The Townsend Hotel

It’s totally overrated. Rooms are old and old style. It’s absolutely overpriced for what it is. Not even breakfast is included. The shower gel and shampoo is still in tiny, cheap bottles instead of big environmentally-friendly bottles with pumps, which is standard now in environmentally conscious high end hotels. This hotel has stopped evolving decades ago. Also single use cups only for tea / coffee at the coffee station in the lobby.

The service was great, the hotel staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious. I love the hotel! The only suggestion I have for the hotel is to add recycling bins in the rooms or perhaps on each floor in the main corridor. This would allow customers the option to help sort our garbage and trash (plastic, paper, cardboard), especially since the rooms do provide bottled water.

When we lived 15 years in Birmingham/Bloomfield, the Townsend was the Holy Grail of hospitality in Detroit ... and maybe Michigan. The centerpiece of a place to go for business breakfast, dinners, meetings and seminars, and certainly a place to book for all your company visitors at the time. Today, it is more a shell of that legend ... well beside that it feels that the key employees still feel they are the center of hospitality. Unfortunately, they are not anymore. From a place that needs in general a notable upgrade overall, a dirty bathroom (see pictures), the used dishes in front of our door from the prior guest for our entire stay, a fridge that obviously does not work/cool at all, the lack of refill of essentials like water bottles or shower gel, ... It is just a long list of topics showing the neglect of detail by staff and management. And then when your Luxury King room looks only at a brick wall 4 feet away (without warning during check-in) and the reaction of the front desk manager to my complaint that I was not aware that I booked a Luxury room with absolutely no view and hardly any daylight ... by saying that "... you should then probably have put in a request for a room with view when you booked your stay" left me speechless (which does not happen often ...). It is sad to see that an icon of this beautiful town is in decline.

Best hotel I have ever stayed the staff were exceptional. The decor and beauty of the hotel was amazing. We were there for the park west art auction and we were pampered from start to finish

It is rare that I gush about a hotel, but the Townsend is a fantastic place! Exceptional front desk staff, incredible room and in a perfect location. I cannot wait to find a reason to return, or to make one!

Superb. We stayed there in October for a family wedding in the area. Service was outstanding in every way. Location is central with plenty of good restaurants within walking distance. Highly recommend.
