This was a very well done themed intimate hotel. It’s important to know the idea is to give life to old buildings for a new purpose. If you don’t know that it can be a bit off putting. Everything is themed down to the keys and hotel literature. LOVED the pocket guide to Basecamp and Boulder. Nice lobby with a great bar also offerings snacks, coffee and inexpensive s’mores kits. Nighttime they had several firepits lit and many guests were playing games in the activity room which also had a climbing wall and ping pong table. Jon at the front desk was really warm and welcoming - and had perfect choices for meals. My only suggestion would be to replace the carpet. I can only speak to the building I was in which was the end one with rocks on the side.. It’s awful and stained, but once that change is made it will be virtually perfect. My husband and teenage daughters all loved it.

Nice option for a comfy motel in Boulder. A unique space with a fun atmosphere with activities, bar/coffee, and a hot tub for guests. There is a usable gathering space and fire pits. It is a motel, and so it can be noisy if guests are enjoying themselves in the evening or with cars (and alarms) at night outside your room. Staff was warm and helpful.

Beds are worn out (divots), pillows flat, skylight broken and light enters room at first light, toilet barely works, A/C loud, bathroom fan very loud, etc.. Could go on. Rooms are rough and in need of basic repairs and upgrades but still charging “Boulder” premium. Common area was fun and night attendant was friendly.

Funky, nice little hotel/affordable/great value...nice staff, and loved the open air room near the office, accessibility to town. Perfect place to spend the night on our way to the Rocky Mt. National Park, Estes Park, etc.

This place has undergone a few changes since I stayed here years ago, but few or none are actual improvements for guests. They appear as if they were done by someone who has never stayed in a motel. Motel 6 rooms have microwave ovens. My BaseCamp room did not. Bargain hotels everywhere have coffee in the room. My BaseCamp did not. There was an electric kettle, with a broken lid and a cord that dangled behind the desk, but was not connected to power. In fact the cord was several feet short of being in reach any outlets, and there was no place it could be put to reach one. But even had the kettle been easy to use, there were no “hot” cups nor coffee packets. Really? Free coffee was offered in the bar by the lobby, but it did not open until 8 a.m. Rooms that cost above $125 or so have fridges. My BaseCamp room did not. Being near the door the single overhead light left most of the room dim. The bedside reading light was fine, but the switch was located out of reach for someone lying in bed. The shower door to the combination shower and tub did not fit properly so when one showers, the bathroom floor gets soaked, including the bathmat. Liquid soap, shampoo, and conditioner are provided, but are bolted to the wall at the far end from the shower, and are chest high, so to use them when taking a bath one would have to stand up to reach them. I have no idea how many bath takers stay in motels these days, nor how many climbers stay at BaseCamp, but back in my mountain days after a long time on the trail, a hot bath was a tonic for aches, pains, and attitude. If I had to clamber upright every time I needed soap or shampoo, I’ve had been inclined to pry the locked-down soap holder off the wall with my ice axe.

We had a great experience here — the bartender Melina was so friendly and amazingly helpful, the quality of the free coffee in the lobby was top-notch, plus the ping pong table and very large, clean and well-kept hot-tub kept everyone happy. There is are two pelotons that operate smoothly — one with peloton pedals with clipons that I used and was very smooth and the other with a toe cage. Comfortable beds!!!

For budget accommodations I would rate this very high. But ..you need to know what to expect. This is a motel and not a hotel. It reminds me of the places I stayed on vacation with my family in the 70s. It's basically a step up from camping and gives the vibe or a nice campground with shared hangout space. That said there were definitely some pros: - very clean - friendly staff - free coffee (although they don't start serving until 8am which is hard if you are an early riser or coming in from a different time zone) - super close to Pearl St., CU and lots of restaurants etc. Most are waking distance - small bar with good beer. Now for the cons: - motel -- most of the rooms open up onto the parking lot - small rooms and even smaller bathrooms - no mini fridge -- they provide nice retro coolers instead with is cute but then you have to keep them filled up with ice (there is a free ice machine...just a hassle)
