Hotel at Conference Aston
"Where do I begin. The hotel itself is in a nice part of town surrounded by the Aston Uni. Hotel/Conference center shares its space with the Uni Law building, but in itself it’s actually quiet. The issues begin with the room itself. It’s a spacious, but there is no air conditioning… which is not great if you’re baking in this freak heatwave. The windows don’t open too far, and can’t be opened more than 2 inches “due to health and safety”. The cleanliness of the room was practically nonexistent, down to housekeeping flipping the sheets to hide a stain, shower gel marks on the shower from the previous guest wasn’t cleaned, a chocolate stain on a towel in the bathroom and lastly a crusty tissue covered with something I’d rather not touch, that was next to the spare pillows on the storage unit and the fact that our used spoons/cups in the room weren’t replaced with clean ones when housekeeping reset our room while we were out for the day. Dust in the room was also a serious problem, but again this could be due to the lack of good ventilation. These are a few issues which I wouldn’t consider to be common practice, since this is usually taken care of during daily housekeeping when staying more than one night, so I was disappointed with the lack of care taken. The front desk staff were friendly enough though."

"I am writing to express my deep dissatisfaction with the service during my recent stay at your hotel. This booking was meant to be a special occasion, as it was both my anniversary and my wife’s birthday. Prior to arrival, I was assured that a good room and thoughtful service would be provided to make the occasion memorable. Unfortunately, none of this was delivered. From the moment we arrived, the level of hospitality was extremely disappointing. There was no effort made to acknowledge or accommodate the special occasion. The room itself was poorly prepared, with insufficient water provided. I had also made a reservation for dinner in advance, yet nothing was pre-arranged. We were left waiting a long time before anyone even came to take our order, which added to the frustration. The room service experience was equally poor. The staff member on the phone was rude, and the food took over an hour to arrive. Even a simple request for water took nearly three hours, which is completely unacceptable. Overall, what was meant to be a meaningful and celebratory stay turned into a very disappointing experience due to the lack of basic service standards and hospitality. I hope you take this feedback seriously and make the necessary improvements so that other guests do not face similar issues."

"A 4-star hotel that's only worth 2 stars or below. I wanted to write this honest feedback not hoping the hotel will improve, as we won't visit again, but as a reference for those looking for a hotel in the Birmingham area. It's quite rare that I give such a low rating in my feedback. We originally booked for 1 night but decided to stay 2 nights to extend our trip in Birmingham. We tried to update our booking on trip.com; however, we could only make another booking (same hotel, same type of room, under the same customer name). We emailed the hotel to reconfirm our booking and ask if we could stay in the same room. After some back-and-forth, they said it wouldn't be a problem. When we arrived for check-in, the staff failed to recognize our upfront request even though I told them we were staying for 2 nights. The staff didn't listen at all nor pay any attention. We noticed the hotel card had our departure date as the next day, so I went to reception to verify that we didn't need to move rooms but could stay in the same room for both nights. Overall, the reception staff was neither energetic nor proactive. They didn't share any information with us (swimming pool, breakfast area, etc.) – we had to ask for these details. It felt like a self-service hotel, though the staff in the breakfast area was welcoming, which is indeed standard. We enjoyed the swimming pool, sauna, and steam room. These facilities and the changing room were fine; however, the staff at the club was not helpful at all. Again, I had to ask for a towel in order to get one. The room was dated as shown in my photos, required renovation. Insulation was poor too we could hear noises along the corridor. We didn’t have a good sleep for the first night however fine for the second night. A positive note: Plenty of parking space."
