River’s Bend was one of our favorite western VA cabin stays to date. Its location is unique - remote enough for dark skies and the sounds of wildlife, with the thrill of the train when it makes its way through the tunnel under the property. The cabin is so cozy, the beds firm and very comfortable. I slept so well every night. We loved the screened in porch, and the river lookout off the tiered back deck. The host assured our comfort with plenty of blankets, pillows and quilts. Everything was clean and easy to find/use. We hiked the mowed trails and explored the remnants of the last James River Lock on the property. So cool!

The log cabin was rustic, but very relaxing, and had everything normally needed. The host was probably the most accommodating I have experienced in many stays. Very limited food in proximity to the cabin. Bring what you need.

Amazing would be an understatement, Beth goes above and beyond for her guests. The cabin is very secluded and right on the river. She gives you access to the property that most wouldn't. Probably one of my best experiences with an owner and I'm not exaggerating. I highly recommend this get away to anyone 100 times over. The cabin itself is very nice and comfortable. Peaceful and laid back just like described. Alot of wildlife and exquisite scenery from the front porch. Everything you need is there. Loved the game room upstairs as well. Look forward to being back soon!

Had a great time at cabin. Pictures do not do it justice. Would recommend to anyone. My wife and I especially enjoyed the kayaks and spending time on the river. Communication with host was exceptional.

Beth thought of everything. We had such a nice time sharing meals around the table and relaxing on the porch. The boys loved the river beach and the kayaks. Caught some catfish. Everything inside was clean and confortable!

Quiet comfy cabin Cabin has comfortable seating in living area, well-equipped kitchen and bathrooms. We enjoyed reading the many books available, playing checkers, ping pong and pool. Owner is great- very responsive and helpful. Access to the river is not what we expected. To reach the stone beach, we walked down a grassy field, through a path in the woods, down a steep muddy slope holding onto a rope railing, then through a dry marsh area. To put the kayaks in the water, there’s a second route to the river along a grass path about 300 yards. To get into the kayak one must sink into 8-10” of thick mud. There’s no other place to step in order to get into the kayak. Once on the river, the water is lovely, plenty of fish to catch, and there’s no one else around so it’s peaceful.

Great spacious cabin! It was nice to sit on the screened in porch and the kayaks were a lot of fun. Beth was very accommodating as well!

River’s Bend cottage is a delightful place to stay whether to rock on the porch, grill dinner outside, or hike or raft along the Upper James River. Our host was easily available to reach and was responsive to our questions and requests.

Running out of Superlatives This is our 4th stay at River’s Bend. It’s so wonderful that it has become an irresistible habit. We love the cabin, the location, the river and the host! Beth is truly a Premier Host!! We’ve already booked for next year.
