats, bags etc… It suited our needs for a night, not much room if you’re out walking and have wet clothes but it was fine for a night

Good location to explore Bowness. Easy check in and didn’t really see anyone after that. Rooms need a bit of TLC in my opinion but a good stay for what we paid.

We had high hopes for this stay after the previous good reviews. We arrived on the Friday night and were hoping for a good nights sleep as we were up at 4.30am the next day to go walking. The rooms are directly above the pub and on the Friday the pub stayed open until 2am with very loud music and even louder patrons. The website stated it closed at 11pm and the sign on the door 12am. However at 1.15am we couldn’t take the noise any more, I went down to the bar and asked if the bar was closing soon. The barman was apologetic and said they would keep the noise down. Unfortunately nothing changed and the party finally stopped just after 2 and the party goers left about 2.20am. We spoke to management the next day who were very sorry and said the bar should have closed at 12 and it accidentally stayed open. Initially we were offered a bottle of wine, after we explained our situation they eventually refunded the night. The next night we had no issues, however the final evening the room next to us decided to have a gathering and as the doors and walls were very thin we were able to hear everything being said / laughed at. Luckily this ended at 12am so we did get some sleep. The hotel do also allow dogs so every time someone went in/ out of their room, regardless of the time of day, we heard a few dogs barking at the noise, however, in isolation this would not have been an issue. The rooms were fine, slightly dated but very clean. If it wasn’t for the noise issues we would return.
